  1. No to eat like that. But many years ago I have bought raw almonds and cashews for recipes where I would stir fry them. Are they good or do you cook them?
  2. Feel better. Call your doctor, is true. I have a cold right now. My PCP told me to take children's liquid Mucinex. Also adults liquid Tylenol I have been given before. I suck on cough drops but I also have had the band since July.
  3. Never had it. I do eat natural chunky peanut butter with no salt. I live in the Boston area and near by is a company, Teddie's, and they make great peanut butter.
  4. I can not be trusted with dark chocolate covered almonds. I just can't stop eating them. I always bought them from Trader Joe's. My surgeon told me almonds are very high in calories and to control my intake. Thank you for the suggestion.
  5. One of my favorite foods is almonds. I buy inexpensive roasted no salt almonds. I put about 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large fry pan and then add the almonds and roast them on med-high heat for about 10-15 minutes. I stir them around. I keep them in plastic ware in the refrigerator. Today I decided to add about 2 tablespoons of Splenda brown sugar. They taste awesome.
  6. I think you will do fine. We all went through it and we are all alive and doing great. I am much older than you and don't want to voice my opinion but I am, please do not tan. I had a friend, 1 year older than me, and she died because of cancer from a tanning bed. They are so bad for you. Get the spray on, the lotion just not the bed, please. You don't have to listen but I needed to say that. Sorry for inferring. Have a great day and you will be fine on the shakes.
  7. I fart and burp all the time. I was banded in July I don't know how long they continue for
  8. My husband doesn't eat meat and hates the smell of bacon unless it is for his grandsons. I always bought the pre cooked for me. I tried bacon a few times on my salad and it was too hard to chew but I may try it again. My youngest son has a Texas BBQ/smoker (he does catering) and the other night made home made bacon. I was not invited! That I would love to try.

My husband gave up meat 35 years ago for dieting-no he quit the health kick-but still no meat. Many years ago I made meatballs and turkey balls. He eats the turkey ones. My oldest son's friend ate over and I asked do you want meatballs or turkey balls? Eric, answered, I didn't know turkeys had balls. He was a senior in high school at the time. I love dumb kids.
  10. That's like the cookie crumbs at the bottom of the bag, aren't cookies, they are crumbs. That comment made me laugh. I log everything I eat into my Fitbit.
  11. That was great and honest. I am on the scale about 5 times a day and I will not throw it out like my son said to. The weight didn't appear in one, two or six months and it will not disappear that fast either and I knew that. If I wanted super fast weight loss I would have had the sleeve or bypass which I never wanted. This new way of eating is very doable and I enjoy it. My lunch today was smaller than usual, I am proud of myself for that. Have a great weekend.
  12. Loved your answer and how you put it, plain and simple!!
  13. Congratulations!! The gas pain is awful, try a heating pad. I had the band in July and every day take liquid colace to help with movements. They gave it to me when I left the hospital along with Zantac for one month and pain meds, all liquids. If you get bored with all liquids, try SF Popsicles. I love them and it makes you feel almost like you are eating. Good luck with the new you!
  14. Hi and welcome. I chose the band because there is no major cutting of the insides and it can be removed if need be. You lose weight slower at a real nice pace and you can control everything. I know of about 6-10 people who had the bypass and they gained back and then some. The band and every other WLS is a tool and you have to learn to control the tool and want it to work for you. I had the band in July at almost 62 and it is the best thing I ever did for me. The weight comes off slower but I am happy with that. I gained the weight over many years so I can wait. I would recommend the band to any one who wants to try WLS for their health and longer life. Good luck with your choice.
  15. When I joined the gym the middle of December, I could only do 5 minutes on the recumbent at that time. My husband could do 3 minutes on the tread mill. We both have improved since then. Who cares? I tried the elliptical but can only do 1-3 minutes because of a bad knee and I don't care what others think of me doing such a short time on it. I have since given up. Join the gym and be happy with you.
  16. You're on the right site. You talk, we all listen and learn from each other. I never smoked but my husband and 2 sons did and I know they had lots of trouble quitting. Very happy for you. Good luck with your new Band.
  17. I have trouble chewing bacon and pork. I don't eat ham, though. the only pork I eat are spareribs from one Chinese restaurant because they have the world's best! Try and see if they agree. I am from Boston and we are famous for lobster, I can only chew the claws now. Everyone is different. Enjoy the bacon.

Wonderful news!!!!!!!!! I am very happy for you.
  19. Sorry to hear about all your bad luck. I don';t think you are from my support group. Are you from the Boston area? The person from my group had her band around July, 2012 when I did.
  20. WOW!! congratulations. You look super and should be very proud of your hard work. I love looking at people that do well. That makes me see the light at the end of the tunnel.
  21. a woman at my support group tried to get the group into believing that the wrap works. She said the next time you see me I will look different. That was around September. She has not been to a meeting since. Go figure! i have lots of skin hanging and I am not near goal yet. So how often do you need to be wrapped? How much $$$$$$$.
  22. It hurts for under 30 seconds. I have had 3 fills so far. No biggie. Good luck.

For pre-op I could have a small meal a day and I spread it out. I would have my one cup of salad and an hour later the protein part. It helped me. Also, SF Popsicles are wonderful to have. I have them all the time. After dinner they are great. Good luck with the new you!
  24. my gym is open 24/7 and I usually go around 2-3pm and it is empty. I love that.
  25. Congrats! on your weight loss. I finally joined a gym in December with my husband. I am not the largest woman there and there are a lot of very large men. I know that is important. I use the recumbent bike and a few machines. I do well with this right now. My membership includes any classes I want but I don't feel ready right now for them. I was told that you can go at your own pace just stand in the back. They have a spinning class but I can not do more than 20-30 minutes now so that is out. 3 days a week they have a senior class which I haven't tried yet that tones and stretches. I guess I feel weird doing a class but some day i will try them. I live in Boston so you have to exercise inside during the winter. Join, maybe they have a trial membership for one month. I pay $20. per month and can bring a guest everyday with me so my husband is free and that includes all the classes but for me only.
