Okay, let's just cut to the chase here! Going to the gym 3-4 days a week doing cardio for 30 min and nautilus machines are not going to gain that much muscle in that amount of time! I'm not trying to be rude, but why does everyone say muscle weighs more than fat to try to make others feel better! I have had plateaus and setbacks also, but I have never seen the scale move upwards during a muscle weighs more than fat period! Make sure you track your food, make smart food choices, maybe increase the length of your workout and up it's intensity. Stick with it! You should be patting yourself on the back for going to the gym! Isn't it about a healthy body or is it just about the numbers on the scale?! If your working out, no matter what the scale says your getting heathier! You can be unhealthy and thin and you will have accomplished nothing! Remember the goal is health, you need to keep going to the gym and put the scale away for a while! It can mess with us and even cause us to fail by not showing us what we expect! Don't let that little square object determine your future or judge your progress! That is my rant! I don't mean to offend anyone, I just get upset that we think the scale measures our success! I am guilty of this obsession and trying very hard everyday to take my power back! I will no longer bow down to it! Amen! That concludes my service! LOL

So, I've been on this plateau for about 8 weeks now. (I'm only 4 mo.out from surgery) I've only lost about 25lbs since surgery. I had been going 3-4 times a week to the gym doing 30 min cardio and Nautilis machines. I got sick with a cold and did not go for a week and then started losing weight! did not go for another week. had lost about 3 lbs over the last 2 weeks. Monday I started back at the gym, have gone every day and have gained the 3 plus 1 lbs back? This is not logical I did go out to dinner Monday night but did not eat anything outrageous and brought home most of it. So why in the world would I be up 4 lbs? I was so happy thinking I'd broken the plateau, only to be back where I was two weeks ago! Any ideas? and I don't by the building muscle theory.
    thanks for letting me whine!

I did not just start working out. I have been working out for 3-4 years off and on but pretty steadily until I was sick two weeks ago. I do use a tape measure and honestly haven't seen much (if any) movement there either. My diet is high in Protein at least 80 grams (or milligrams however the measurements) per day. I have dropped 2-3 sizes and 64-69 lbs (since I started actually in April when I began the whole surgery circuit)but, my concern is in the last couple months. Well Thanks for all the support. I will surely keep plugging along!

Mistywater35 reacted to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! in Painful Walking. How Do You Do It ?!
I started walking at over 400 pounds. It sucked and I felt like a complete moron as I huffed, puffed, and waddled down the street- but I did it.
Honestly, I started going to the end of the street and back. That was seriously all I could walk and I'd be major pain and exhausted when I got back. But, I kept doing it a couple times a week. Over time, my endurance got stronger as my body got lighter. The end of the street went to around the block. Around the block turned to two blocks. Two blocks turned into a half mile. A half mile turned into mile.
Now, I walk about 2 miles with ease. In fact, I truly enjoy it. I find myself even braving the cold and wind because I truly like and need my walks.
It took months to get here but I'm so glad I stuck with it! Don't worry about what anyone else thinks. All that matters is that you are doing something wonderful for yourself.
Here's one of my favorite motivationals because it's SO true!

I am also 46 and I am divorced however it's been 16 years now since I got divorced! I was just banded and I'm ready to take on this new challenge. I have been heavy all my life. But it isn't anything emotional I just overate. Anyway being 46 isn't such a bad thing you have lots of life experience and it all helps to see things clearly after the dust settles. I'm going for a new me, for me who can stroll the mall without pain and fatigue, or go hiking the mountains, I can't wait (yup kids are grown and it's all about me!). Take a step and make it all about YOU! Oh and if my man wants to go I will probably let him if he can keep up to me!
    Go for it Girl!

I almost feel back to normal. Yesterday we walked around a small "artsy" New England tow nearby and today I feel very very good. not much pain except being over and getting up from the couch I have not taken any pain med since the Friday (2nd day after surgery). I just realized I could have a cup of coffee (decaf) but haven't yet, funny it was the thing I missed most during pre-op! I can only hope things continue as smoothly as they have so far!
All the support through this forum is the BEST!

Surgery day tomorrow. I am a mix of emotions today, Happy, scared, excited, but mostly can't wait to do things like ride a bike and walk the mall without my knees and feet hurting. I already feel so much better having lost the 40 lbs during the last 7 months (since seeing the surgeon the first time) that I can't wait to lose more. I have already put away the NEED for the large portions that got me here. I know there are more challenges along the way but as another poster's said being overweight is a challenge. One I've fought since about 3rd grade. I am ready to see what else is out there in this thing called LIFE.
