yesterday-I was a bad girl
Yesterday I started my day perfect as I do every day, with my shake. Then I was very bad! I went for monthly 'free' Godiva chocolate but bought an extra plus some almond bark. I like having a small piece of bark when I have the urge for dark chocolate. Then I went to Cracker Barrel for lunch, bad, very bad. Had 2 biscuits. I was walking around the outlet stores again, so I did get in some walking, Then I went food shopping with my MIL. She is 90 but the world's slowest walker and never has a list and had me walking all over the store. My Fitbit said I did about 4000 steps shopping with her. She only bought about 20 things. I text my husband from the store, you owe me big time. I can do a month's worth of shopping in less time without walking 4000 steps. Today my older grandsons are coming over. We are taking them to the Children's Museum. Should be another great walking day. The weather sucks in Boston, so we have to do something indoors with the boys, ages 5 and 13. The science museum would cost over $100. for 4 of us, what a rip off!!!!!!!! How do families afford to have a great day out. My mother will be 95 on the 10th and she finally lost her last tooth the other day. The same day my 7 month old grandson got his 1st! His other great grandmother (mother's side) lost 2 teeth last week too. Weird. Everyone enjoy your day. Arlene

- lunch out with husband
Last summer when I tried it I had trouble with the tail but not the claws. This time the claws, too. Every person is different. My husband got to eat about 1/2 pound of lobster meat-he was thrilled. I would say try a little and see what happens and have a back-up meal.- Fish ideas for a non fish eater?
I learned to love salmon, thinking it was swordfish. I now eat salmon a lot. I usually use an Asian marinade like sesame ginger and add sesame seeds and put some oil in a hot pan and brown it on all sides. I love this. I don't eat any white fishes because to me they are fishy. I love shrimp and crab meat. Today lobster killed me, stuck real bad. I am from Boston and we are fish eaters here. I grew up having some kind of fish at least once a week. Good luck finding your fish.- lunch out with husband
So today we were on our way to an Italian restaurant for lunch and we were passing a golf club that has views of Boston. So we went to the golf course. The menu was great. We both decided on the lobster roll that had mayo on the side. I hate mayo so this was perfect. This would be my second time trying lobster since the banding last July. I got stuck real bad. It was awful. My poor husband was left eating while I was walking around outside in 97 degree weather. People from NE live on lobster since birth and now I can not do it any more. I am very sad about it. The french fries went down fine, of course. Stay cool and wear sun block. 'Eye Candy"/Arlene- The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
I really enjoy your stories and all the details. Thank you for sharing them.- Obesity as a disease
- If I see another protein shake I just might hurt someone
sorry you feel this way. I love my daily protein shakes. Maybe it's your brand, flavor etc. I only drink chocolate (Body Fortress) in 8 oz of skim milk, a little decaf instant coffee, a little peppermint extract and tons of ice and it becomes as thick as Wendy's or McDonald's shakes. I have one for breakfast every morning for about 16 months and I am only banded 11 months.- Who was the toughest person you decided to tell about getting the band?
Not one person was negative. My MIL doesn't believe in going under the knife at all but she was supportive and still is. When I told her I want a tummy tuck and a face lift, that she was against. We'll see, just need money for those.- Greetings From a Newb
- new type of surgery
I am in Boston and right now I am watching the Doctors. They just showed a new WLS for the person who needs to lose 25-60lbs. They put a tube thing down through your mouth and fold part of your stomach. It has been used for about 4 years but not approved by the FDA, yet. They use this surgery for other things. Very interesting. I would say to go their web site and see the video. They explain it better than me. My husband likes the sound of this surgery because his heart doctor wants him to lose about 30 pounds. Another thing they spoke about was the WLS cards to show in restaurants. The doctors said why can't anyone order a smaller meal.- fitbit
Love mine. I wear every day. I wear it on my bra. I record all my foods and exercises.- If I can do it, so can you!
Missy, you are super!! Just sharing your bads and goods with all of us must be hard. Thank you By the way your before and after pictures, your daughter is beautiful. Have a wonderful day. Arlene- Johnny's got another date with the Devil!
Have a fun weekend with the "MEN" and the devil. Remember only you can hurt you.- Sagging skin & scar creams?
Age and family history has a real lot to do with it. I am over 60 so the skin hangs. I use every kind of moisturizer known to man kind and nothing cures the sags. I have bat wings and a trainer at the gym showed me some machines to try to help but I don't think they will ever be gone without surgery. That is why the clothes designers have sleeves on tops. Good luck with your new journey and hopefully no sagging.- Will I be back to normal tomorrow?
You will be fine. Just remember, chew, chew chew and you should be fine. No drinking for 30 minutes before and after. If you get a stuck feeling, get up and walk until the feeling goes away. I have had that more than once, in restaurants and at family dinners. Sometimes a burp and then I am fine.- GERD and Weight Loss Surgery ?
I had my hernia repaired and my stomach was in the wrong place and that was fixed when I got the band. I took 6 pills (prescription) just to eat and as soon as I had the band, no meds except the usual vitamins and minerals that you need to take. Good luck.- Weight loss Clinic Orientation...Disappointment
Very good you are researching. Is there another place to go for the surgery that may be better for you? I know where I live (big city-Boston) there are a lot of places to go. Good luck.- Weight Loss?
Unlike most people, I did zero research. My lung doctor told me you are getting this surgery and made the appointment for me to go to a meeting about all the WLS. The band is the best thing I ever did for me. I started the journey, October, 2011 and started watching my intake, March, 2012 at 268. My surgery was July 30, 2012 and I was 240 that day. I am now around 190-192 and have had 3 fills for a total of 1.5 cc. I have lost 60% of my BMI and the doctor is thrilled with that number. I want to lose more, don't really know how much. I planned on this taking 1 1/2-2 years to get to my new weight. The way I lost the 28 pounds before the band was having shakes for breakfast and giving up all breakfasts. I still have them every morning and enjoy them. I don't eat eggs so this really works for me. I go to the support groups every month at the hospital and love them. My husband goes with me for support and he has learned a lot, also. I hope I have helped you. Just ask any and all questions, there is no such thing as a dumb question. Arlene- saw on FB
no band but he goes to the gym with me and we watch his food intake together. he was very sick 2 years ago and has lost about 50-60 pounds.- mammogram
Went for my annual mammogram today. Everything was great. When I was around 39-40 I did have a benign tumor removed, so I go every year. Do you? It was my first one since having the band so of course you tell the technician. She told me her sister had the by pass a few years back, never told anyone. The sister didn't know what to do and how to handle herself. Unfortunately she is larger than before her by pass. That is very sad. This site is the best helper for me. If you use your help, hopefully you will succeed. Have a great WLS day.- saw on FB
That awesome moment when your ex is getting fatter and you are getting hotter!! Love this. I don't have an ex but I have many ex friends and saw one the other day and she couldn't believe how great my hub and I look.- Frustrated
