Travel After Surgery
I went on vacation 3 weeks to the day after my surgery and while it was a little hard for me not to be able to eat all the things that my family was indulging in, there were still plenty of things I COULD eat since I was making the switch to soft foods. I was still a little week and got tired faster than I expected to, but I still had a great time.

Had A Hiatal And Umbilical Hernia Done At The Same Time
Wow! My road was a bit more rough, but finally at about 11 weeks out I can say I'm starting to feel a lot better. I still don't have the energy that I expected, but hopefully that will get better too.

Had A Hiatal And Umbilical Hernia Done At The Same Time
That sounds painful! How are you doing? I had a hiatal hernia fixed at the same time, but from what I'm learning that is pretty common...

Will I Lose My Butt?
I'm starting to lose mine. The ONE part I didn't want to lose a lot of weight in. :/

Leaks
I'm 5 weeks post-op and feeling pretty good now too, but I'm deathly afraid of a leak too! I also would like to know what to look for! Thanks in advance, Sleevers.

Almost 3 Weeks Post Op And Very Depressed.......
I know exactly how you feel. I was the exact same way, crying all the time, miserable, and mourning my "old" life. I was such a wreck at 2-3 weeks out that I had to find a local support group where I could go and talk to people in person to make sure that it all was really going to pass and see how they looked further along in the process. I literally thought I was losing my mind. It was the best thing I could have ever done! They were so supportive (not that everyone here isn't the exact same way) but for me personally, it helped to literally have the pats on the back and the reassurance that it will pass and be feeling better than ever in a few weeks. They were right. I'm 1000 times better than I was 3 weeks ago. Hang in there, it gets better.

Was Anyone Else Sleeved In Sunny Santa Barbara, Ca?
Hi! My husband and I just got back from vacationing in Pismo Beach/Morro Bay 3 days ago! It's so beautiful there, especially when it's 105 here in the Valley. I was just sleeved on 6/14, looks like you're in the home stretch. How long has it been for you?

Was Anyone Else Sleeved In Sunny Santa Barbara, Ca?
Hey Sleevers, I live in Bakersfield, but had my surgery in Santa Barbara, CA. Did anyone else?

Insulin Pump Settings
Hey Audrey, I also have Adult Onset Type 1. So much fun, isn't it? I had the sleeve before trying to start with the pump so I'm not much help on settings and such, but my endo is the one who suggested this surgery and gave me list of how to take my insulin before the surgery and after in the different stages of feeding (liquid, mushies, soft, etc...) I'm 5 weeks out and I will say the results so far have been amazing! I went from taking between 60-90 units of insulin a day total to about 2 units every other day. Now that I'm eating more solids, I'm just taking a nightly dose of 6 units of Lantus and it's keeping my blood sugars stable all day. This is surgery is truly a miracle! Good luck! P.S. I've never met another Adult Onset Type 1...apparently we are pretty rare! Nice to meet you!

How Many Of You Still Drink With Your Meals?
Oh WOW!! This is something that I've been pretty stubborn about thinking, "It's just water". What a visual!! I'm going to do my best to stop eating and drinking together and for 30 minutes after. Thank you so much for posting that video!

Anyone Ever Lost Friends After Knowing You Were Getting The Surgery?
Quite honestly, I've only told the people closest to me that I KNEW would be supportive that I had this surgery. As for the rest...hate on haters.

Two months post op today!!!
That's so awesome!! I'm glad to hear you're doing so well at 8 weeks out! I noticed you mentioned that you have a thyroid disorder too, so I have a quick question. I had thyroid cancer 8 years ago (everything is good and I'm still cancer free) so I don't have a thyroid anymore. Do you take daily thyroid medication? If so, how are you taking it? My surgeon said that I can not take any whole pills until I am about 3 months out and wants me to crush everything and take it but OMG. It's so yuck. Most days I don't get my whole dose down because it's just so nasty. I recently started mixing it crushed up in Sugar Free Cool Whip which is ok, but still not ideal. Any suggestions?

Sorry About The "tmi" Question....
I'm in the same boat as sil222. I was constipated for almost 2 weeks after surgery. It was horrible. My surgeon suggested taking fiber so I started taking the gummies every other day and that did the trick!

5 Days Out, Terrible Insonmnia
I'm 5 weeks out and I've always had an insomnia problem. I regularly took Lunesta before surgery which was awesome. Since surgery, my doctor said I should not take it and suggested crushing up Melotonin and mixing it with a little Sugar Free Cool Whip and taking it about 30 minutes before bedtime. It worked like magic, but I found that on the nights I take it, I usually need a mid-day nap the next day. Maybe I'm taking a little too much...BUT it's nice to sleep through the night on the nights I take it.

Almost 3 Weeks Out, Things Aren't Great.
I'm 5 weeks out and still am not getting hungry either. Instead of hunger, I get this weird almost burning feeling when my stomach is completely empty. It can usually be calmed with a Tums and a few sips of water, but I know I need some nutrients in there too. It's so strange to me to be so aware of when my stomach is full and empty...that's something new I'm going to have to learn to figure out.

Recovery Time
I had my sleeve on June 14th and am also a teacher. Personally, knowing what the first few weeks of school are like there is NO way I could have gone to work 8 days after surgery. I'm just now starting to feel well enough to be out and about for longer than a couple of hours at a time. Do what you have to to take care of yourself, even if it means a little extra time off. Your students and your body will appreciate it!

13 Days Postop And I Have A Drinking Problem...lol
I had the exact same problem. I hated drinking so much that I became dehydrated twice. I'm four weeks out now and water finally goes down nicely now! It gets better. Hang in there!

Sore Boobs?
I sure hope someone has an answer for this because I've been the same way and I'm 25 days out.

A Tmi Question
You'll be fine. I started my period the morning of my surgery and the pre-op nurse just told me I couldn't use a tampon and she gave me these super sexy disposable panties and a huge pad. Lol! Good luck!
-
What Calcium Are You Taking?
I take Tums too. My surgeon said they're duel purpose...calcium and heartburn!

My First Emotional Breakdown
I'm a little over 3 weeks out and just had another major break down yesterday. Before surgery, I didn't realize how much of my life revolved around food. Breakfast with my Dad, lunch with my girlfriends, dinner with my husband...I don't know if I miss the food as much as I miss the social aspect of it all. Of course I could still go, but I'm still not feeling great from surgery and it's hard to have anything other then soup and eggs off a menu right now. I went to a Bariatric Support group last week and the ladies there assured me that it gets better. My fingers are crossed!

Protein Supplement Ideas!
I need one of those pills too! If you find one let me know. I'm sure it has at least a little...it's meat, right? I sucked on one Reese's Pieces until it dissolved last night telling myself the same thing, peanut butter has protein. LOL

Protein Supplement Ideas!
Really? I have the Alpine Punch and I kind of water it down and put ice in it too...after that it reminds me of Crystal Light Fruit Punch.
