  1. I say if you want it go for it. And I agree adopting a dog at pet smart... It's easier to get a kid. We got denied twice. Then I went to a shelter . But they are a huge commitment. Do you travel a lot? Work long hours? Able to walk/play with the dog? Some things to think about. And yearly vet visits and food. Things people over look
  2. And that was only for the 24 hours prior to surgery. During my 2 week preop liquid diet is could drink and eat any color. But that day before no red or purple according to my surgeon.
  3. I too was told no red or purple liquids. It can be mistaken for blood by the Dr during surgery.
  4. Hey there. Sleeved 12/10/12,down a total of 66lbs, 32 preop and 34 postop. Feeling good.
  5. My Dr said once on foods I could switch back to pill instead of chewable. I bought the orange celebrate ones preop and liked then until postop. I then could no longer tolerate them. I used Flintstone until I could go back to pill form. My Dr also states that since we have no rerouting of the intestines and malnourishment is fairly nonexistent with the sleeve that we do not need to take a Bariatric vitamin like those with rny or ds. That an age appropriate multi should suffice. Now we all have to listen to our docs. Just letting you know what mine says.
  6. Definitely would call the answering service and have him paged or have you pcp do it to get the meds started.
  7. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope you're doing well now and that one day this becomes a great decision that you made.
  8. If you know your policies and criteria and you meet its, shouldn't be a problem as long as all the paperwork is correct! Take a breathe and relax. Good things will happen! Good luck!
  9. Just think it's one quick thing you have to do to change the rest of your life . It's only downhill from there .
  10. I just told them it had dr appointments. Legally they can't ask you and you don't have to tell them. And I believe when I took my leave my form said abdominal surgery.
  11. Hey. I was sleeved 12/10/12. The leak test did not hurt but to me it was the worst tasting thing I have ever had. If it's the same as mine, it was clear and maybe only an ounce or two, but it tasted radioactive lol. I would of rather drank a huge canister of the white barium. Now part of my issue was that my new sleeve was so swollen that liquids were not going down. So that damn stuff was sitting in my esophagus for hours. I then had to stay on the hospital bc of the swelling and the fact that I failed my leak test (not for a leak but for swellling). I had to do this test again 2 days later. It was awful the 2nd time too lol. We all also have different taste buds so maybe I won't be too bad for you.
  12. I know you're right! When have I EVER lost 44 pounds in 2 months! My Dr is the one who made a comment about it not coming off as fast as he would of liked. So then I kinda got I stuck in my head that it wasn't fast enough. But you're so right! Thank you.
  13. Hi all. Sleeved 12/10/12 and going well. Was hoping for a little faster loss but as long as I am losing and not gaining I am now ok with it. I started this journey in august at 332 size 26, today I am at 266 in size 20 or 22 (depends on the pants). This is the best I have felt in a long time. Last weekend we took our two year old sledding and instead of sitting on the sidelines watching her I got to play too! It was so much fun . I too just started getting this empty gnawing feeling. I usuly get it started night and thought I was hungry. Maybe it's acid? I do take a dissolvable prevacid every morning, 30mg,but maybe I need more? I started each day with a pistachio protein shake. Then have usually 3 meals a day. Get about 70g of protein a day. Some days are better than others for water. To the person who mentioned the fruit in the water is might have to try that! Thank you! Starting wt: 332 DOS: 300 (was 315 when I started my 14 day preopdiet) Today: 266
  14. be safe dat! just saw how much snow you got, that's crazy! i am in chicago and 2 years ago we got 2 feet and i thought that was bad. some of the drifts were even worse of course. stay safe! at least your power is on! (i assume).
  15. dig your way out and go play in the snow . that will keep your mind off the pantry. love snow!
  16. i started this journey at 332 and i'm 5'8". i was sleeved 12/10/12, day of surgery i was 300, today i am 268. i think i am losing slowly and so does my doctor but i am doing everything i am supposed too and that's all i can do. next week i will be upping my workouts so hopefully that will kick it into high gear. but total i am down 64lbs.

  18. Oh and the weirdest thing. I had to pee so bad when I got to my room. Seriously felt like I was going to pee my pants. Finally got up into the bathroom and it was so hard to go. I was told it's from that drying out med. Makes all fluid producing membranes go to sleep so they said my bladder didn't want to empty even though I had to go. It was such a weird feeling.
  19. Hey there. Was sleeved 12/10/12. Overall had a good experience. Checked into the hospital at 10am for a noon surgery. Got prepped, pregnancy test, rinsed mouth with listerine. Came back to room and put on a weird paper gown that hooked up to warming blowers. Of course surgeon was a little behind so things didn't start rolling until almost 1. Prep nurse started iv and I waited for the Dr to come in. Once he stopped in things flew. Anesthesiologist stopped in to ask me questions and go over my chart. Then the OR nurse came in and also went over my chart. She then gave me a med that dries you out. Also gave me a teddy bear that she laid between my feet, then gave me another med to calm me down. I was awake going into the OR and remember everyone getting things I the room ready. The anesthesiologist then asked if I was ready and I woke up in recovery. I woke up very nauseous and was dry heaving a bit. So i got a couple anitnausea meds to help. Something a girl I know pointed out to me recently. She asked me if I woke up in the same gown that I went into surgery with and I started laughing and said no. I then had a little complex that I was laying there naked . Not sure if this helps you at all.... Good luck tomorrow!
  20. My Dr says when you start regular foods you can swallow pills. But that is what he recommends. Your dr might be different.
  21. This thread has a good explanation http://m.obesityhelp.com/member/carmelita/blog/2011/03/31/-2 There is also a great video Something else to keep in mind is how the Dr uses the bougie. If they don't push that tube snug up against the top of your stomach or they don't staple right snug up next to it on the outer side then a 32 french may end up being a 40 french. It's just a guide for them to follow. At least that's is my take on the whole thing.
  22. You should be fine as others stated. I too have bcbs but in IL. I know each plan isn't exactly the same but our clause said +35 with 2 comorbidities or +40 with none. If you're at 41 there shouldn't be a question of approval. Bcbs is really good. I too had no comorbidities but my bmi was a little higher than yours coming in at almost 51. I got approved in 3 days. Good luck to you!
  23. Totally normal. Like others said iv fluids and swelling. I would worry more about water, popsicles and broths the first couple days. I couldn't even smell a protein drink for almost 2 weeks postop. I wish you well! Congrats on your sleeve!
