  1. Hi all, I am 1 month post-op (lap band with plication) and loving it. Anyway, I have an infection in my tooth and my dentist put me on penicillin for 10 days (4 pills a day)!! As any woman will tell you acidophilus or yogurt is a must when taking antibiotics. I've been crushing them in my pill crusher and taking them with applesauce or sugar free/fat free pudding (spoonfuls at a time). Anyone hear if either penicillin or acidophilus is bad for the band???? I probably should have asked before taking them!

    Surgery Scheduled for March

Hi everyone!!! Got banded today with plication am in my hospital room now. Everything went great! I have no gas pain just a little nauseous but they gave me meds. Been walking around a bunch. I'm on Long Island and Drs Ahmad and Argawala did my surgery at Mather Hospital.... Mathers nurses are amazing!!!!!! Just had to say that because they have been so awesome to me today ( and previously when I had my gallbladder removed and endoscopy). Hope everyone is doing well! Can't believe I'm finally banded! First day of the rest of my life!!
  3. Just got the call to be at hospital at 6am tomorrow! Ahhh so excited yet nervous (more about getting put to sleep, freaks me out that I can't control it) I have to stay overnight and they told me they make you get up every 3 hours to walk in the hospital which is good but I remember when I had my gall bladder removed all I wanted to do was sleep!!! Wish me luck!!! Can't wait to finally be a bandster!
  4. My surgery is this Saturday and I took all my PSTs yesterday and my primary needs to sign off. Got a call today from them and they said my sodium was a little low and shouldnt be an issue but they wanted to so another blood test so I had to drive 30 mins to my primary and get another blood test!! Argh. Won't have results until tomorrow. I think I will go nutty if the surgery gets postponed cause of this. Wish me luck!!!
  5. I already had my date of March 16th from a few weeks ago but the doctors office just called and I was OFFICIALLY APPROVED by insurance today! YAY! I start my 3 week pre op diet tomorrow (3 protein shakes a day plus a salad with sugar free dressing and 2 fruits a day). I Can't wait!!!

    Surgery Scheduled for March

Got my date today... march 16th! So excited to have a date finally and join a bandsters group :-) Rachel
  7. March 16th here! I'm so flippin excited!
  8. Hi all, So I just had my endoscopy done which was the final pre testing for my surgery. My insurance requires the 6 month pre diet and to be honest I've stayed exactly the same weight. My doctor told me I needed to lose 7 pounds before my surgery. I have been dieting (not perfect) but with no luck. Anyway, did anyone else have the 6 month diet? If so when did you finally get a surgery date? Did you have to wait until after you received approval or do they give it to you pending approval? Just curious. Thanks for all the help! Very excited!

    Letting Friends Know

Thank you all for your replies. I do not plan on telling a lot of people just a couple of close friends. The friend who went off on me tonight is (was)? my close friend but as you said true colors seem to be coming out. I think I might just wait to tell anyone else until after my surgery is completed. This is for me and no one else. Thanks again!
  10. The ones that can be done at my doctors office are the nutrition and psych consult which I am doing the same day. They said it takes about 2 hours. I am doing that early November. The blood work and pulmonary is being done at the doctors office too but I had to wait until early December for that. Everything else is someplace else! I have to take a full day off of work for the endoscopy. I'm not sure if all surgeons require it. The cardio is at another office as well a the ultrasound. I know it sucks about taking the time off from work. I'm in the same boat.
  11. I just went to my first consultation tonight. I spoke with the doctor and met with the coordinator and decided on the lap band with plication. They then went through all the tests I need to get done before surgery (endoscopy, cardio workup, pulmonary, psych, nutritionist, blood work and ultrasound)! Most of them I can get done at their office but a couple have to be done offsite (cardio and ultrasound). I also have to lose 7 pounds prior to surgery which is hopefully happening in February!. I'm not sure if all the doctors require the same thing but I feel it's best to know all is good before having the procedure done! Good luck!
  12. Like a lot of you I have struggled with weight my entire life. I've dieted, lost weight, gained weight etc. I went to the seminar 2 weeks ago and had consultation appointment tonight. I have chosen to go with the lap band with plication and pending all the tests will have the surgery in February. I'm very excited, nervous etc. Thankfully my wonderful mother is my support system. I made the mistake of telling one of my very good friends about the surgery. At first she didn't say much and then called me tonight to ask how the consultation went when I told her she went off how she is so against it and then said "why don't you just go to the gym more ?". She's skinny and has ALWAYS been skinny and just doesn't get it. Now I'm scared to tell anyone! She made me feel like such crap. Just curious how you all went about telling your close friends, etc? Any tips? People who have never struggled with weight just don't seem to get it at all. Thank you.

    Hi From Long Island

What surgeon did you use? Im going to dr Ahmad's seminar.
  14. Hi everyone- I'm sure a lot of you share the same story! I've been battling weight my entire life and have been doing a lot of research on the lap band. I'm going to a seminar on Tuesday. I'm wondering what occurs after that at your first consultation with the surgeon. Do they take blood, weigh you etc? When do you find out when insurance covers it. I have Oxford and I see on my EOB that this is covered as long as it is deemed medically necessary. My BMI is 40 but I do not have any other conditions (I think) except lately I've been getting heartburn a lot. Thanks for all your help and I'm glad to see there is a great community for support and answers.
