What is MFP? I also an not a veggie eater. I do love salad and have never had dressing in my life, so I am good eating salads before my dinner, about 1 hour before.
I have awful gas after every meal. I was told that is common and my husband doesn't make rude remarks anymore.
I go for my second fill the week after Thanksgiving. My weight hasn't changed much but I am losing inches. I take my measurements
on the 6th of each month, but I didn't start until September and my heaviest was in March and surgery July 30th. So I really don't know how large I was except by clothes.
    Good luck!!

Great job taking ownership and finding answers. I ate cottage cheese once and knew it was not anything that could carry me to the next meal When I eat I think bulk. I eat lots of chicken, tuna, beans, veggie burgers. I dont like to drink my calories or use them on bars. I also like veggies and hummus roasted or fresh.
    Good luck!

Good learning experience and good advice. Protein bars will give you gas, protein shakes are better and lower in carbs if you need a supplement. Did you know you can adjust your carbs, protein and what ever else you want to monitor on MFP. When you first enter your calories they assign the breakdown and it is much higher in carbs and fat then what we traditionally eat. I eat 40% carbs, 35% Protein and 25% fat. Now this is still a little high on the carb and fat end but it gives me 135mg of protein and 154gms of carbs. I was much lower in carbs when I was losing and really cut back on carbs after 2pm in the evening. I also got caught up in the greek yogurt for breakfast for months, thought it was ok because it was high in protein 15gms. It is better to eat things that require chewing and take longer to digest. But mainly do not be discouraged, I know you say, I only lost 1/2 lb but just thing you didn't gain and sometimes your body needs time to adjust to the new weights.

    MsAnn,
Please let me be here for you. I take medicine for depression caused by an anxiety disorder.I don't know exactly how you feel, but I know what hopeless feels like and what lonely feels like when you are around people.
I have lost friends, fake friends actually, and have watched my kids experience that too.
I am not trying to cheer you up, I am trying to say I want to be an ear. An anonymous ear that you can unload on. Give me a chance, if it helps make you feel better even for a little while. If I make you feel worse, then I understand. If uou want to chat please send me a message, I promise I will answer.
    You matter to me.

I take all chew able vitamins, also. I take them all in the morning and try very hard to remember the second Caltrate calcium & vitamin D with dinner. They taste good, they are berry flavored. For my protein, I have every morning a protein shake and have 1 1/2 scoops of powder. That way I know I have a lot of protein for the day. I hate breakfast foods and this is how before my banding I lost about 20 something pounds.
    Good luck.

I am 2 years post op and I do take my vitamins daily and I use the chew-ables. This is what I do; every morning I place all of my daily supplements in a snack bag and take it to work with me and keep it in my pocket or lay it on my desk by my computer. This way I have them with me all day, I take half after breakfast and half after lunch. It is hard to remember if they sit in the cabinet and are not in front of you. As far as protein, for good weight loss with lap band it is key to get your protein in or you will not lose weight steadily and you will lean muscle instead of the fat we want to lose. I eat around 100gms of protein aday and yes it is hard. I do supplement with a shake on the days I can not get enough protein in just to make sure I get all the needed protein. Fish is a good protein choice because it has more protein than other meat sources by volume. I also add egg whites to shakes and my oatmeal and sometimes if I really need extra protein I add unflavored to my soups or other dishes that I cook. I try very hard to get 20 gms per meal, it is hard but with planning it is possible. They do make liquid calcium but it is nasty, I have found the chew-able, gummy vitamins to be the best.

I have noticed from others that sometimes after being banded for a while, it is easy to forget or stray from the original guidelines or some banders didn't get adequate information from their centre initially.
For starters, I would log what you are eating (ideally through myfitnesspal or something like that that will track calories too). You should not exceed (per my doctor) about 1200 calories per day and should have about 60+ grams of protein. Try not to exceed 1 cup of food per meal and have a planned healthy snack in between meals (piece of fruit) or something.
If you are not able to get even yogurt down, perhaps your band is a little too tight which may be causing you to eat some unhealthier items (sliders) that will go down easily and that may be part of the problem.
It sounds like you could really benefit from a visit (or 2) with a nutritionist to get back on track. You shouldn't feel so defeated and frustrated with your food choices. I am able to eat most anything as long as I eat slowly and eat small bites. I would urge you to see out one (my bariatric clinic has ones on staff) and they have a lot of great ideas and advice. I truly don't feel deprived and only did when I was too tight and struggled getting solid food down.
I also have found healthier ways to still enjoy many foods I loved before but now in a healthier way. There is a website called Emily bites (I believe) and there are many recipes that you make in cupcake pans so they are portioned out into appropriate sized meals. They are healthy versions (ie. lasagna) of everyday foods. I really enjoy them.
    Good luck to you!

Hi, my name is Fran, and I'm also a scale-o-holic!
Oh my gosh, I read this & thought I should just do a copy & paste this and put it on my own blog. :~0
I can't help myself either. I weigh myself in the morning then again before bed time. The last weigh in will usually tell me if the scale will go down in the morning, or that's what I tell myself.
I almost cried when I read that your scale died. I don't know what I would do. No, wait. I do know what I would do. Thankfully, Walmart is open 24 hours... LOL
Hang in there AJ. We know better, and one day, we might stop looking so much!

My heart aches for you. You are a wonderful daughter and I am sure they know that. Whether you are spiritual or not, god has a plan for all of us. 84 years on earth so far to be with your parents. WOW! In the end you can say I had the privlidge of having the most loving and giving parents. When I read this it makes me want to call my folks and tell them I love them. Think I will just do that. Use your faith to get through and time will heal. Ask for help and go to support groups. Yes, that "C" word sucks. I have lost many loved ones to it and it just sucks. I will pray for you and your family. God Bless.

It's not easy, but gosh my dad is such a trooper. He goes with the flow, and it almost makes us "forget" that he has cancer. It'll be OK, because we'll just continue to be there & provide support. It won't be easy, but we'll make it.
In the meantime, I want my dad to see me getting thinner & hopefully healthier. I know he wants what's best for me.
    Appreciate your kind words!

I've heard lots of tips....I try to practice these...I only got stuck two times and that was due to NOT chewing enough before swallowing....and then my chest was ON FIRE and I thought I was having a heart attack....so the incentive to not repeat that is definitely innate in me.
set fork down after EVERY bite
Count chews (I usually chew 30-40 times to get it mushy...and I imagine trying to put the food through a funnel...it has to be that small and I do not swallow until its that's small.)
Strike up a conversation with whomever you are eating with...how's the beans? is that the way you like them best? etc...idle chit chat
Then I take another bite, chew, talk....repeat
I also measure my food out up to 1 cup (I have a visual problem and I still want to eat even when I'm full) I've been overfull which is very uncomfortable too so limit myself.
