This is just me, but I have told all of my overweight friends. I even told the overweight lady I sat next to on the airplane yesterday. I am 5 weeks out and lost 30 pounds. It is not the weight loss so much as it is the freedom I now feel. I do not feel so controled by food and I want overweight people who are suffering like I was to know that this was a solution for me. It is not a solution for everyone, but it worked for me. I do not walk up to strangers and sell my sleeve but I tell friends who are fighting this battle. My close friends know but I don't really tell others, I don't feel that it is anyones business but mine and I don't put it out there for office gossip or judgement.

Wow 35 grams of Protein a day is not alot. I guess each Doc is different but I need to consume at least 60 grams a day to help prevent Hair loss, muscle loss, damage to vital organs. I too have two Snacks a day but at each meal I have two ounces of protein; same for my snacks.

    Hey Kim,
I was a fast loser too. I lost 34lbs in my first 4 weeks, 85lbs in 15weeks. I didn't have a stall at all till my 16th week. Unfortunately when my stall showed up it was a big one. So far I've been stalled 7 weeks. It will come to an end & I will start dropping again, but when, I don't know.
I'm not trying to curse you here, just trying to keep you from getting discouraged when/if the big one hits.

Ya, don't know what I was thinking. Like there wouldn't be many Kim Barnes type people in Indiana or California. If you were Desmerelda Grondonclasenstinklemeyer we might have had a match.

This is exactly how i handled my situation. Only very few know; not that im ashamed but really, ive seen coworkers reactions and whispers about other folks who went the surgery route and I didnt want to be their next topic....they are what i call "haters"!

Did the doc and NUT not say 3 meals and 3 Snacks, the snacks being small Protein servings?
Mine did. The idea is to prevent muscle loss.
I think a significant amount of my rapid initial weight loss was muscle mass.
I am now stalled at around 7 pounds from my goal because I am weight training and doing cardio and adding muscle back on which weighs more that fat. During this time my fat is still coming off as revealed by the mirror and my clothing sizes.
Having adequate muscle mass is a good insurance against putting fat back on.

Keep up the great progress. I would not be overly concerned because you will hit a stall fairly soon and then you will be asking why you aren't losing fast enough. LOL! Everyone has different body types which results in a different loss rate.

I realize how irritating this post may be to anyone who is struggling to lose, so forgive me in advance.
I had my surgery about 5 weeks ago - 9/11. I'm 5'9" and was 262 on surgery day. One month later, on 10/11, I weighed 232. So, 30 lbs. lost in the first month. I've lost 6 more lbs. since that, for a total of 36 lbs. in 5 weeks.
Is it possible to lose too quickly on this or is it "the more, the better?"
I am eating what is recommended in my packet from the surgeon - I have 3 meals per day, a meal being around 1/4 cup of Protein. I do get hungry sometimes in-between meals and at night before bed but it's not overwhelming.
Drinking plenty of Water and although I'm not getting high-impact exercise, I am doing 45-60 minutes of casual walking per day.

How about a doctor-supervised weight loss program? It sounds a bit more intense than Jenny Craig, but you're not having to admit to surgery in public. Then, if it's a friend or someone you know socially outside of work, and you want them to know, you can update them away from the office.

Don't tell people until YOU are ready. No one should be forced to tell people. Once you tell one person, the cat's out of the bag, so to speak.
People lose a lot of week quickly on the Atkins diet and nobody challenges them. So just say you lowered your carbs. And when you are ready, you can add 'i had WLS to make sure the weight stays off.'
    Good luck!

Diet and exercise are the truth! I would just stick with that, just tell them that you are eating healthy, watching portion size and exercising. I know how you feel, i don't really like talking about myself to the masses.
    Best of luck to you!

Everyone I'm close to knows about my VSG last Thursday, 10/11/12. I'm a secretary in Principal's office in an elementary school so a lot of people, teachers, aids, parents and community members, see me regularly. What do I say to 'random' compliments about weight loss, when asked how I did it (of course this will happen in a public arena so God knows who else will hear my response!) When I last lost 70 pounds on Jenny Craig-I was open about it to everyone and anyone. (Thanks to my success, at least 7 women I knew went on JC-we all stopped and regained the loss-typical!) I feel like saying "diet and exercise" but I know that's a lie! Should I openly respond that I had surgery, and if I do, do I risk the chance of an extended Q and A session for all the world to hear (and keeping me from my work--my boss would not be thrilled!). Help! I go back on Monday - rumor has it that I had 'back' surgery...not Bariatric. (Gossips tend to distort story! They got the "b" right and the "k" at the end, but the middle ...WTH! The old "telephone game" played out right before my eyes!)

No, it doesn't. Moderators are on this forum and ban people like him. It's best not to antagonize but to just report & let them deal with it.
We DO have difference of opinions and great discussions where we all learn from each other. But bashing as this individual did is not tolerated and nor should it be.

I think they are responding to some very real concernes...and I would be curious to know who her doctor was.
There are always going to be times you are confronted with being asked questions without knowing all the facts, and you have to decide how you will react.
I chose to react in saying your face looks extremely thin, and given some of your verbage in other topics, starting weight and , yes, even the online name chosen, please...make sure you need to lose more weight.

I have to disagree on a few points.
    1. This is a forum. You can find support here, but you can also find discussion and disagreement. Thank God for that. I've learn a lot and even learned a bit from the OP of this thread.
    2. Purely cosmetic bariatric surgery for people of normal weight that want a tool to help them starve themselves? I do understand using the sleeve and a revised surgery, but not for people not in proven need of it. I still believe this is last resort territory. We all signed on with the possibility of living with complications and a forever altered gut and in the case of malabsorptive procedures - a life of daily supplements and a very special diet.
How many people in for the 90 pound supermodel body are going to eat right and make a commitment or will they continue on with poor eating, alcohol and amphetamine use that goes with the culture. Sorry, but obese people have to make a commitment to fix their head and get healthy.
Sure, people can do whatever they want as long as I don't have to pay for it. I'll be in the insurance pool with someone who want to get healthier, but I'm simply not paying for someone's self-esteem. Just as in cosmetic procedures, there is potential for abuse. I mean, why not just take out the stomach altogether and live on IV fluids? Yes, people do this at least short term for now. Excuse me, but this is SICK!
    http://articles.nyda...des-nasogastric
    and finally
    3. The sleeve does not teach you to eat healthier. That is the commitment I was talking about. It is a tool for restriction only and with the right (or wrong) mindset you can easily eat around it or develop other addictions to replace food. I've talked with so many that replaced dumping alcohol down their gullets instead of food and have ended up right back in the super obese category.
A lot of the above is IMO of course.
