  1. EAT MORE FIBER! Or take a fiber gummy with a probiotic yummy. Thats what I do and it works great. If you become dependent on laxatives, your body will lose the normal sensation to go and you will have to retrain your colon when to know its time to go.
  2. I agree with Sia. Sounds like you are too tight. You need to be able to eat food and not have to force it through.
  3. Banded 1/30 and will be getting my first fill on 2/25. I am not struggling with my diet. I'm not hungry so I might not even get a fill. I guess we will see when I go in. I'm still losing about a pound every other day or so. That time of the month is ending so I might lose more.
  4. If you eat or drink and then lay down or even recline, that could cause reflux/heartburn. There are many possibilities. Are you on liquids? If anything call your doctor.
  5. I hate asking for help too. If I need something done, I do it myself. But trust me when I say, asking for a little bit of help here and there is okay. My husband would bring me my meds and the clear liquids. But when I was down stairs, I did it myself. That is a good compromise. After a couple days, he only brought them to me in the morning since thats when it hurt the worst for me since I hadnt taken my meds in 8 hours and getting out of bed was very painful for me. I'm 10 days post op and painting the trim for my 6 year old daughters remolded room. On the floor scooting the whole way! Trust me, if you've had c-sections, this isn't too much different from those. I've had two so I know. I was up walking around an hour after both. You can do this. I know you can.
  6. Yes, it does hurt. But you need to let the nurses in recovery know if your nauseated or in pain. It will hurt mostly where your port is since A) that will be that largest incision they stitch it into the abdominal muscle. There might be gas pains from the air they fill your abdomen with to see better. That will mostly likely be in your shoulder. It might hurt to take a deep breath but you need to fight through that so you don't get pneumonia. They might have you breath with a device...I was barely able to do it but I tried. Stay on top of your meds. Don't be a hero. This is a time for healing. You need to rest, but also get up and walk around a little because it will help with gas pains, help lower the risk of blood clots and pneumonia. Plus it helps your muscles stretch. It might hurt getting up from a bed. I rolled off my bed for days. Some sleep in recliners. The pain doesn't last for long so before you know it, you'll have more energy and start to feel like you. Follow your surgeon's orders and don't hesitate to call them for questions. I've had 8 surgeries, 6 of which were abdominal. I will keep you in my thoughts. You can always message me. My door is always open.
  7. The days will go by super fast. I made mine for 3 weeks out due to work, and the time FLEW by!! I still can't believe I'm banded. Most days I don't feel any different, and then I'll lean on the washer, or twist wrong and my port reminds me it's there. Congratulations!
  8. That's what I told my husband last night when we went to dinner and I had tomato soup and a small portion of mashed potatoes (the waitress looked at me funny for just a sec lol) and I got the soup first and was sipping and sipping, then got the potatoes and was taking small nibbles, but I had to keep reminding myself to set the spoon down, and before I know it, I'm FULL! He's like, you need to remember the rules dear, and I'm like, ITS A 30 YEAR HABBIT!!!! hahaha. Oh this will take sometime. But worth it obviously!
  9. There is SO much unknown and SO many possibilities, it's always a good idea to ask the pro's! I hope you guys figure out what it is!
  10. Still have gas pains here and there in my left shoulder but I'm used to it now. Starting to get hungry every once in a while but only when I go way too long without eating. I have to set alarms to remind me to have something small. Still working on getting enough protein in. Going back to work next Wednesday so that will mark two weeks post op. Other then that, incisions are healing great. Had internal stiches and glue which the glue has come off all but my port incision. I can sleep on my port side and no real complaints.
  11. I would start with a good multivitamin. It will make a world of difference. Then if that doesn't do the trick, go get some blood work done. Could be something simple as a deficiency.
  12. Same here. I let them know I get very nauseous after abdominal surgery so they gave me a patch and plenty of nausea meds. Then a take home phenergan and oxycodone I had no problem after that.
  13. I had to call my doctors office and e-mail them 5 times before they finally sent the records over to the clinic. You can't assume it will get done. They are super busy. You have to babysit everyone. Lesson I had to learn.

  15. Good luck tomorrow! Its very exciting and a very nervous time but you will be fine!
  16. Was banded on 1/30 and I still have gas pain in my left shoulder.
  17. Are you on any anti nausea medication? If not, ask for some. They can call it into your pharmacy, just go have someone pick it up. No need to suffer. I asked for it pre-op cuz I know my body and what happens when I have oxycodone.
  18. Welcome! I had surgery on 1/30 so I feel your pain. As far as the pulling, its gonna happen. Just get up slowly and make sure to strech carefully. They are healing and will be stiff. Moving around helps even though it hurts. Stay ontop of your pain meds. For the gas pains, moving, gas ex strips and a heating pad were and some times still are my best friends. The gas pain for me isn't constant and I barely feel the tug of the incisions anymore. I've been doing house work though and I probably shouldn't be but I'm not one to sit around. The only pain I really have anymore is at my port site and occasionally my shoulder from gas. Hang in there!
  19. Same here. 1 cup of food 3 times a day. Besides protein shakes and small snacks. Carbonated beverages and beer are off limits. With the beer, some bandsters have no issues, some do. The carbonated beverages, if they are allowed to go flat, can be find. My psychologist who is a veteran banster of 7 years drinks flat diet Dr. Pepper. There are foods that we are told can cause us issues. Fruits/veggies with seeds or a skin. Bread. Ect. Again, what bothers some, doesn't bother others.
  20. We had to bring our 6 year old daughter with us to the hospital after our babysitter caught the flu. We woke up at 4am and arrived at the hospital by 5:30 am. She hung out with my hubby and I and asked a lot of questions about what was going on. She held my hand after two trys to get the IV in and gave me hugs and kisses when it was time for surgery at 7:30am. While I was in the OR and recovery she hung out with my hubby and played with her My Little Ponys, her ds and the iPad. They went to breakfast and had her favorite; pancakes. When I was taken to short stay, they both came back to see me and my voice was really low and raspy from the breathing tube and the fact that it hurt to breath. My daughter was concerned and asked the nurse why mommies voice sounded funny and after they explained it to her, she was cool with it. She told me all about her day and how she's happy I'm okay. Then when it was time to finally go, she held my hand while the nurse removed my IV and asked to help wheel me out to the car. She is VERY much a caretaker. This is the third major surgery for me in a year so she is knowledgeable about what to expect. When she was two, her favorite book was my pocket anatomy and physiology book from school. Every child is different and every parent knows the limits of their children. Do what makes you all comfortable.
  21. Surgery was 1/30/13 and I'm not hungry. I accidentally went like 6 hours without something in my stomach (first time out of the house since surgery and was busy) so when I got back home and my stomach was rumbling bad! It hurt! I gently gave it what it wanted and it settled down. But through it all...I wasn't hungry. I'm sure that will change but for now I need to pay better attention and not rely on my stomach to tell me when to eat.
  22. I quit smoking the minute the clinic told me too. They gave me a list of reasons on why smoking is bad while banded. That was back in October. I just had my surgery Wednesday. I don't crave it at all and and super glad I did it.
