  7. The first thing to do is find a surgeon and talk to him/her. I was sleeed 9 April 2012. I am so very happy with the result. I have lost 33 pounds. True, you can't eat a lot at a time, but if you follow the rules-protein and water first- then you will be fine. I have to remember to eat. I drink water all the time. I am not eating everything yet-see my surgeon next week and then will step up a notch. But I am presently very content with soft foods. I eat a lot of Greek yogurt and cottage cheese. A lot of things didn't taste right, but this is normal. I loved chicken before surgery and when they said I could have it again, I didn't like it.But now I like the taste. I don't crave anything. I am determined to make this work. The sleeve is safer than gastric bypass and you have been through the lap band. I was back to work after 5 weeks. I did 1/2 days the 6th week, but now I am full speed ahead.I have had to cut my blood pressure meds in half and don't need my CPAP any more. It is amazing. The sleeve is self-restricting. You eat small amounts and you are full. At least for me. Four-six ounces of yogurt is all I can eat at a time. But I try to eat a little every couple hours.. The way I look now makes me smile and I follow the rules as it make me happy. My clothes don't hurt! I didn't tell many people. More know now, but I have kept it pretty quiet. Some people tell everyone. It is a very personal thing. Get to a surgeon and talk this out. You will find your way. Good luck!

  9. Ha! I have 26 year old twins... One lives in Chicago, one in Sweden! ( we lived there for a while). You will do so well! How wonderful that the sleeve is available now for us so we can finally loose all this extra wt. and get on with life! Keep me in the loop. I wore my new shorts out with friends tonight!!. They all had tacos... I ate cottage cheese!!!!!!
  10. You appear yoing in your photo. I am 61- iff I can do this so can you!!!! You have already been brave having the surgery, now take on the rest of it!!! You eill win!!! I just bought a size 15/16 shorts!!!! Yeah! I was in an 18 in April!!!!!( forgive the typos !)
  11. Hang in there.. I am 6 weeks out and have lost 33 pounds. It is an amazing thing. Keep eating the things you are supposed to eat. i am at a point that I have to remember to eat. And lots and lots of water...Be well!
  12. Ii only told a few people. I didn't want to deal with the negative comments from those who have thought that I should be able to loose the weight by dieting and exercising. Well I have been doing that for 40 years and it did not work. I was sleeved April 9, and have lost 32 pounds. I have had to cut my blood pressure meds in half and I don't need my CPAP any more. I am taking care of me the best way I can. Just do what you are comfy doing. This is about you!!
  13. I haven't told a lot of people that I had a sleeve done. I just didn't want the negative. This is the new normal. Go out with your friends.. you can be the designated driver. And there is nothing wrong with talking 2/3 of a restaurant meal home in a box. You can eat it later..... and you can still have fun.. and be a healthy weight.
  14. I am just a month out, but had staples when I had back surgery.. It didn't hurt a bit. I was pleasantly surpried.. You will be fine. ( for my sleeve I just had dermabond and steri strips)
  15. Congrats to you sleevedreamer!
  16. I am only 3 weeks sleeved, but am totally convined that this is the way to go. I am eating a limited group of food but as you have read, you can step up as you body becomes used to the smaller stomach. And the part of the stomach that goes away is the part that makes you hungry. As far as leak goes, I was taken to xray the day after surgery, drank some radiopaque fluid and was checked for any leaks- it was all good. Your surgeon and his dieticians will teach you how and what to eat ... And when. As long as you follow the routine, you should be great. You have be through the band. VGS should be the last weight loss surgery you have to have!
  17. Ellie-cut the cord!!!!! Give them to Goodwill! Believe in yourself! This is working! And don't you need room in your closet for NEW beautiful clothes???? Just do it!!!
  18. Call your surgeon. Make an apt with your GYN. Hormones could be out of whack.
  19. I have BCBS of Michigan. I had to pay $1100 up front-copay. I thought this was a deal. My BMI was just below 40, but have hypertention, sleep apnea and elevated A1C. Also have a lot of joint problems. These problems allowed me to have coverage for the major part of the surgery. I have not received the billing, so I don't know the total cost of the surgery. I have lost 12 pounds this first 10 days post op.
