Well, I weigh about the same as you do and what a surgeon explained to me was that they are seeing significant weight loss with the sleeve alone without having to do the bypass. He said bypass is mainly for people that have larger amounts to lose. If we can get there with the sleeve then why get the bypass? See what I mean. He told me the sleeve was number one choice for me, but if I had diabetes then bypass would be for me. If you don't have any other health issues, I would go with the sleeve!

This has been such a looong process for me. I started researching surgeons about 2 years ago and almost went. I had my passport and almost all the money saved up, but talked myself out of it. I'm scared to death to have surgery in another country. I figured that I would try again to just lose it on my own. Which I haven't. Sooo, I'm going next month regardless of how scared I am about it. I feel that it needs to be done and financially, Mexico is the only place that I will be able to make that happen. I think it's quite sad that I have insurance here but it doesn't cover bariatric surgery. I'm still undecided on the surgeon... I go back and forth on it. I have a small child and want to make it back alive lol I have talked with several surgeons and coordinators over the years. Mainly Alma with Ready4achange and Omar (Dr. Illans coordinator) I need to hurry and make up my mind and get it done! Any suggestions?

Here lately I have heard so many negative reviews on Mexico Bariatric and their coordinators. Of course I didn't use them so... I would just be cautious using this company. I kind of feel that if the doctor knew you had a low blood count before the surgery and allowed you to go on to TJ, then told you they couldn't do the surgery. That's not your fault. I think you should be entitled to some money back.

Thanks everyone! I just need to do it. I can continue living my life this way and continue to be depressed or I can take the risk and lose the weight. I'm going to be a nervous wreck, but I know in my heart that I can't just diet and keep it off. My family gets mad when I say that like I'm being lazy and taking the easy way out they say. They just don't understand. It's not easy, it a constant struggle that I can't deal with any longer.

I have an intense fear of complications from having this surgery. At times I feel certain that its what I want to do, but then I will read a surgery gone wrong story and think that will be me. Here lately I have been keeping myself up at night wondering if I am making the right decision, worrying about all the things that could go wrong. Is it really a gamble? Forgive me, I'm just petrified and almost have myself talked into trying another diet for the 100th time and not having the surgery. What did you do to calm your nerves? How did you get over the anxiety of possibly having a complication or even death?

Good luck! I also don't care much for protein shakes, but I heard Premiere protein shakes were very good have you tried those yet?

Illan is out of Florence hospital but you stay at Lucerna hotel- and I think so do Aceves patients but he actually does surgery in Mexicali. Dr. Garcia also works out of Florence but his patients stay at the Marriott hotel.

And Omar is absolutely wonderful! Express your concerns to him and they will do whatever to make you and your Dad feel more at ease. I've pestered Omar to death with all of my anxiety and worries... Lol

I read through some of your posts... You're going with Dr. Illan?! he will actually Skype with you! So your Dad can see him on the computer and talk with him!

What exactly causes a PE? Isn't it from a blood clot that you already may have then it travels to your lung after surgery? I'm worrying about this :/ how do we prevent it or is it just like Russian roulette?

I can see her wanting to reach out to a former patient and wanting to be comforted a little, especially when she's feeling like darting out the hospital doors. I'm going alone and my family doesn't support this decision at all. The only people I have supporting me are people I meet off of this forum. It's sad but true. If I was to feel the way she did, I would possibly want to talk to someone off of here as well to calm my nerves.
