Using the restroom

Recommended Posts

I have been reading on here since I got approved , and I never read how hard it is to go to restroom , I am post op one day far , and I feel like I pee like a old man , stop and go , is there a reason for it or am I the only one who is having that problem

No.. I did not experience that problem. Surgery seems to do strage things to people tho. Hang in there, I'd guess it will subside. Best of luck to you on your journey!

I had so much trouble peeing after surgery they weren't going to let me check out of the hospital. They even gave me a bag of fluids, did an ultrasound on my bladder, and whatever else, and zip - nada. i just didn't feel like I could go. Eventually things progressed, and I was back to normal within a few days. The best anyone could tell me for the reason behind it was that the anaesthetic used during surgery can screw with the bladder muscles, and your "urge" to go. Once the anaesthetic has fully worn off after a few days, things will get back to normal. Hang in there. Within a short time you'll be working like you used to.

Good luck!

Dave

This is normal. They put a catheter in you and combined with anesthesia, you strength of flow is diminshed. It will be normal in a few days! Some people dont notice the difference!

It didn't have any major issues immediately post-op, although I did noticed a little decreased flow. Then about 2 month later, just like you stated... felt like and old man trying to go and a little burning sensation. Figured it was a little dehydration... increase fluids no help.... then started feeling really constipated and everything I tried didn't work. Turned out to be a UTI.... a couple of days of AZO and everything was back to normal.

I had the same issue post op for the first day or two. I realized that I use stomach muscles to push and that didn't work out so well. Pushing just shut it down. What I figured out was if I sat down it was lots easier and I could just go. No pushing required. Couple days later and I was back to peeing like a man.

Not for me, they allowed me to get up and use the toilet right before surgery. I believe its all the meds to put you to sleep for surgery and any pain meds for post op that could have "tweaked" your release system. SIp your Water and get in those 64oz or so each day. You should pee like a faucet.

I'm interested now if how many people get a cath verses not... I think I'll ask over in the pre-op area. :)

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
