North Chicky, I'm looking into going to Dr. Illan as well. Just now started my researching. If I don't go with him then its going to be with Dr. Garcia. But, I will more than likely be going in late August or September! Maybe I can get a date close to yours!

Anyone want to add any info on Dr. Illan that they would like to share? I'm looking into possibly having my surgery with him. It will more than likely be him or Dr. Garcia. I thought I had my mind made up but then I was messaged about Dr. Illan having the special on the gastric sleeve, and I'm struggling to come up with the money. Any little bit helps, right??? I just feel like I'm going back to square one with the researching yet once again.

I'm used to hearing this stuff from him so I kind of let it go through one ear and out the other. It doesn't hurt my feelings because its just how he is lol I'm going to Mexico and he won't be told about it until after the fact.

No, I never asked for his opinion.... He tells me all the time how he feels about it Lol he's on a diet and has lost about 40 pounds so far so he feels this surgery isn't necessary for me. I feel it is. No matter what I say, I will never be able to change his mind. This is a guy I've been seeing for a couple if years btw. I completely stopped talking to my family about it. All they want to do is talk about how dangerous they think it is to travel there and how the Mexican drug cartel is bad down there. Every little thing to scare the crap out of me! Lol

I don't believe Dr. Garcia is a part of the FACS or ASMBS... I could be wrong though. I think I asked Alma about this a few months back and she said that he is applying to be a member, whether or not he is at the moment, I'm not quite sure. But I agree, being a member of both is definitely reassuring.

I live in Texas and I looked into Dr. Alvarez as well. He's closer to me, has a great reputation and he communicates with his patients all the time- which I love! I also loved how he has an annual reunion! I would love to meet up once a year and reunite with fellow sleevers, but once again the money issue. So, I researched some more and came across Dr. Aceves, who is about the same price as Alvarez. They offered the payment plan, so I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to go to a great doctor AND be able to afford it! And then my car breaks down. Realistically I need to save as much money as I can so I can replace it. So, I'm back to looking at surgeons in the 5,000 price range again.
