Question for those who completed 6 month supervised diet...
None! I went up and down a lb or 2 for the whole 6 months and at the end I was the same....my surgery center told me not worry about gaining or losing, so I just kind of maintained...I did worry though that if I lost weight I would be denied...but I think it would have to be a significant amount for them to deny surgery...

New Here! Hoping to get the lap band! Process?
That's great news!! It won't be too long before you will be chasing your kids at the playground

Insurance wording?
Is there anywhere you can see it in writing? I can go online and see exactly what is covered by my insurance...it seems that would be a lot more reliable than talking to someone, seeing as 2 out of 3 people said it was covered 100%. Don't lose hope! It's still possible this will work out for you

New Here! Hoping to get the lap band! Process?
First I made sure wls was covered by my insurance then after I attended the seminar I was contacted by the weightloss surgery center that put on the seminar and they told me exactly what my insurance required me to do, they kept in contact with me throughout my 6 month diet and made sure I got my testing done when it was time....7 months later I was banded! Best of luck to you

Checking in one day post op
Yes! I had pain when breathing in deep....it will get better I promise...I think for me, around day 4 or 5 post op when the fullness went away the painful breathing did too. Just please try to keep hydrated...small sips as often as you can. The liquid Lortab makes me nauseous so I was given the dissolving anti nausea meds...if you have them, they will help with the nausea....You're swollen and full of gas and it just feels uncomfortable I know. Walk as much as you can and within a week you will feel like a different person. If you have any concerns your doctors office is only a phone call away. Congrats on your banding and Best Wishes!

First appointment tomorrow
Best of luck...wishing you well!

A disturbing article
It doesn't phase me in the slightest, it's an old study...as far as the US having better doctors and hospitals than Europe, not true at all and quite ridiculous to make such a blanket statement..Being from the UK and living now in the US, I have had surgeries and seen numerous doctors in both countries and neither one is "better" than the other...

shoulder pain
I got the shoulder pain big time..and like lynner99, the gas x did nothing for me, but my heating pad was a godsend..and the pain does eventually go away....Best Wishes for your upcoming surgery!

No Pre-op Diet... Liver too big?
I didn't have to do a pre op diet either...I did put myself on one for 3 days before surgery...no problems here!

December Bandwagon Supporters
I didn't do a pre op diet but 23 lbs lost since surgery day...calories still hovering around 700 a day and not really any hunger to speak of. I see my doc next Wednesday and we will discuss fills then.. Hope all December guys and gals (and everyone else too) are doing great

The 6 Month diet
I had to do 6 a month diet...my weight stayed the same. I got a surgery date 3 weeks before my approval and I was approved only 3 days before my surgery!

I'm a chef!!

Going to talk to the doctor about the band...
As soon as he goes active and you are updated in Deers I would talk to Tricare (preferably in person if possible)....I didn't think of it before but, surgery approvals have a time window and they usually expire 6 months from approval....only Tricare would know if you have to go through the process of meeting the requirements again...I'm so sorry...I hope it all works out for you..

My Journey
omg...How horrible...I'm so glad you are all healed!! Best wishes and congratulations on your upcoming surgery!

Biggest loser
But you aren't a failure at all....I needed the band to reach and maintain a health weight, past experience tells me this. It's most definitely not the easy way out and I can say that at only 3 weeks post op. The band is a tool that if used correctly can let you live a longer, healthier life and that's a really good thing. If it was easy to lose weight and not gain it back we all wouldn't be here on this site. You may well be able to lose all the weight by yourself but can you keep it off, look at your past history, I myself have lost and gained too many lbs to count....so I look at it like I'm not failing by getting a band, I'm just taking an opportunity to make my life better, I will still have to work at it, I will still have to exercise....the band does it's part but you have to do your part too, that's not failing in my book!....Best Wishes and good luck at your appointment!

Did your doctor do this also?
My doctor didn't require any pre op diet at all...I did however put myself on one for 3 days. No need to feel guilty at all! Congrats on your up coming surgery and Best Wishes!

Portsmouth naval hospital
I googled it! I think it's awesome that they do bariatric surgery at the Military hospital! I have Tricare too..and had my surgery off base as there was no on base program and I had no problems with Tricare. From what I read about Portsmouth's program, it looks like they make it easy to get the surgery, that's awesome! Good luck for your upcoming appointment

Vegas??
I have hiked up Sunrise Mountain..was in 2009 when I was not so heavy!! I see we had the same surgeon...love Dr Soong!

Where to start?
Great advice above!! My first move after checking to see that wls was covered by my insurance was to attend a free seminar which my surgeon did, at the weightloss surgery clinic... they then told me what my insurance required and what steps to make...Good Luck to you!

Two weeks post op - can't get the calories in
My surgery was 4 days before yours and my daily calories run from 700-800 a day. My nutritionist told me to concentrate on getting my fluids and proteins in and not to be concerned with calories. I'm told the hunger will come! Best wishes to you!
