xsentrick got a reaction from Secondchanceatlife in Emotional Regret
I was amazed at how much of an emotional attachment I had to food! It's as if it was my longest living best friend and I would never see him again. No one there to bring me up when down. No one to take away the pain of everyday problems. No one to tell me how things will be alright. No one to party with me on the weekends or to make road trips fun! But that friend while all of those things, was also making me do things that were detrimental to my health and causing me to ignore all the other things in life that matter so much more. Do I miss my friend....yes. However, I will NOT miss the rest of my life.

I hardly ever drink, but I did when I was 2 weeks post-op. I had one glass of Jim Beam on ice. Sipped on it for 2 hours and still got a buzz.

I'm glad you see everyone is doing so well!
Plication was definitely an awesome decision! I'm rarely hungry! And I've lost 8.5 pounds in 6 days! I know this will start to slow down soon, but I'm just going to enjoy it while it's still happening. I'm at 221.6, and I hope to be in the 100's by the time school starts back at the end of August!

I only told people at work, so most people at my work do not know I have the band (I work in an office with l35 people...my one on the keyboard decided not to work lol) I have lost 50lbs and starting to get alot of people noticing. I love the attention and the fact that they can tell. Its always a compliment to me

IMO it may not be so much of a compliment than it is someone saying "Hey, I've noticed...good job." I'd appreciate that.

Oh no! I had that a couple of times last week. I wound up just dry heaving gas. Called docs office and he said it was normal.

xsentrick got a reaction from Jean McMillan in Why are YOU Fat?
I'll keep my story short...lol! I was raised by my maternal Grandparents for most of my childhood through my teen years. Being hispanic, my grandmother was always concerned with feeding me. Not a day went by that I would get home from school and not have fresh homemade flour tortillas to snack on with refried Beans. Then dinner a couple of hours later. Of course, my grandma being old school, cooked with lard and believed in big portions. I took those eating habits with me when she passed away. When I did move back to live with my mother I was 14 and set in my ways. My mother did not cook the same for me, so I learned to cook the same way my grandmother did. I have an emotional attachment to the way I ate with the love of my grandmother. She was a wonderful women and only did what she knew how to do. I miss her and love her, but I do not blame her. I just have to relearn how to eat correctly.

Hi guys! My name is Robert and I had the iband procedure last week and wow those first 5 days were brutal! I'm feeling much better today and looking forward to a healthier me and lifestyle.
I've spent most of my life overweight so I know these changes are a not going to come easy, but it looks like there is so much support out there and here that at least I know I am not alone! In the first week I am already down 12 pounds! I'm so excited. Can't wait to hear and read about everyone's success stories! Look forward to meeting and talking with you all.

Welcome! It's always good to see guys on the boards. The girls seem to dominate here but the differences between all our concerns, victories and setbacks seem to be similar. I can't relate to getting into a size 8 dress but I can relate to sitting in a plane and not rubbing shoulders with skinny passengers on each side of me.
If you are like many of us who have been banded you will begin to learn all the minor and not so minor items that the seminars, doctors, nutritionists and nurses never told you.
For example, and you may already know this, the first 30 days of your journey you will lose 10-30 lbs of mostly Water weight. You'll lose some fat but the vast majority will be Water. You probably won't lose a lot of weight till you get that one fill that gets you into the green zone. And then it will only be 4-8 lbs a month. You'll probably meet "Bandster Hell" any time now. BH is the time between post op swelling and restriction. The docs don't put a lot of saline in your band and after the edema from the surgery trauma goes down your portal between your upper and lower pouch is larger than it will eventually be.
During this time you will be hungry. Very hungry. This is the time to work on your food choices and eating habits. Some bandsters luck out and find restriction right from the gitgo. Let's hope you're one of them.
Remember, It's still a diet until there's restriction.
