  1. I've been eating apple sauce since i was in the hospital. They told me to take my nexium with it. OP I'm the same as you, if my carbs are too low then I start to feel very faint and break out into a cold sweat. Some people are able to do very low carb 10g or less and I can't. Yesterday I had about 47g of carbs and I tend to feel good around that level. My NUT says to eat protein first and to eat a well balanced diet of carbs, fats, and protein.
  2. I've been eating soft foods since 6 days post op. Some consider it cheating but Protein shakes were making my side hurt. I just chew my food up very well and haven't had any problems. I eat 1 egg for Breakfast and focus on eating protein first. I'm getting in about 400-600 cals a day. My food didn't hurt when it went down and I haven't had any pain.
  3. I wasn't even worried about the free surgery because I would donate my excess skin even if I had to pay full price for the surgery. I figure they are going to throw it away anyways, so if they can put it to good use then that would be great.
  4. Ashley-I'm so sorry to hear that. I will keep you in my prayers and hope that you feel better soon.
  5. The deciding factor for me when I had to choose between RNY or the sleeve, was the pyloric valve. With the RNY they have a man made stoma that can stretch and food can become stuck if not chewed to a puree, plus the stoma can stretch out if you overeat too often. I don't trust the man made stoma because it can never mimic what the natural pyloric valve could. Also I don't want to deal with dumping and hyperglycemia. Plus having to take tons of vitamins is not something I want to deal with for the rest of my life. Malabsorption doesn't sound appealing at all to me. Good Luck with your decision.
  6. I would definitely donate my excess skin if I were given the choice.
  7. I drink whole milk and haven't had any problems. I plan to buy skim milk or 1% milk when I go grocery shopping again. I haven't had any problems with milk
  8. I'm breastfeeding so I have to make sure I get in the protein and calories or else I start to feel very lethargic.
  9. My blood work is fine also and I'm cold. My husband said that I'm burning up the house because I turned the heat up to 76 degrees instead of the normal 74. I used to sleep with only a thin sheet over me and the fan blowing on me. NOW I sleep buried under the comforter and snuggled up against my husband so that he can keep me warm. I used to always be hot and sweaty but not now. I'm so happy not to be sweaty like I used to be.
  10. Muscle milk is the only protein shake that I will drink. I buy it in powder form because the pre-made drinks tend to taste different and not as good. They also have a light version and it's very good also. I buy the regular MM and add 1 scoop to 8 oz of milk. It's by far the best tasting protein shake I've ever tasted and I've tasted several different kinds.
  11. I don't own a scale but sometimes I do want to know the number but I figured this is less stressful than obsessing over every single pound lost or temporarily gained.
  12. I wish I could drink 12 oz at a time. I'm breastfeeding and can only get in small amounts of fluid at a time and I miss being able to drink 15 oz of water in 5 mins. I also have to wake up and drink water at night to get in more fluids :/
  13. Are you able to drink 12 oz at a time? I was able to drink 1 cup of water in a hour but when I tried to do it again I was only able to drink about 1/2 cup in a hour. I've been able to eat eggs cooked with cheese and ham (lunch meat) and haven't had any problems. It took me all day to eat 2 scrambled eggs. I'm definitely feeling the restriction. I can't drink anymore protein shakes because they make the left side of my stomach hurt. It's getting easier to get my fluids in but I can only sip or take small gulps and then wait a minute or two before drinking more.
  14. I was sleeved the same day as you but I haven't experienced the pain that you speak of. I'm praying that you will feel better soon.
  15. I'm not a doctor but I was prescribed dilaudid for my ovarian cyst pain and eventually the dilaudid is what kept me from passing gas and was in fact causing my pain. Dilaudid also gave me severe constipation which caused me pain in my stomach and eventually the pain got so bad that I wasn't able to walk and had to be pushed around in a wheel chair. I also had a lot of pain when standing. Those meds made it to where I couldn't fart, burp, and poop. I had lots of gas built up in my stomach that I couldn't get out. Don't get me wrong pain meds are very helpful but in a lot of people they tend to cause more issues than they solve. The only way for me to get back to normal after taking too many pain pills, was to stop taking them. Yes it will be uncomfortable for a day or 2 but once your digestive tract starts working again, you will feel better. Pain meds tend to screw up the way your body gets rid of gas and the way it functions. Also when I was taking lots of dilaudid I eventually couldn't eat or drink anything, I would vomit and became dehydrated. Like I said earlier I'm not a doctor and I don't work in the medical field so I'm only able to offer you advice on what I've experienced and it's that pain meds tend to cause more problems than they solve when used for too long. I hope you feel better soon. ETA: My docs were able to figure out that it was the dilaudid causing me problems because when they listened to my stomach they couldn't hear anything. There were no digestion or gas sounds in there. My doc told me to stop the pain meds and to take glycolax to soften my stool and to get my digestive tract moving again. Once I was able to poop, I started burping and passing the gas that had been trapped for so long. I've never looked at pain meds the same ever since.
  16. The first few days after surgery I had buyers remorse and I even contemplated asking my surgeon to put my stomach back together lol I blame that irrational thought on the morphine that was making me loopy. Around day 4 I was so happy that I had the sleeve. The transition from surgery sucks because you go in feeling great and then you leave feeling like crap and of course it's natural to want to go back to feeling better and I think that's what my problem was. Also when I was puking my brains out I definitely thought "wtf was I thinking". Puking sucks and barely being able to drink anything sucked and I thought I had screwed my body up but thankfully I feel great now and have zero regrets
  17. I'm finding it easier to get in my fluids and it's not taking me hours to drink drink 1 cup of water. All the glue in my belly button is starting to get flaky and I'm hoping next week the surgeon will remove it but I'm pretty sure it will fall out on its own before then. I've lost about 12 lbs from my highest but unfortunately I don't have a home scale and have to go by what the doc scale says.
  18. I had the paragard for 3 yrs and the same thing happened to me and plus it caused me to gain weight. I was allergic to the copper and my body was fighting that foreign object. I gained about 50 lbs on depo. Thankfully my husband got snipped in August and I haven't been on birth control since July.
  19. Minkywinky is what I call my husband and esposa is spanish and it means wife. I'm minkywinkys wife Gosh I just now noticed that I forgot the y in my username :/
  20. I'm praying it will help my skin. I never had skin problems until I moved to Colorado and now we live at 6000 ft elevation and it's so dry here. It would be nice if this surgery did end up heping it.
  21. LOL at the thread title *sorry I have a dirty mind* By day 3 post op I felt back to normal and now that I'm a week out I have zero pain and my incision doesn't hurt. I have 3 kiddos and have been able to do everything for them that I was doing before.
  22. More than likely you were given some meds to help take the edge off. I was also given meds to take the edge off but I guess I was so anxious that it only took me down to the point where I didn't care and wasn't scared but I still felt very alert and aware of my surroundings. I remember waiting for what seemed 30 mins after they administered the relaxing meds. Finally they came to wheel me to the OR and I remember it being so cold that I was shivering and asking questions about why they keep the temp so low. I told them all about my period yada yada lol. I remember them having me scoot onto the OR table. They asked if they could strap my arms and I hesitated but said yeah. They asked if I was claustrophobic and sure enough I am so they decided to wait until I was knocked out. Next thing I remember is the anesthesiologist putting the mask on my face and telling me to breath deeply. I hate any type of mask on my face but I kept breathing deep and then I felt cold air coming through it after a couple of breaths. He told me to think about the beach and I did, fell asleep after 2 deep breaths of the cold air in the breathing mask. I had about 6 breaths total before I fell asleep. Next thing I remember is waking up in recovery in excruciating pain. I was in so much pain that I couldn't even cry. I have a very high pain tolerance, I don't give birth with pain meds and I had a homebirth with my 3rd kiddo. My friends are amazed that I remember being wheeled back to the OR but supposedly it's pretty rare. I did have a panic attack before they gave me the relaxing meds. My hands and forearm started going numb. I was a total wreck lol it was my very first surgery and I didn't know what to expect
  23. You will be fine. Sending prayers your way
  24. It's so weird how quickly the body bounces back from surgery. My single incision no longer hurts and I've been sleeping a little better. I still have the annoying cough and it's been making it hard to fall asleep but I just make sure to use the humidifier. I have no idea if I've lost weight but I may consider buying a scale on the 15th (payday). I keep waking up during the night with cramps in my tummy. I guess I need to try and eat a little bit more before bed so that my stomach has something to digest. Also drinking water makes my stomach cramp but I'm gonna continue trying to work water into my diet because I hate juice. I'm eating some greek yogurt right now trying to see if this will help me sleep better. Did anyone get thrush from all the meds? My tongue was so white but I've dealt with it before because steroids tend to make me get thrush also. Yogurt cures it for me, thank goodness.
  25. I'm 5 days post op and it takes me almost 2 hrs to drink a whole 8oz protein shake. Last night I drank a 10 oz campbells cream chicken soup and it was cold by the time I finished. It took me about 2.5 hrs to drink it all. it seems like you wont have any problems getting in your fluids
