Has anyone had a baby before a year post op
I agree that you should wait. I know I definitely am not taking in enough nutrients for one, let alone two, yet and I'm about as far out as you. I know it's hard when you want one so bad and the husband is on you too (my husband is really on me right now - we miscarried right before surgery). I keep telling my husband that we have to wait because as much as it hurts to wait, it'd hurt more to lose another because my body can't sustain a pregnancy or to give birth to an unhealthy baby. The time really will pass before you know it and right now just concentrate on making a healthy nest for your baby to grow :-)

Important Please Help!
As your surgeon again but if they say no, you should be fine. I was supposed to do a liquid diet but I struggled with it due to migraine problems. In the end I was pretty much taken off of it and my surgery was textbook. It all depends on your body (low bmi vs high bmi), your health, and your surgeon. My cousin just had the same surgery and was on a 2-3 week liquid only diet and followed to the tee and still had problems with her liver being to hard (she used to be a heavy drinker so I'm sure that played a part) but they were able to do her surgery regardless - just took longer. Don't worry :-)

Catching Up - 1 Week Post Op!
Yep, it's been a while... a crazy month but here I am... almost a month since my last post and a full week post-op! So, I'm going to try to give the short version of my month because I'll be up typing all night if I don't (it's currently midnight!). In my last blog, I believe everything had just been submitted... I got denied twice! Yep you read it right... twice! I guess those idiots didn't know who they were saying no to! They tried to tell me that I wasn't sick enough and that I didn't do my nutrition... blah blah blah... at one point I actually cited Maryland law which requires them to cover the procedure based on my issues . I am known as the queen of arguing but they didn't know that... neither did the chic from my doc's office that kept givin me the run around til I emailed her boss LOL. Long story short... I was sleeved on the 16th even with two denials! So... after my approval... I tried to do my pre-op diet... really I did, but I had less than two weeks between approval and surgery and I seriously worked over 80 hours a week to make sure everything I was responsible for was done before I went out and the stress of that combined with no food caused major migraines so I ate. I ate significantly less, but I ate. One week to the day before surgery, I had a miscarriage... I didn't know I was pregnant until I lost it (I have an IUD so this was not supposed to happen)... I also didn't know you could mourn a child you didn't know you were pregnant with (I learned several things that week)... A visit to the ER explained that my IUD slipped out (it's in but out so not providing protection which is how I got pregnant) and I have a major fibroid . The miscarriage only caused minor problems with my sugery (the anesthesiologist refused to move forward due to my positive preg test from the week prior even after I explained the miscarriage - the staff OB/GYN cleared me for surgery and we moved on). I was terribly stressed prior to surgery due to some of the things people have posted on here... I cried all through pre-surg prep b/c of this. Apparently my surgery was text book despite my having failed miserably at the pre-op diet... do not use this as your idicator though... I believe I got lucky (God feeling I've had a bad enough month)... I did not get a pain pump post-op and the first nurse was being stingy with drugs. Also, my body does not like to pee after anesthesia so I could not go without pushing which was not fun... especially with limited pain meds. I also kept getting horrible hiccups that made me want to die but I survived the night. I didn't sleep much yet the time passed. I left the hospital the next day around 3 p.m. My post-op diet involved 2 days of clears and now I'm on full liquids. I've been healing well so I'm tolerating shakes, yogurt, soups, and I'm hungry pretty quick. From posting and reading, I know this is normal but that doesn't make it suck any less . As for the TMI section of this... farting post op was really hard to do! It really helped to walk to move the gas and to get on all fours if it wouldn't pass (sounds weird but I found this on google when it was hurting bad and it worked LOL). I'm a week out and I still haven't done anything beyond pee in the toilet... tonight I drank a laxative tea and am hoping it works... I know I'm putting stuff in there but I'm wondering what's happening to it . Last thing and I'm signing off... It's 12:20 now so I'm doing awesome! I know I've lost weight... I've weighed myself and I've already seen one physical change. I have my first official post op appointment tomorrow though so I'm going to wait until then to update my weight on here so stay tuned. I'm also hoping to get to move on to mushies early tomorrow since I'm starving and tolerating things so well (he said it was a possibility before the sugery). Good night fellow sleevers and those lurking as I once was .

Day 26 Post Op
Hi, I haven't been sleeved yet but in prep I've checked out a few books from the library to be familiar with what I can and can't eat post sleeve. Maybe you could do that. Another option is purchasing them on Amazon if you cant find any at the library. My favorite book that I borrowed from the library was Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery: Over 140 Delicious Low-Fat High-Protein Recipes to Enjoy... by Patt Levine. If you do a search you'll find a ton. There's also a food and nutrition section on here that might help and I know some fail safes are eggs, tuna, ground meat, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, sugar free pudding with protein powder mixed in, the dreaded shakes, and most seafoods. Hope that helps some :-)

So Here I Am
So here I am… I’m finally getting around to starting my blog on here after lurking for a few weeks… commenting on a few posts and making a few new friends (virtual ones if nothing else). We all have a story right? How’d we get here? I got here courtesy of an angry failed (I guess you could call it the black sheep of the family) thyroid and a b!tchy thin doctor who told me I just needed to eat less and walk more as I packed on weight (my underactive thyroid was discovered YEARS later by another doctor when I’d finally given up – she was reviewing the old lab results). It’s been almost 7 years since it started failing and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t still bitter… I’ve gained somewhere between 80 and 100 pounds since then. I’ve lost as much as 50 of it and gained back nearly all that I’ve lost. About two years ago my doctor told me to have surgery (she had Lap Band in Mexico before it was approved in the US) and I joined Weight Watchers instead… I was convinced I could beat my thyroid if I just worked hard enough… I worked hard for my less than a pound a week losses only to find that when I stopped WW I gained it all back! Last year the same doc told me that at 29 years old, I was prediabetic , prehyperlipidemia, and that pain I was having was degenerative joint disease because of my weight and I had to lose weight immediately… Less than 10 years before that I was in the military! Needless to say I dieted a ton after that and regained everything immediately when I stopped… This past winter I was doing a couch to 5K program (not losing weight though LOL) when I contracted pneumonia which was not a fun mix with my asthma. After the pneumonia was gone my asthma became severe and the steroids to keep me alive caused even more weight gain. As my medicine cabinet became more and more full between the asthma and other conditions I realized I can’t keep going like this and my doc was right two years ago – If I’m going to get to and maintain a healthy weight I need to have surgery and if I’m going to see my daughters become adults, I need to get healthy…. So that said, here I am. I’ve done everything and now I’m waiting on the insurance company and a date. I’m here for support and to be someone’s support. In my life I’m strong for everyone and I always have been and the downfall of that is that for the first time I need people being strong with me and for me and I don’t have that.

1 Month W/ Pics
I'm sorry about your grandmother but I'm so happy for you otherwise. Looking at your pic you started about where I'm starting and I'm really happy to see the sleeve working for you - even if it is in a shock collar kinda way which sometimes is what we need. I haven't been sleeved yet but I hope that when I am, I can be as successful as you.

Dissent
Hi! I totally agree with you about the plastic surgery being more acceptable! Sad isn't it? I've told tons of people about my plans to get a tummy tuck a few years down the road since my child bearing years weren't so nice to me and no one looks down on me but I know that it will be different if I tell them I'm having WLS. I'm totally going to look into Vi... as for something less heavy... I found that the one Wal-Mart sells called Body Fortress... you mix it with water and it tastes pretty good and it's thin - maybe good for post surgery :-)

Feel Like I Just Got My Rubber Stamp!
That's awesome Ledavis! I'm tired all the time but just figured it was my asthma, the weight, and all my other health problems. I'm looking forward to feeling rested for once

Feel Like I Just Got My Rubber Stamp!
Yes, I go back on Tuesday evening for another "study" with the CPAP to get the settings right and make sure it's not going to cause problems with my asthma and then I get my machine. The doctor told me that with my planned surgery in October, I should be able to be off of the machine within 12 months if I lose weight as planned.

Feel Like I Just Got My Rubber Stamp!
So I've blogged about this a few times, but I have several other more severe comorbidities that apparently may or may not count for Cigna, but I just got the results of my sleep study and I do have Obstructive Sleep Apnea which is apparently my rubber stamp! It's really funny because I know the long term effects of OSA but it's still the least of my worries due to my other problems so I'm seriously ready to jump up and down (if it weren't for the horrible asthma attack that would follow LOL) . Now I just have two more months of nutrition and October here I come!

New Scale Third Weigh In
Congrats on your loss! Any loss is an achievement in my book :-) I'm with you on the shopping thing... I've become the biggest shoe collector since I gained weight... funny thing is right now I can't wear anything but flats and tennis shoes b/c of foot damage caused by my heels but I'm already purchasing new ones for when my foot gets better LOL. I'm sorry to hear that your SO is not being supportive. That's one of my biggest fears. My husband says that he will but I know he likes me heavier and I wonder what will happen when I really start to lose. Maybe you can talk to him some time (not around a meal) and let him know that his support is important and it hurts you that he makes those comments when you are trying to get healthy... Either way - good luck and keep your head up. HUGS!

Sleep Study Done... And The Waiting Begins...
Per the surgeon I had my sleep study last night to see if I have apnea... I already have my comorbidity but this will rubber stamp it with the insurance just in case and apparently needs to be treated prior to surgery anyway. The study wasn't nearly as bad as I expected... I didn't sleep much the night before so I was asleep about 15 minutes after I hit the bed but I woke up about 4 times that I'm aware of and apparently a bunch more times that I was unaware of according to the tech. She said my REM was extremely brief because I kept waking up and going right back to sleep. I'm waiting on my official results but from everything I've read today, it looks like I probably do have apnea. Ah well... one more thing to add to the list . I meet with my surgeon again on the 6th to see where we go from here... and I have my first of 3 nutrition classes tomorrow evening. I'm still shooting for being banded in October unless told otherwise on the 6th. That will give me enough time to recover and be some form of "normal" before my kids' birthdays in late December/early January when I have to be in full blown super mom mode. Speaking of kids... I just want to say how awesome my girls are... My oldest daughter (she's 11) and I have talked a lot about this surgery and I'm glad to have her and her sister. I know that when I'm recovering she'll be my biggest helper and if I'm struggling with choices she'll be my biggest promoter. On the asthma front things are still rough but I'm figuring as long as I go to sleep and wake up it's still an ok day I guess. This whole thing is really frustrating because most asthma is not like this so I feel like no one understands... The Prednisone that they put me on has helped some but is making me a complete and a and my husband doesn't quite understand. The result is we're barely talking and right now I need him most. It hurts because I'm going through so much and I feel so alone. I feel like 2012 was supposed to finally be my year after having too many bad ones and it's all falling apart at once... Back to the regular doc tonight to discuss my asthma again... I've got some ideas that I want to try on the meds since I've made some improvement but I'm still having several bad attacks a week. We'll see what she says... If what I'm thinking works, I'll start to feel a whole lot better and will not be adding any meds - just swapping two for two different ones and maybe even cutting one of my copays.
