I tried the EAS soy Protein Powder this morning mixed with pineapple juice and ice and it was hard to get down. Extremely chalky, after surgery I'll be limited to my shakes with just Water and maybe ice. I think I'll stick to the powder from True Results no chalky taste at all.

Everyone raves about MyFitnessPal. I've been using Lose It! for a few years now, so I won't be switching. But the main thing is to really take a look at your input (calories, Protein, Vitamins, and minerals) and output (exercise, other activity) to see where there is room for improvement -- or a complete overhaul!
For me, nutrition was a huge obstacle. I was a very unhealthy sort of vegetarian -- a pastatarian. Trading some simple carbohydrates for greens and adding more fruits, veggies, and legumes to my Pasta when I do have it made a huge difference for me. After dinner walks are nice, too!
Evaluate, make some changes, and then go from there. One step at a time.

I really think you have to exercise accordingly to your weight and health. At my weight you are not going to find me running laps around the corner or jogging up the block. I also have servere arthritis and one hip replaced so I am a tad bit limited. However, this does not mean I can't physically move around. I can walk back in forth in a swimming pool, float and paddle my legs on a board, mostly anything with Water aerobics. I can stretch with my neat stretch band. I also have a machine called the gazelle edge that I glide myself as if I am sking in air (no impact). Even when I clean house, mopping, scrubbing, laundry, I am moving around. Its a start.....

I highly recomend YOGA. Its slow movements that make you sweat balls. I have been doing it on thursday at work for an hour and I have become more flexable and feel really good after.

I've noticed that every exercise works, as long as you really put all of your effort into it. But another thing that I've heard many times, is that you need to switch up your work outs...so that your muscles don't get used to the same thing over and over, and that's why your weight loss seems to slow down, cuz that's what happened to me too. As soon as I switched it up, I saw results again. And now that it's nice out I've started fast walking outside as well, and try to go as long as I possibly can...one day I went out for a 5 hour hike. I bring weights with me too a lot of times. Try going an hour instead of half an hour, and I bet you will see results that way too.
If you REALLY want something intense, that will get you results FAST, try Insanity. They call it Insanity for a reason.

Running, theres nothing like it. Yes, in the long run you need some strength training, but to shift fat fast, run for forty minutes to an hour every day and you wont regret it.

Stair climber....the kind that looks like an escalator with about five steps. If u go slow, tighten your Buns as you step, it works legs and butt. I do about 20-25 minutes to music and headphones. You burn a lot of calories and sweat! I feel like I get a great workout.

Once again, you are correct TX! This is just a phase you are going through and you will need to determine what is best for you during this phase. Trust me, soon you will soon be able to eat many of the foods you love and enjoy, so don't put to much effort into this regretting phase! It may be in much smaller portions, but the beauty of the band is that it will allow you to eat many of things you desire. This is a healing time for you, so take it slow and easy for now. Do the best you can to consume the required amount of protein and soon you will be well on your way to enjoying the foods you enjoy and living a much healthier lifestyle. Smile TX, you have a lot to look forward to!!

    Happy 4th of July TX!
I learned a little secret from my nurse brother that might help you immensely. It sounds like you are doing well with Soups, SO he recommends adding flavorless whey powder and boosting the Protein level! I love those EAS shakes as well, but the Protein content is minimal compared to whey. Remember, look for something that will not affect the flavor of your Soups to a great degree and you should do well. Sounds like you are progressing well!!

From what I've read, soy and whey Proteins are equally viable.
From what I have read, and to follow the recommendations of my surgeon who is affiliated with a bariatric "Center of Excellence", and is not a product distributor of herbalife products, soy Protein is not considered to be a complete Protein source. This topic did come up in one of the patient education classes I attended pre op, and we were advised that in general even those who have sensitivities to regular dairy products can use whey isolate as they are considered to be lactose and nearly cholesterol free.

Soy has a different amino acid structure, one which has in several studies to be related to increased levels of hormones which have been linked to hormonal disorders in humans.
Soy is a source of complete protein, and since it is plant-based, it is a great alternative for vegans, vegetarians, and those with dairy allergies.
It is still controversial to state that soy is considered a complete protein, because in the field of nutrition studies many do not consider that to be an accurate statement. Vegetarians usually do use dairy products, as well as eggs. Whey isolate is generally considered to be both lactose and cholesterol free. Vegans would be the only group to stay with plant based Proteins to remain compliant with their self imposed dietary rules.
Anecdotally, when I've had whey isolate protein-based drinks they have not agreed with me. I haven't had the same discomfort (and other more graphic issues) with soy protein.
You may have an allergy to dairy products, and whey isolate protein may not be your best choice.
But it is really an individual thing, and in light of the research it seems unfair to call whey 'the best' -- 'my whey or the highway' (I couldn't resist!) -- when soy is also nutritious and made from the same stuff: the amino acids that are the building blocks of all the cells in your body.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions. As you mentioned, and I definitely agree, everyone should consult with their own nutritionists and surgeons as to what is the best source of protein to use while following a bariatric diet.
when soy is also nutritious and made from the same stuff: the amino acids
Well, no, as you said yourself, soy is not dairy. The amino acids are not derived from the same sources, so from a organic chemistry perspective, can they really be the same stuff? I'm not a chemist, and don't care to debate this topic. But, let's get back to basics. Most of us on the forum are not trying to build muscular physiques. We want a good, complete and nutritious source of protein which does not contain carbs or cholesterol.

Whey isolate protein is still considered to be the "Gold Standard" of proteins for bariatric patients. During the pre op nutrition class which I attended, we were advised that other types of protein were not considered to be complete, and lacked the amount of protein per gram of product which whey isolate provided.

I do not share my opinion as anything but what a "Center of Excellence" has stated in their patient education curriculum. You have written that you are a distributor of herbalife products. I would hope that you are not misusing the scope and contents of this forum to promote the use of your products, or to enhance your business interests in your distributorship.
It would also seem that, based on your profile, you have not had any bariatric surgery, and also do not need to loose any weight. So, as a matter of inquiring minds want to know... what are your reasons to be active on this forum?

That said, as one who, incidentally does have dairy allergies, I will continue to follow the instructions of my surgeon. 100% Whey Isolate protein...

I agree, Cazzy. I try to be super strict about these sorts of things at first, until I can get good enough at estimating; but long-term, I think we all have better uses for our time. The important thing is to be mindful of portions and train ourselves to make good decisions. And after a while, it comes naturally.

    Hi all-
I was banded on April 27th and have lost a total of 40 lbs. so far. But I am missing salad so much. I can eat carrots and snap peas now but I miss more veggies in my diet. My regularity also misses salad in my diet....lol.
When did everyone re-introduce salads into their diets?
    Thanks

But like others said sometimes I don't have enough time or don't feel like eating Breakfast that's when I reach for a delicious eas low carb strawberry Protein Shake. Or if by the end of the day I haven't met my 70g goal then I'll have another not to exceed 2 in one day.

    Happy July, too!
I absolutely get creative with my shakes, but they taste great as-is. My wife and I fell in love with Herbalife Formula 1 (my favourite -- smooth) and Protein Drink Mix (my wife's -- thick and creamy).
All of the flavours are great (latté and Cookies 'n' cream being our favourites), but we mostly get vanilla. It's easier to use that as a base and then add whatever we happen to be in the mood for (coffee, fruit, etc.) without having to stock all the individual flavours. And they double as 'protein pops'!
Disclosure: I am an Herbalife distributor. Can't beat wholesale!

Definitely! Just make it a protein-based snack, since that is more filling -- and of course most of us could use some more anyway!

It is super important that we all find something that works for us as individuals. Personally, I didn't eat breakfast at all for years. Very unhealthy, I know; but it just made me sick when I did. Having a shake every morning has been a game-changer for me, since I can now get fuel right away to start my day.

have you signed up on myfitnesspal.com or sparkpeople to log your food. fitnesspal breaks down all the categories and makes it fairly easy to eat correctly.
mine is set up to calculate Fiber, Protein, fat and carbs. I log everything I eat and am able to keep track of it as the day goes on.
I don't think you need a "diet" to follow, just eat fresh foods, no processed box foods, no chips or Cookies. drink lots of Water and you'll start seeing a difference. you will also feel good!

I freeze my premier protien ready to drink shakes after I blend them with the PB (powdered Peanut Butter) and let it freeze about an hour and then blend it again to make sure it does not separate. I have a small blender with a ready to drink glass on it and I freeze it and eat it like ice cream. Because it blends it it larger and fluffy and it tastes just like chocolate ice cream. I am a night eater and it is perfect. takes about an hour to eat frozen and it 160 calories 5 carbs 3 grams of fat. Yummy!! 30 grams of Protein. Been doing this the last 2 weeks!! I buy them at Sam's 18 FOR $18.99
