    Hi All~
Been a a while since I have been on, so I thought I would come and update on my progress, if anyone cares, lol.
Had my surgery on June 15th. Surgery went well, and recovery was o.k. Pretty sore the first few days, and hated hen I was able to eat more things, I found myself eating to quickly and not chewing enough. All the things that I read on this board over and over again!!!! It is just hard to adjust in the beginning. After my stomach swelling went down, I found my appetite to be quite large. Perfect timing. Had my first fill this past Monday. Not gonna lie, I thought it sucked!!! It was very painful and uncomfortable. My port was/is quite deep, and there is already quite a bit of scar tissue around it. This made for a painful session of the doc lady roaming around inside of me looking for the port. Ouch! Anyhoo, all was better as soon as she was done. Now have 3 cc's in my band and I feel a bit more restricted. Had to go back to liquids for a couple of days, and now progressing back to mushy and soft.
    So the weight loss part.......
    Starting weight - 296
    Pre-Op weight - 285
    Current weight - 268
Moving right along. They are happy with my progresss, and I am technically "ahead" of my scheduled weight loss. Now to get my big booty to the gym!
Although I do not always post, I love watching everyones journey. This is a big decision, and this board is great for support:)

Hi everyone! 4 weeks for me and I have lost 13 lbs since surgery, but a total of 32 lbs since I started dieting. The weight loss has slowed down in the last few weeks.
Surgery went well. I haven't had a fill and think I need one. I am fighting the hunger on a daily basis. I am walking, trying for 6 days a week, but happy if I get in 5 days when I am traveling. I get tired and even though I know I will feel better after the walk, it's hard to get going.
I really had to remind myself to slow down and chew more. It's so hard to break old habits. I found myself swallowing before I realized I hadn't chewed my food enough. I am making good food choices, but still think about what I would like to eat. The best motivation right now is how my clothes are fitting. I practically have a new wardrobe of clothes I had outgrown and also clothes that aren't way to tight! It feels amazing. People have begun to notice my weight loss and i had had a few compliments I know I still have a long road, but reading this site is inspirational and really all of you motivate me to go for my goal.
    Thank you

Sounds similar to the pain I got a few days ago when it had been 9 days post-op. I ended up sending an email to my surgeon that night and in the early morning he responded back telling me to come in that morning (Fri) to check it out. I described it also as sharp, stinging sensation that came on suddenly and didn't subside too quickly. Turns out everything's fine and it's the "port" region (left side). He said it's part of the healing process. I was already scheduled to see him this coming week to get staples out, etc. but he is very accommodating and to come in which I did and in less than 2 minutes I felt reassured and not worried these last few days before seeing him again. That was 2 days ago while I'm still feeling twinges now and again that can be described as slightly bothersome, it's not like the sharp stinging pain that I got Thursday night. Long story short, you should probably call your surgeon's office. for peace of mind. Hope all works out for you!

Happy pre 4th of July fellow USA Junies! Hope today finds all of you feeling spectacular and stronger every moment! I'm celebrating one week today since surgery and truly feel good this morning. Here in New England our summer's are short so we take advantage of beautiful days like today whenever we can. Went for a walk, had Breakfast on the back deck and played "Rummikub" with my husband, while basking in the sunshine. I feel blessed to have the support of my husband of more than 33 years, as well as all of you. I love US history which I teach as a 5th grade teacher. I love occasions that pull us all together such as celebrating our Nation's birthday! Also, a special "Hello" to our Canadian neighbors in the June Bandsters group, as well as others living across the Globe in our support group!

PS Go ahead and cry, you've earned it! As I just posted day 4 was my worst too (left shoulder pain that caused nausea) I did finally lie down, cry, fall asleep and woke up feeling better.

    Well hello junies!!!
All of us have made it through the gate, now to the race...
I was thrilled to get home from Toronto - I must say the 4 hour flight home squashed into a tiny seat with gas pain left a lot to be desired, but I was so anxious to get home to my baby I didn't care too much.
This morning I went for a nice long walk with the old dog and managed pretty well.
As of yesterday I've lost 31 pounds since the pre-op diet start, 5 of those since last Wednesday's surgery.
Question - Even though I sip my Water slowly I find it gives me some chest pain, is that normal for the week post-op?

I'll be one of the last because my surgery date isn't until the 29th but I start my pre-op diet in two weeks and I know I'm going to need support. Anybody want some buddies?
A bit about me, I'm 35 years old, nearly 300 pounds and done every diet out there - finally saved up enough to get the surgery and can't wait for my "life" to start. Several friends have done bypass or banding and they are all in their 50s and 60s and I just feel like I need to take care of me now instead of waiting another 20 years. I have a hubby, two kids (9 girl, 6 boy) and keep thinking there might be more but certainly won't be if I can't lose weight.
Look forward to meeting the rest of you, I'd love someone to talk to and go through this with. Haven't even told my banded friends I'm doing it, only hubby know so far and I don't know why I am nervous to tell. Oh yeah and I live in Utah.
Me in a nutshell, what about you?

I'm banded!!!!! My surgery went really well. It was scheduled for 2pm, and was told to arrive at the hospital at noon. I got there at about 11:50 and there was a very short wait. I was taken back and weighed, and I had lost 15 pounds on my 10 day liquid diet!
I was put in a gown, gave a urine sample had blood drawn and was ready for my surgery to happen. Then they told me that my surgeon was slightly delayed from his previous surgery but to just hang tight. He ended up coming in to talk to me at about 2:30 and I was wheeled into the OR at about 2:45-3.
The only thing I remember was being given an oxygen mask and then I was in the recovery room. I asked the nurse if we would be starting soon. She laughed and told me that they were done and I had already been in recovery for 30 minutes. At that point I recall feeling some pressure in my chest and the need to cough. The nurses sat me up so I was able to cough better.
She asked me if I was planning to be an inpatient or an outpatient. I told her I preferred to go home. She checked with my surgeon who said that if I could drink a cup of Water and keep it down, and felt good enough to leave then he would clear it.
They gave me a cup of ice Water to sip, and felt soooooo good on my very very dry mouth. I did end up keeping it down, so they cleared me go home.
I got home last night at around 7:30. I'm feeling pretty good overall. sleep was a bit uncomfortable but I managed. I don't seem to have much gas because of all the suggestions here for the gas x strips, those are amazing! Thank you all for that!
As of now the only pain I'm having is just some tenderness in my port area and my very dry throat.
I've been able to keep down water, a Protein shake and some broth. I'm going to try to purée some Soup in a bit and see how well that does.
Overall this has been an amazing experience so far!

About 40 hours away from surgery now (Tues am). Can hardly wait. 9th day of Pre-op diet which hasn't been too tough overall, except to say I really miss chewing! I'm anxious somewhat about post - op issues I've seen from various posts. I still can't figure out why people say they have shoulder pain for days/weeks due to anesthesia, and why even after a wk post-op people can barely swallow sips of Water. I'd say that last one is my biggest fear, not being able to swallow/gag. WHY does that happen when the band isn't even filled at first, nor is it in your throat??? Has anyone out there had a fairly smooth post-op in the first week or two?

Day 1 of my 10 day liquid pre-op diet. Surgery is June 26th. It's not so much that I'm hungry as much as much as the fact that I already miss chewing! I am surely going to need support from as many of you as possible.
