The band doesnt stop hunger pains that are developed in your brain. It's a shame the fills dont restrict our brains. Fight it with Protein shakes and lowfat greek yogurt. Have lowcal Snacks available.

Make sure you have a heating pad ready for any possible gas in your body. It helps alleviate any gas discomforts. The surgery itself was a piece of cake for me. I drove my car the next day and attended a Weight reduction meeting at my local hospital. I had very little discomfort. Pain liquids were prescribed but I wasn't affected. Remeber to SIP the Water and NO straw. (causes you to suck air bubbles).

I also haven't had that many fills and they have been spaced apart by my doctor. He wants me to adapt and learn from the band. He is the type of doctor that doesn't rush into losing weight. He wants a gradual loss over a longer period of time.
Sometimes its frustrating to me and I think it's been way too long between fills and I expected them closer.

Rojasanoll got a reaction from ☠carolinagirl☠ in I would ideally like to lose half my weight
Yes, I would love to lose half my starting weight. I'm down over a 100 pounds since Aug 2012 and holding. The last several weeks has been slow but due to the holidays and time off from work, plus sickness I haven't had an opportunity to exercise very much. That's the key to weight control. You must exercise some to have effective weight loss over a longer period of time.
I wish I was more of an exercise person.

If the doctor stitched the band in properly a cough shouldn't disturb the band. The doctors usually stitch above and below the band so it doesnt move.
When in doubt, check in with your doctor.

Its wise to check in with your doctor. They can scope the band in the office and see if it's slipped.

BMI is the most important number for most insurances to vaildate surgery. You could be 6 ft tall and weigh 220 pounds of muscles with a bodyfat in low numbers and still wind up as obese. Two close friends of mine are body builders and they say BMI is BullS&*t!.
Best wishes and Keep the faith.

Rojasanoll got a reaction from blueturtle in Pre op diet
I actually loved the pre-op diet. I challenged myself that this was the only way I could possibly be healthy. Atkins Diets gave me quick results then after a period of time, I gained most of the weight back. I started on liquid Protein and thin Soups prior to the surgery and lost 34 pounds. I only had to lost 12-14 pounds. To this day over a year since lapband I still use Protein shakes evry now and then. I enjoy drinking them and its still a quick way to gaining needed Protein. My doctor is against me staying on shakes, but I know what works for me. I stay on 1300-1500 cals a day. light exercise only. I am not an exercise freak. So weight loss has been slower for me. My doctor has also been slow on "fills". He wants me to understand what to eat and not just rely on a fill.
Best wishes and Keep the Faith.

Rojasanoll reacted to gowalking in BMI is bulls**t
I was on the phone the other day with the pre-op nurse. I'm having a procedure on Monday and she needed to go over some things with me. While discussing my medical history, she was basically confirming what was already on her records...which included my last weigh-in which was oh..maybe 3 or 4 lbs. more than my current weight. But I heard her loud and clear when she noted that I was obese.
OK, I thought...yes, technically I still am obese based on my BMI...but this obese woman is wearing a size 12 slacks and tops anywhere from small to XL depending on the manufacturer. This obese woman fits into tight spaces, airplane seats, restaurant booths, suway and bus seats, and pretty much anywhere at this point I suspect.
This obese woman doesn't get stared at anymore, doesn't get dirty looks when she is out and about with her cane...because now this obese woman didn't do this to herself...oh no...she probably is recuperating from some kind of surgery or injury. Now folks treat me kinder...sad but true. Plus I don't feel as self conscious either...
This obese woman shops in regular clothing stores..no more Avenue for me. This obese woman is not ashamed to wear a bathing suit anymore...even with all the saggy skin, I wear the suits with a skirt to hide some of that. This obese woman got her legs up on the shower seat today to shave. Such an ordinary thing unless you can't do it...
This obese woman hopes to lose a few more pounds just so she is no longer clinically obese, but I'll take this kind of obesity any day compared to a year ago when I carried 100 more pounds than I do now and couldn't move because of the knee and hip pain.
I've said it before and I'll say it again...one day at a time, one pound at a time...and watch how your life will transform as you do. Happy Saturday all! I got out today...walked slowly and carefully but made it out. It's cold but not like yesterday...it's a balmy 22 degrees currently.

Rojasanoll got a reaction from Bandista in surgery on Sat and really nervous
I got banded in 2012, drove my car the next day, took a couple days off work, used a heating pad for gas for 24 hours and have been fine with the band. About the only negative thing is the doctor is 1 hour away from where I live and I have to schedule work time off to see him for a possible fill. He is real stingy with fills and wants his patients to learn how to adapt to the band and use it properly. I haven't received many fills since surgery. So I have bouts with no weight loss. All I do is retweak my eating back to liquids for a day or two, then the weight starts dropping again.
Best wishes and Keep the Faith.
