  1. I've tried quite a few. So far my favorites are Oh Yeah, Unjury, and Matrix. For me the Muscle Milk Light is ok. I really didn't like the Nectar shakes with water but a lot of people love them. I definitely recommend trying some for sure!
  2. Yay! Thanks for all the support and prayers.
  3. I'm on a 2 week liquid only including protein shakes, broth, sf jello. I can tell I'm smaller (how my clothes fit) but I was just worried I was slow. I'll probably hit 11 or 12 pounds lost by Friday.
  4. I'm just trying to figure out what the norm is. I have a friend who's lost over 20 pounds in 2 weeks, but I've only lost 10 (in 1 1/2 weeks). I hope this doesn't mean I'm going to be a slow loser!
  5. So exciting!! I go in at 5:30am on Friday. I can't believe it's finally our turn! I'll be watching to see how you do, good luck!
  6. I guess I'm surprised that doctors are pushing/encouraging certain protein shakes and vitamins. My surgeon's office just gave me a list of choices (everything from Muscle Milk to Unjury or anything else). I also received a big bag full of vitamins to sample. So far the Fusion vitamins are ok, the Bariatric Advantage was AWFUL, and the Celebrate were pretty tasty. I haven't tried the Opurity yet, but intend to. You definitely don't want to have to spend so much money on a specific brand of shake or vitamin, especially when you're tastes change so much. Good luck!
  7. My surgery is Friday and while I've never even considered canceling, I have been super anxious. Your blog really helped! Thank you!
  8. I have stomach problems from protein drinks too. I've tried quite a few, but I still haven't found one that doesn't make me sick, mixed with water or milk. From what I understand sometimes the whey is the problem. If you continue to struggle speak with your doctor or dietician about this.
  9. Decided to let my 15 year old son invite a big group of kids over tonight to celebrate his birthday. I wasn't thinking about how hard it would be to have all these goodies around!! Nachos, cookies, treats, soda...it's killing me!
  10. I just did this yesterday! My questions were: what kinds of pain meds are used, do you use a drain tube, what bougie size will you use, and a few about my headaches from my preop diet. He was great about everything!
  11. I'm on clears + protein shakes. Essentially everything BUT the protein shakes are clear.
  12. Thanks for the advice. I have tried both mixed with water and skim milk and I seem to feel sick both ways. Once it's digested, I feel normal again, but by then it's time to drink another one! I'll try different temperatures. I have a sample of unflavored protein I might mix into soup and see if that sits better. Thanks again!
  13. Does anyone else get nauseated from protein shakes? Could that mean that I'm having a bad reaction? Or is it just hard to digest? Any advice would help!
  14. I'm on my preop diet as well and also have wicked headaches. I didn't drink hardly any caffeine the last two weeks before I starting my preop so I don't think mine is caffeine withdrawal. I saw my surgeon today and he said to drink more water and add an extra protein shake if needed. I'm miserable!!
  15. I'm still preop, but I speak from personal experience with past surgeries. You're doing too much too soon! Try and take it slowly do you don't overdo it. I've been there, you will heal.
  16. I can have 4 protein shakes. I've had broth twice today but I'm still hungry.
  17. I've also heard that sometimes hunger can be a sign of excessive acid and a need for a PPI.
  18. Yesterday was my first day and it wasn't so bad. Today is way harder! Plus, I'm on straight liquids. Only shakes, broth, sf jello and sf Popsicles. I'd kill for a piece of chicken.
  19. I hate this! Yesterday was easy, today's kicking my butt. Thing is, I don't have an empty stomach. I'm drinking my shakes and eating broth, but I feel fluid logged or something! Tell me it gets better....
  20. This exactly. I have no problem telling if they ask, but I won't just shout it out either. I understand some people's desire for privacy, but I'm okay with admitting I needed help.
  21. Danielle, I really think you're being too hard on yourself. As you know I'm preop too, but I can only assume and HOPE that we'll be able to tolerate the hunger better after surgery than before. Your preop diet is particularly strict too. Don't beat yourself up. If you had to eat something, eating tuna was a good choice.
