Did You Have A Catheter During Your Surguery ?
I was reading a post in "The Men's Room" And the topic of getting a cath came up, some had it some didn't. So how many out there did verses didn't

Using the restroom
I'm interested now if how many people get a cath verses not... I think I'll ask over in the pre-op area.

Two Quick Questions
1.) post surgical gas.. Is the pain actual flachulent type gas pain? Like the kind you get after a questionable gas station burrito? 2.) Is the plication portion of the surguery where the stomach is folded into the band? My surgeon does a small plication in the back of the stomach... My understanding is not all surgeons do the plication. I don't mind calling the office again but I want to know before Monday. I called earlier this week and asked if he did plication but was unable to answer when they called back, I asked them leave a message if I didn't answer. She said he does do a plication but just a small one in the back of the stomach.

Rn Scared Me Today!
She's a nurse, she is well within her scope of practice. You are supposed to be informed of the risk involved in the procedure. Its a matter of office procedure if the doctor or nurse talk to about the details. Don't forget a NURSE will be the one standing with you when you wake up,the nurse is the one doing the observing. Nurse's are the best! (my wife, mother, and cousin are all nurses)

The Grass Isn't Greener On The Gastric Bypass Side
I read this story with my wife, it's amazing to read about your success. My father-in-law had a bypass in 1997 he has lost close to 200 lbs, but he also suffers from all the the things the bypass can give you... Dumping syndrome, deficiencies in iron, calcium, b-12. His sister in law had it done and shares the same success as your friends. Surprisingly my cousin who is also a nurse recently chose the bypass and has done very well (I said surprisingly because being a medical professional I thought the cons to the bypass would have moved her toward the band) anyway she's already made herself available to help me and hasn't said a word about my WLS choice and that's very cool.

Did You Keep Your Surgery A Secret?
(My thoughts regarding people who are close too you that come off negative) When people go to a extreme measure to better themselves, sometimes loved ones may feel left behind, or intimated by the new you that will soon be. They may have insecurities that have in some way latched onto yours and now that your moving on, it has left them more exposed. I think it's important to see the "loved ones" negative response for what it is. If needed talk to them about it, call them out and let them know you will still be you. Think about it... If your a lady...and you and your sister always traded outfits together and now your going to be too small to trade it may make her feel left behind, not because of the clothes but it is a tanagable difference that can no longer be shared. If my brother and I both get winded after walking down range to setup targets and now I'm not... It's sorta a slap in his face. If my wife and I were always big together and now I'm fit and trim she may worry that I won't find her attractive anymore. (that won't happen baby) one of the post in the (men's room) mentioned his hunting buddy gives him a hard time because he can't eat his deer steaks anymore... Its possible he really enjoyed preparing them to share with you and now because of your band you have to refuse, it may hurt his feelings so because he's a dude he just returns fire.. anyway it not always just your change.

Did You Keep Your Surgery A Secret?
For me it was easy to tell the people around me, my wife, mom and cousin are all nurses another cousin is a surgeon I work in the medical field and in a hospital. The people in my clinic are all rather close even the ones I don't much care for are all wishing me the best. My friend actually was the one who talked me into it and has paid for a large portion of my co-pay. With out his support this would never have happened. He said its a selfish thing he's doing... He just wants his buddy to be around when he's in his 60's.

Did You Keep Your Surgery A Secret?
I thought it would be fun to keep it a secret, but I can't keep my mouth shut. Good thing I'm not a criminal mastermind... Although I normally kept my past diets a secret so I could avoid all accountability, and so I could fail in secret too. This deal is different and I know I will need the support of all my friends family and co-workers.

And Another Guy Has Just Entered The Forum.
Wow my Lap Band journey is moving very fast! Went to a seminar late May, earlyJune I had my first appointment with my surgeon, late June my insurance approved the procedure (without any prerequisites) had my upper GI the first week of July, Nutrisionist a week ago and scheduled the surgery yesterday. I'm very excited its scheduled for Augest 30th that's a Thursday and the following Monday is Labor Day for me thats a free day off...So I'm just going to need to use two days for my surguery. Now it's just 33 days until my 10 day starts... My beautiful wife is going to change her eating habits with me too! We are going to start reeling in the calories and caffeine starting yesterday. I'm very excited.

Testosterone Boost
My thoughts are the less fat we carry the less estrogen we will have in our system, less estrogen = more man like feelings and less interference with our body's ability to deliver testosterone. Also recent study's have shown that zinc and magnesium help increase testosterone , the study showed that people that added exercise with the zinc and magnesium had larger increase compared to people that only took the supplements.

Testosterone Boost
Excessive fat produces estrogen, that is to say fat cells can and do produce estrogen. Estrogen will bind to testosterone receptors in the brain that signal for the body to produce more testosterone, when estrogen binds to the testosterone receptor it does not activate that receptor. Thus leading to low T and high E. From what I have read men with symptoms of low T but test normal may actually have high E levels.
