so sorry your experience has not been good.. you still lost a good amount of weight . I would ask my surgeon to do a barium swallow to make sure your band is in place. you should not have these problems if it is. My only regret is not doing my surgery when I was younger. but life has to be lived in the future and not in the past. I am happy and healthy and that was my goal. Lapband saved my life and health.

I cannot express how happy I am today. We went on a 7 day cruise to Alaska and I did not even gain one lb. First time in my life that I did not pack on at least 10 lbs while on vacation. A Cruise ship as you know has tons of food everywhere, but my band kept me in check. I ate a good bit of fish and some veggies. Did not do the Pasta or pizza . I did eat some frozen yogurt and one night I had lobster ravioli which was really light and delicious but couldn't eat the whole portion. I even drank some wine with dinner. One of the best things was riding horses in Skagway and watching whales in Juneau. I walked all over the ship everyday I explored . My niece and her husband joined us on the trip from Vegas, they are both younger than I am but both are out of shape. They said I was like the eveready bunny and they couldn't keep up. I cannot tell you how different I am today than 3 years ago. I am living the life I want and feel like a million bucks. I am so thankful for my lapband . horseback riding in Skagway was great.

Watched "My weight is killing me" last night, It is the story of two doctors, father and son who perform bariatric surgeries. They feature some of their patients and their struggles and successes. One of the guys who was 700 lbs developed blood clots but after they did a vent or something in his leg he improved. He ultimately lost 200 lbs and was able to get out of the bed and walk which was a big move for him . 2nd patient was a lady who had bypass, she started at 450? lost over 200 lbs but had huge bat wings and loose skin hanging down almost to her knees.. Sadly her insurance will not pay for skin removal. Not sure what she will do but it was sad. She works out and has been doing great with her diet , I am praying somehow she gets her surgery. last patient was a 17 year old boy who was already over 300 lbs. They decided to do lapband on him and after 30 days he had lost 35 lbs seems like he will do well, he has diabetes and high blood pressure so it was a decision by his parents and himself to have a healthier life. Pretty good show

my dr said no straws no carbonation, no gum. I paid him good money for his expertise. he has done thousands of lapbands. if he says stand on your head while eating or whatever, that's what I do. I have tried to be complaint and so far so good. I don't need to use a straw and I don't need gum and I don't need soda. I am happy to follow the rules. I have also rules for eating which I follow. so far I have not experienced any problems with my band and I want to keep it that way.

looks like a botched surgery. my port scar is so tiny and I have never had any problems with my band. I see some scary posts about band surgeries gone wrong. I am so happy I went to the best surgeon in our area to have mine.
I hope you get healed up and are successful with weight watchers.

so Grateful to be heading for 70 (i'm almost 69) and being healthy.
Grateful that I found the courage to have my lapband surgery
Grateful for my wonderful supportive family
So Grateful that I no longer have diabetes or high blood pressure or high cholesterol
Grateful that I was able to go to Alaska and ride horses (my bucket list)
Now I am grateful that I am physically able to care for my husband who has had some serious health issues lately.
And I am so grateful for my banded friends who posts their successes and difficulties. It's been a good thing for me to be able to discuss the ins and outs of the lapband. I still have no regrets and am extremely happy with my results.

wonderful idea, positive post for lapbands... I am sure most everyone knows how I feel about negative band bashing posts so it's indeed a good thing to dedicate this to lapband success. I have been banded almost 3 years. haven't had to be on any medication since surgery . I am healthier and happier than I have been in many years. As I get closer to 70 years of age I realize how lucky I am to have found the solution to my obesity and bad health. Without your health you have nothing. I have not had any complications. the surgery itself was a piece of cake for me. I do have to remind myself sometimes that I need to eat slower, old habits die hard . But I would recommend the band to every person who ask me.

Sharpie got a reaction from jfc193 in What is the rudest thing someone has said to you?!?!
Oh Kitt I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine saying those kind of things to my daughter or granddaughters. My mother was never complimentary to me. She always said I was homely or my hair looked horrible or something. I do not think she was ever proud of me. I grew up with lots of self confidence issues and somehow I turned out to be a pretty good person. I was a mother and successful business owner and my daughter and granddaughters all are great kids but my mother never acknowledged anything good about me or my life. It still hurts today even though she has been gone for 16 years I was never able to get close to her even in her later years. I don't even think she realized how much she hurt me.
I guess we all have hurtful things happen we have to realize that our happiness is for ourselves and not for others.
I applaud everyone of you who are taking steps to become healthier and happier. I pray for peace for all.

Keep telling it B52, you are the poster boy for Lapband Surgery. At age 68 I am so excited about life now that I can enjoy doing things. We are leaving tomorrow for our Alaskan Cruise, I am going to ride horses I Skagway while my husband takes a train ride (he loves trains). 3 years ago I wouldn't have even considered doing the cruise .
as a side note, I had to unload horse feed the other day, husband has been under the weather. I picked up a 50# bag and it was pretty heavy but I thought to myself wow I used to carry that much and more on my body every day. Thank God for lapband and my surgeon I no longer carry that burden. Glad to see these positive stories.

    welcome,
I think this is a great site for questions and info and others experience with the band.
There appear to be some naysayers around on some of the sites. but please be assured there are happy and healthy banders around.
Hoping for a great fresh start for you .

awe Pink I am honored that you think I am a role model. The riding in Alaska was on my bucket list and I knew I had to be healthy and in shape to accomplish that. They had a height and weight limit to ride. I was just tall enough and my weight was not an issue.. thank the Lord. I didn't get to see much of Seattle but would like to go back one day. Alaska is amazing and it sure helps to be able to walk.. There is a lot of walking on the ship and on the land.

I did it.....The OLD MAN did it!!!
St. Kitts, climbed a Volcano, over 3000 feet through a Tropic Rain forest.
I am 63 years old, the next age was a couple who were 42...after that everyone was in their 20's and 30's.
We broke up in 3 groups of 12...if you were falling behind, you would drop back a group. If a group was slowing you down, then you moved up a group. Took us 3 hours to get to the summit.
I started in the first group, and stayed there.
Half of the 2nd group didn't make it, and we never saw the 3rd group...they all quit.
I go to the gym 4-5 days a week, run 5 &10 K's, but THIS was probably the toughest Challenge I have done in 20 years!!!
That's why I did it...to prove it to myself!
Yes, I was once morbidly obese, had diabetes, heart trouble, etc etc.
Five years ago I could not climb the stairs in my house without getting short of breath.
Am I bragging?? You Bet!! And it is all because of the Lap Band Surgery!!!
(Next day I jumped off a 45ft cliff into the crystal clear Caribbean....no one else would do it)

thanks guys, I am thankful everyone enjoyed my positive post. I talked to my niece today she said I have motivated her and her husband to get In better shape.. They could not believe how good I looked and how active I was. So, if even one person gets benefit from my story I am thrilled. Looking at another adventure for next year, thinking Canada to a dude ranch.
