    Who Are You?

It is true that we are more than our struggle with weight. But for 30 years I struggled with being overweight And it wasn't until I had the VSG That I began living again. It took a year for me to lose 100 pounds And today I'm happier than I've ever been in my whole life. I hike and bike and snowshoe and dance and smile and approach people and socialize and entertain. It's been wonderful. My husband I've been married for almost 35 years and we're like honeymooners again. I feel so sorry for all those out there that have had difficulties with their surgery Vomiting pain depression other illnesses. I personally have had no problem whatsoever. I have gained about 15 pounds But that's due to drinking too much wine and alcohol and not doing enough exercising. So my husband I have begun cutting back and were hitting the gym more often. We are getting in shape for a two-week long hiking extravaganza across the country in July. We will start at Arches national Monument, Followed by national reef national Park, Bryce Canyon and then Zion national Park. We plan to hike at least two trails in each place. We will end this hiking extravaganza in Las Vegas Where my husband and I are planning to reinstate our wedding vows for 35th wedding anniversary. Good luck to all of you out there. For those of you struggling I hope that things get better for you And for the rest of you I hope that your as happy as I am
  2. Hell yes! And HELL yes!!!!! Go for it girl!! I am 51 and soon will have my first in a series of cosmetic surgeries an arm lift. I hope to have my whole body done within 3 years. Since my 104lb weight loss I am a different person with different goals and I have no hesitation about making myself look and feel as good as it can. I don't expect perfection, but I do want to feel good in my skin. What's wrong with looking as young as you feel? One only gets one life to lead so do all the things you've been wanting to do or fantasizing about doing. A few weeks ago I cut my hair short and went blond because I've always wanted to and there's no reason NOT to do it. My husband loves it!! Good luck in your journey!!!!

    Worried

I can only speak for myself. I had the sleeve April 13th 2011 so I am almost at my year anniversary. I have lost 107 lbs and have an additional 13 lbs to go. I have gone from a size 24 to a size 12 and my size 12s are beginning to get loose. My surgery has thus far been a great success. I'm not sure what the 1 in 300 odds refers to. Success of the lap band? Or the sleeve? My bariatric team advised me to have the sleeve instead oh the bypass because I need to take NSAIDS for my arthritic knees. Then I wanted to have the band but the told me the success rate and patient satisfaction was low. So I decided on the sleeve. I am happier than I have been in 30 years and that's no lie! I didn't even realize how much I had isolated myself from other people and social settings. Now I have energy, I can walk up and down stairs, I can get on the floor to romp around with my young grand sons, I can hike, bike, swim, Zumba, dance etc!!! Concerning food, today, so far there isn't anything I can't eat or drink. In very small portions of course. But I am doing fine with the small portions. In fact they really make me appreciate how great food tastes!! Clarification. I can't drink beer. It's just too foamy but I don't really like beer that much. I can drink champagne, and wine, and mixed drinks but have to be careful. We can get intoxicated quickly. I can drink soda slowly, chew gum, eat bread and drink with a straw. I can eat sweets, Even though I can eat bread I hardly do. Nor do I eat pastas. But granola on yogurt is great! Part of my success had to be contributed to my husband. He has been very supportive and has chosen to eat healthier and loose weight too. We eat healthy together at home and when we dine out we share our entree. If we take enough time sometimes we have dessert. But most of the time we don't feel like eating more. I may not be typical but this is my journey so far. I will never be fat again.

    Depression

Soooo sorry to hear you are struggling much!! Sounds like food was a big source of comfort to you and you probably nurtured yourself with it. And now you can have any at all... For the moment. But you will!! I'm 11 months post op and so far there's nothing I can't eat. Of course my portions are much much smaller. You will get here too. Just enjoy each day when the scale is showing you've lost weight. Enjoy feeling your belly shrinking and being able to move and breath better, being able to get on the floor and play with your child, and mostly the gift you are giving to your child that you will live longer!
  5. I wish I could offer you advice about this, but I haven't really been suffering from head hunger. Since my operation 11 months ago I have been delighting in my weight loss and how much better I feel both in body and soul. Do you still have poor food choices in the house ie junk food etc? If your family is eating this type of food perhaps this is a good opportunity to ask them for their support?
  6. It does pass! I am 11 months post op and have lost 106 lbs. All of us who have struggled with our weight at some point obsess with the numbers on the scale. If you must check the scale do it only once week. You don't have to weigh in to use fitness pal. Keep at it and stop worrying! Your stress about it may be part of what's keeping your weight from moving.

    A Sushi Nightmare,lesson Learned :(

I hope u will be able to eat sushi again. I can, but I didn't try eating it until I was about 7 post op. I only ate 2 pieces of a dragon then waited about 15 minutes or so and had 2 pieces of sashimi. No problems at all. Don't give up! Try it again in a few more months and take it slow. Good luck!
