My (thin, exercise-obsessed) sister once have me a diabetic cookbook for Xmas and I'm not a diabetic!!! Hateful.

While traveling for business with my very small, extremely fit boss, I had "the moment"...I had to ask for a seatbelt extender for the first time ever. I wanted to DIE of shanevand embarrassment.
I sheepishly called out to the flight attendant and then, in a barely audible voice, explained my situation. She stomped to the front of the plane in a huff, obviously annoyed. That alone got people's attention. I will never, ever forget what she did next....she came stomping back up the aisle and in an really loud voice says, "WHERE'S THE LADY WHO NEEDS THE SEATBELT EXTENDER?!"
I've never been so humiliated in my entire life. I wanted to die, sitting there, trapped on that plane with my boss. I barely raised my hand and she pretty much came towards me swinging the damn thing over her head. I wanted to choke her with it.
Instead, I did what lots of us fatties do, I hid my pain and shame with humor. To make everyone ELSE less uncomfortable. I cannot wait for the day when I'm thin and healthy enough that the seatbelt panic will not even cross my mind while boarding a plane.

I call mine my fanny pack. If I could put a zipper on that mofo, I wouldn't need a purse!!

The hubs & I are going to renew our vows for our 10 year (Feb 2014). Someplace warm, and I'm already looking at cute, SHORT wedding dress!!

I'm tempted to buy some knee high boots. Yea baby!!

I breezed by a 6 years ago! I'll be very happy at a 14 bc then I can shop in regular stores.

I've been eating well daily but I AM doing my "Farewell Tour of Food" at my favorite restaurants! LOL

I SO tempted to buy a cute dress for our beach trip next summer! I've been browsing online stores and cannot WAIT to enjoy shopping again.
Although I have lots of clothes from weights gone by, I too am going to buy something as motivation!

Also...
- I will not miss seeing my beautiful engagement ring sitting in my make-up drawer instead of on my finger.
- I will not miss people being dismissive of my intelligence, beauty and drive bc I'm fat.
- I will not miss my feet being so swollen they hurt at the end of the day.
- I will not miss feeling like the massage therapist, chiropractor and my husband simply MUST be disgusted by my fat body.
- I will not miss being ridiculously self-conscious when walking by a group of people, especially of they're teenagers.

But the OP is not obligated to reveal her very personal choice to "further the cause". If a person is comfortable doing so, then by all means press on, but she shouldn't be made to feel wrong or bad or ashamed if her personal choice.
I was very secretive and then VERY open about my struggles with infertility. It was emotional and excruciatingly personal and physically challenging and while I speak feely of it NOW, I chose to keep it to myself while in the middle of treatment. I'm taking a similar approach to WLS.
There is no "wrong" decision here and our feelings, whatever they may be, are not to be judged.
It was rude of the OP's cousin to ask, just like its rude for people to ask if my twins are "natural". (Yes, a stranger actually asked me that once. I replied, "Yes, I grew them myself.")

You do whatever feels good to YOU. You have no obligation to be a spokesperson for WLS or anything else that makes you uncomfortable! I'm such a blabber mouth usually, but I've only told my closest girlfriends, one co-worker, my boss (so many appts!) and my husband of course.
I fully expect that I'll be telling everyone within earshot once I've lost considerable weight, even perfect strangers! I was very open after struggling with infertility, and I'll likely be the same with WLS.
At the end of the day, it's an intensely personal choice and you'll do what's right for you. Those who matter don't mind and those who mind, don't matter!
