As you can read though Marie, there is no one answer for everyone. No one can tell you exactly how you will do with your surgery. Unfortunately it is not an exact science as everyone's body is different....................

I have been buying Starbuck's Tall Skinny iced lattes for several months at 3.25 per drink! Yesterday when I went to the Bariatric Advantage place to pick up some Vitamins, she gave me a sample bottle of a product they now sell called ProJoe. This is a bottled latte drink you refrigerate and pour over ice. I had the Magnifico Mocha, but on the product list she gave me, it looks like it also comes in a vanilla or chai. If you roder it from them, THERE IS NEVER ANY SHIPPING on it. Even if you order it with other products, the entire order has free shipping. The price is case of 12 for 35.95, which may sound high, but 12 of the Starbuck's drinks still come to $39.00. And adds 20g to my protein! The bottle is:
    9.5 oz.
    20g Protein
    120 cal
    5g carbs
    0g fat
    3,5g sugar
It was really good. I don't think it is available yet on their website, but you can order by phone at 800-898-6888. Like I said, there facility isn't far from me so i went there yesterday and set up and account and got all my vitamins. They are very nice too. YAY!

As an alternate though....you might want to make sure what you're experiencing isn't acid reflux. Even if you're on one medication for acid, you may find yourself having "breakthrough" reflux. I came home from the hospital on liquid Zantac, and started having breakthrough reflux around 3 weeks post-op. My surgeon added a daily Prevacid solutab, and problem solved!! Many people experience acid reflux after surgery, and the sensation is very like that of "hunger". Best of luck to you!!

This used to happen to me as well, especially after working a 12hr night shift. I found if I eat Protein (usually a protein shake) an hour or 2 before bed then I don't wake up starving 6-8hrs later. I know that it's controversial to eat within 2hrs of sleep but I found that my body needed the protein to sustain me. Hope this helps.

Sliders are neither good nor bad - they just are. Most people focus on the bad sliders such as chips and twinkies (generally because the realization of their existence happens when we're early post-op) but there are many good foods that are also sliders - many essential veg, fruits, grains and nuts have a slider quality to them. I would never be able to get in anywhere near enough nutrition or calories to maintain a stable long term weight. The firm, dense meat type Proteins are still restricted to around 3 oz for me after 15-16 months, but I could never get in the 2000 calories per day that I need to be stable if I didn't use the slider quality of many foods - but those are good, high nutrition sliders rather than crap sliders.
Learning to use sliders for good rather than evil is one of the things that most of us need to wrap our brains around when it comes time to stop the loss and maintain a healthy long term diet over the long term.

When was the time you lost 20 lbs before surgery? It will happen and BTW, you really can't throw the towel in because the procedure is not reversible. So sit back, put the scale in the trash (LOL) and enjoy the ride. Focus on creating healthier eating habits with exercise. This is a life change. Measure your body and watch the inches disappear. You are doing great!

Keep in mind - that's the straight math of it. But outside of quantum mechanics, very few things in life really are "1 + 1 = 2." Case in point - stalls. I went about 90 days eating no more than 600 calories a day, with a BMR of about 2100. So every single day, for about 3 months, I ran a deficit of at least 1500 calories. Now count in my exercise (300 - 900 calories most days of the week) and my average daily deficit was something like 2000 calories. More days than not, I was burning off every calorie I ate. At about 3500 calories per pound of body fat, I should have been losing a pound every day and a half. But I went 90 days of losing no pounds, and "should have" lost about 60. So there's more to it than the math.
So you'd think - maybe it's Fluid. Sure, and a lot of it probably was. But then once I lost the Fluid, shouldn't all that weightloss have been reflected on the scale? It wasn't. I did pretty quickly lose about 15 lbs - over about 2 weeks. That's only about 25% of the "should have" weightloss. And since then, I'd say my loss has been a bit slower than expected, so it's not like my body has made up for the lost time.
Everyone says "burn more calories than you eat and you'll drop pounds" and long-term that's probably true, but there are absolutely exceptions. I have no F'ing idea why -- I get that it's something our bodies are doing, loss isn't always reflected on the scale, etc. But I also know that with my band I maintained (for my BMI/BMR) a caloric deficit for 18 months while I hit a plateau and lost/gained the same 3 - 5 lbs over and over (which is really just fluid fluctuations).
So anyone proffering a 1 + 1 = 2 caloric formula for weightloss can just bugger off.

This is to avoid excess air in your stomach when you swallow, but even drinking normally allows air during swallowing.
Many people are able to use a straw or prefer to use a straw to make drinking easier.
Sometimes I prefer a straw, like when I make my Protein frappacinos and I have no problem whatsoever.
And yes, I drink caffeinated coffee too. My bad?

I don't see how people can over eat with the sleeve. It does happen. I can only eat 4 bits, I am full. My body also tells me, not to try that food anymore. I love salad. I can't eat it anymore with a little dressing. I dump. The dumping is so bad, I will not try salad again. It felt like something was attacking my body. I know a lady who had bypass surgery. She almost died. She started over eating. She gained all her weight back. She has serious medical issues now.
    Please don't over eat.

misslisa810 reacted to O.T.R. sleever in Always Check The Ingredients--- All Proteins Are Not Equal.
Researchers generally determine Protein quality by using the protein efficiency ratio (PER) or the protein digestibility corrected amino acid score (PDCAAS). They determine the PER by evaluating the weight gain in growing rats fed a particular protein compared with a standard protein, egg whites being the gold standard. The higher the PER value, the greater the protein quality. The PDCAAS was introduced as a more accurate way to evaluate protein quality for humans, because it uses human, not rat, amino acid requirements to calculate the amino acid score. It compares the amino acid profile of a protein with the essential amino acid requirements for humans according to The food and Agriculture Organization. When a protein meets this requirement, it gets a score of 1.0. PDCAAS has now been adopted as the official method by the World Health Organisation, the US Food and Drug Administration and the US Department of Agriculture.
Although the PDCAAS method is the internationally recognised standard for comparing Proteins for human consumption, it does not allow for differentiation among proteins with a PDCAAS of 1.0, so proteins can have different PERs while still having a PDCAAS of 1.0. This is significant, because researchers are now exploring how variances in specific essential and/or conditionally essential amino acids, as well as the availability of various peptides and micronutrients, affect human physiology. Claims of consumer-relevant superiority or inferiority, when performance of physique modificaitons are concerned, have yet to be supported by population-specific evidence in humans.
    Protein

    Table 1
Table 1 (above) lists the PER and/or PDCAAS for the major types of protein used in nutritional supplements. The following discusses the relative strengths and weaknesses of these basic types of proteins that are often used as starting materials for nutritional supplements. Of course, adding deficient amino acids and other nutrients to these proteins may increase the PDCAAS, nutrient value and/or functionality of the protein.

As you can see above collagen/gelatin is nearly useless to the human body. This is what is in almost all Protein Shots. Always check the ingredients. Many makers of protien shots are giving them names that have Whey in their title but are still using collagen/gelatin as their primary protein source.
Also keep in mind that ingredients on labels are listed in the order of amount used. So if collagen or Gelatin is listed first then it is the primary protein source for that product.
