I have always been conscientious about my weight. I thought I was fat while in high school because I weighed more than other girls. Looking back at my photos I looked good. But that began my roller coaster ride with my weight. I began skipping meals but then gorging myself when I did eat. An active person has to have fuel. When I had my first child I only gained 30 pounds but I didn't lose but half of that when I delivered her. Nine months later I'm pregnant again. Only gained 30 pounds again and didn't lose but half again. So now I'm up 30 pounds. Would diet and lose some weight but then get discouraged and gain it back plus 10. I have confounded doctors. 30 pounds was always my plateau. I have been on doctor supervised 1000 calorie diets got to 30 pounds lost eating only an apple, rice cake with peanut butter and not losing for 3 months having the doctor fuss at me for eating the peanut butter. Figured there was something wrong with the doctor with me not losing weight and only eating that small amount of food. I did have another doctor who tried glucophage to help me lose weight, this time I only lost 12 pounds and couldn't lose more. Glucophage is for dibetics, it makes you sick when you don't eat small healthy foods. When I got stuck at 12 punds for several months he took me off of the meds. I've tried many fad diets that came along. The one diet that worked was Atkins but I never went higher than the second step, after moving and not being able to have the salads I was always having, when I tried to start back up I couldn't face anymore salads and went back to my bad habits.

What I have now is not the stages where I was scared to progress to, but the final stage of what would have been Atkins, enjoying real food that is low carb. My dietician said my body has to learn to trust me again after all of my yo-yo dieting. She's right. My last appointment with her was in November and I have lost 8 pounds this month. Going on the 1 meal two protien shakes two weeks before my surgery has been rather easy. I started beginning of December drinking protein shake for breakfast and eating the other two meals. As required I started my two protein shakes and one meal it has not been that hard to adjust. Even with the holidays. I'm looking forward to starting out the New Year with a new me.

I'm using the same thought process I used when I quit smoking, I can have it later. So when I start craving things this is my mantra. It works psychologically because you are not denying yourself, you are delaying until the craving goes away. So far so good, with all the doughnuts, cakes, flan etc. that has been brought into the office this past month.

I had my surgery December 31st and I did so good I was able to go home January 1st. I started doing all the things the doctor and staff told me to do from the beginning. I think this helped. Also while at the hospital I got up and walked and moved around and did my breathing. Acid reflux has become a problem, thought it was gas at first, but I started taking medication for it and it has gone away.

One week out of surgery and I have lost 8lbs. Wow! Started taking on thicker liquids today also. No problems so far. Drank half a protein shake (premier from costco) for breakfast and half for lunch. Feeling fine. Not sure what has happened I gained 2lbs. Well I am getting close to my nemisis fo 30lbs. I'll need to be patient.

Today I went for my post op appointment. They took off the steristrips. Thank God they were itching. I also had a floroscope done to check to see if I'm leaking anywhere. I was good. Wow my stomach is little skinny thing now. Hope I will be also. I have been searching different sites for low carb foods and recipes. There sure are lot's of recipes out there, which is good. I love to cook and am excited to start living the new normal. Can't wait to try out all these new recipes, they are exciting!

It has now been 18 days since I had my surgery and I have lost 13 lbs. It is amazing. Total weight loss is now at 31 lbs. Few more pounds lost then I know I have broken the 30 lb nemisis. I'm so excited. I am more active now and feel more energized.
