Can ur doctor write a note? I gave my work a note typed at my doctors office. Read: the above named patient will be admitted to hospital on (date) for a surgical procedure. He/she will need to be off from work for 6 weeks and will be able to return, given no complications, on (date). If this is possible, I would get ur doctor to add the no flying for blank weeks in there..

U might get information at ur next appointment about it? I wasn't told anything by my doctor, but just got an email from his assistant telling me about it.

Not sure if I'm the only one experiencing this, but today is officially day 1 of my 4 week pre op diet (shakes and water) and I'm having awful back pain! Not so much when I'm sedentary, but when I move it's sudden! Is this a normal symptom during pre op? Could it be detoxing? Did anyone else have the same experience?

Thanks for the support everyone! So far so good! Got 2 liters of water in already and it's not even lunch time. Weighed myself this morning and I'm down to 274..which is 4 lbs down from Tuesday..wahoo!!! :-)

Congrats! Yes you are right, it is just a number. But this number also represents all the hard work and effort u have been putting into this! Keep it up :-)

Thanks everyone. The 20lbs pre op loss is a combination of what my personal goal is as well as what my doctor Wants. My last appointment with him I was 262lbs on his scale (weird because I was 270 on mine). I am fluctuating between 275-278 right now. He did mention that at my next appointment that I cannot gain any weight from the 262lbs that I was at..which stresses me out. So that's why I got the one week extra head start. The diet doesn't bother me. I quite enjoy the glucerna shakes. They taste real good! I just hope I will be down to 260 by September 27.. So that means 1 month to lose 15 lbs..do-able right? Especially on liquids only?

Don't even know what I'm complaining about. I'm having an on going battle with myself. My pre op liquid diet doesn't start until September 1. I'm allowed 3-4 glucerna shakes a day (ensure but low sugar) and Water. In order to get a head start..I started this diet today (1 week early) but had a cup of cottage cheese at lunch because I felt like I needed something solid. I feel like a failure. I know my liquid diet doesn't start until septb1 but I feel like if I commuted myself to doing this a week early then why can't I stick to it? Am I crazy? I also hid my scale..I know if I weigh myself from now until next Saturday I will just get discouraged. I'm so stressed out that I wont lose 20lbs by the end of September..although a 4 week liquid diet seems encouraging. Plz give me some advice!!

Hey ForMyFamily - what does ur liquid diet consist of? I'm trying to drop 20lbs in 5 weeks and my doctor has me on glucerna (diabetic ensure) 4 cans a day. I should be on a 4 week diet but I'm going to give myself a 1 week head start

Wow! U are such an inspiration..I am pre-op..currently a size 18-20. I bought this gorgeous dress in a size 10 the other day..looking at it I thought "there's no way I'll fit into this in a year". But u has given me hope thanks for sharing!!

Actually, I'm also a nurse and have had patients dip as low as 1.7 and be perfectly conscious..-if ur there for 4 minutes or longer the risk of coma is there..

I know there is an October group here somewhere but I thought I would start this off by introducing ourselves! I'm 25 years old and from British Columbia, Canada. My surgery is set for October 2. My pre op ensure shake diet starts September 2 but I have started a week early for a head start I am A nurse by profession and engaged but no kids. With my history of PCOS kids will come after I drop the weight. Starting weight: 280lbs Current Weight: 275 and losing everyday!!

Thank u everyone for ur responses! Res I plan on doing a head start or 2 shakes and 1 lean protein meal in the evening..then on sept 1 starting the glucerna. Hope it works!

Hi all. I'm supposed to start a pre-op glucerna (diabetic ensure diet) on Sept 1 for 4 weeks as per my surgeon. I need to lose 20 lbs by surgery, which is oct 2. Just wondering if this Is even possible? I'm 278lbs right now..how long was your liquid pre-op diet and how much did u lose?

Vsg scheduled for Oct2, 2012 Top weight: 280 Current weight 278 Pre op liquid diet starts September 1 Goal weight 140-150 I am 5'0 so my weight should be at 125 for a healthy BMI..150 still puts my in the overweight category but I am and always will be curvy. Anything is better than 280. But I guess when the time comes, we will see where my body says "that's enough weight loss " lol

I bought the mango peach flavored mio and OMG!! I am in love. I havent had a carbonated drink or juice since! Just squirt a bit into my water bottle and ur helps the water go down so much better!! And it's sweetened with sucralose..better than aspartame

Was this the day of confirmed surgery dates or what!?! Just got like today as well:) oct 2! May seem far away but my liquid diet is 4 weeks pre op so I'm glad I have the time to prep physically...and mentally!!

I had mine in may..piece of cake! Ur not entirely asleep..but in this weird twilight zone. Kinda like when ur just about to fall asleep and have weird thoughts in ur head. When I "came to" I swore I could have driven home, but mom drove because of dr orders. Be prepared to burp a lot when they put the scope down because they pump air into u..and fart a lot when u get home! Lol I would do it again in a heart beat!!

I'm 25 and getting the sleeve this fall. I havent had anyone ask me if I thought I was too young..if anything I wish I had gotten the sleeve years ago So I would have been able to enjoy my early 20's at a healthy weight. The good part is since we our young we will bounce back quickly and less changes of loose skin
