  1. And I am not banded yet, wait till that happens, the one in college will know better than i what i can eat. But his biggest thing is exercise. He hounds about that all the time. vicki in indy
  2. Nope I was clean as a whistle, just an empty Water bottle. The son that got woke up was like "what is going on" vicki in indy
  3. Oh trust me, I must have said goodbye five times. I even printed the whole im to keep. I didn't want to argue with him because basically he was right, he just doens't understand. But my patience was thin. I was just thankful it was over the computer and not in person. But it was strange to get berated over the computer. In his defense, he did say Your My Mom and I love you and I am watching you die a slow death. I hope that means he cares. The only good part about the conversation was his approval of the LAP BAND, which I am not saying I need, but comming from him it was interesting. Vicki in Indy
  4. That is exactly what I am hoping for. I am confident the band will improve my health and save me and the insurance company a lot of money and I plan on letting them know that too. My health at this rate has no where to go but down without a huge change. And I think the Band is the tool I need to make the change. And make it permanently. No more yo yo dieting. No more fads, just eating healthy and less, with the help of the band, and then being able to be off insulin and able to exercise. Quality of life should improve drastically. thanks for all your responses. vicki in indy
  5. Last night I was on instant messanger with my College Son who is 22 and a fitness guru and studies nutrition and exercise science ect..... He started getting on me, (in an instant message no less) about my diet, about exercise. This went on forever. Back and forth. I was unsure if I should bring up the Lap Band with him, assuming he would jump all over it in a negative way and saying that I should be able to do it without surgery. But to my surprise, I sent him a link, and he said, and i quote: "the band is pretty cool how it works". You could have picked me up off the floor. He did further say that all the testimonials to the bands success emphasis proper eating and exercise. I told him I knew that. So he says get a head start, start doing it now. This was going back and forth for like two hours. He asked me what was I eating at that very moment. I said nothing, he said "don't like Mom, you always eat at the computer, what is in front of you right now?' I told him and empty bottle of water. A few minutes later I hear another son come up from Down stairs who had been woken up on his cell phone to come and look and see what was in front of me. It was unreal. Anyway, kids are a pain in the butt sometimes. But i was glad he looked at the info and thought the concept was a good one. Sorry to ramble. vicki in indy
  6. Thanks Darla. Yesterday I spent the entire day trying to get into the site. Felt like I had lost a friend. Then all of sudden I thought well I will try once again and LapBandTalk came up. I was so happy. It is amazing how much the support and information from others in a persons same situation mean. It is like a life line. I am sure this place has been a life line to many. I am reading through past posts and loving it. You are right this is a more down to earth site that seemingly allow others to say what they feel without the know it all attitude. What I also like is that everyone are responded to and not just a choice few. Thank you again. Madame Yess [/b] Sometimes you just have to find a "home" and this place is a great home. Sending strong wishes for a uneventful surgery and a fantastic recovery. Everyone will be here for you on your journey. Even me who is just beginning. Vicki in Indy
  8. Hi My Name is Vicki, I live in Indpls. Indiana. I am 49 years old. Feel like I am eight nine. I have a BMI of 38. I am four feet ten inches, weight 188. I have seveal comorbidtys: Diabetes, type 2, trying to be controlled by insulin and oral meds, not doing such a hot job. Also, when I am on insulin I swell and am in a lot of pain in many areas of my body. I am sensitive to it or allergic or something. sleep apnea, I use a Bipap at night with a settin of 17/12. I have high blood pressure. Take meds for this. Have asthma and COPD, take inhalers and oral meds for this. I am short of breath most of the time. Partly because of the asthma but a bigger part because my stomach is large and hard and presses on my lungs making it very hard to breath. I have stress incontinence. I suffer from depression, (wonder why?) My Diabetes (INDO) Doc brought up WLS to me first. I thought you had to be more overweight then I am to have this. But his feeling is that it is the only way to control my diabetes. He says I need to be skinny, and I need to eat a low calorie diet but not be starving all the time. I am sure he is thinking GASTRIC BYPASS, but I feel the LAP BAND is the perfect tool to help me accomplish just what he is saying will help me. So I am at the beginning stages. I have done a lot of research on the band. I have read this site front and back and others too. I feel LAP BAND is exactly what I need. I saw my PCP this past week. He didn't seem to sure about this. He for sure knew nothing about the LAP BAND. So as his last ditch effort he prescribed me TOPAMAX, a med for seizures, with a side effect of weight loss. I took it for two days and felt really strange. Not sure if I will take it anymore or not. The PCP will send in a referral to the Insurance Company. But I don't think he holds out much hope that they will cover it. So my fight begins. I see the Diabetic DOc this thursday as well as my Pulmonologist. Next week I see my Sleep Doc. SO I plan on getting statements and records from each to give to the PCP to go along with his referral. ANy advice on how to proceed would be so appreciated. I learn something from you guys everyday. Thanks for being here. Vicki in INdy
  9. THis is my very first post, but I have been reading here a bit and when I read this last statement, I wanted to yell YAHOO. I am just now starting the process of getting banded. I mean just starting. I haven't met with a surgeon yet, just know that this is what I want. And WLS has been recommended by my Diabetic Doctor. I am asthmatic and diabetic, I have high blood pressure and sleep apena. Feeling better is what it is all about for me. I will put an introduction in on the right thread. I just had to comment about your excellent post. Thanks Vicki
