  1. I've noticed that people who have been sleeved or bypass end up having to have their gallbladder removed. The gallbladder is working extra hard on all the Protein intake. So gallstones become an issue. Dr s differ. Some remove the gallbladder with the sleeve or bypass why others wait and have to go in later to remove the gallbladder. Bothe my daughter and myself have had to have our gallbladder removed and now we re having issues with kidney stones. My girlfriend and her daughter also had the same issues

  2. I just read about Panera's Hidden Menu today. You won't see it anywhere in the store. You have to request an item specifically from the Hidden Menu.

Here are photos and descriptions of the choices:

    http://mypanera.panerabread.com/articlestips/article/access-into-paneras-hidden-menu/

    And nutritional information:

The so-called hidden menu has six items' date=' including the power breakfast egg white bowl with roasted turkey (180 calories; 25g protein), the power breakfast egg bowl with steak (230 calories; 20g protein), power Mediterranean chicken salad (360 calories; 35g protein), power Mediterranean roasted turkey salad (320 calories; 22g protein), power chicken hummus bowl (330 calories; 33g protein) and the power steak lettuce wrap (280 calories; 28g protein).

I can't wait to try the Power Breakfast Egg White Bowl![/quote']

Thank you sooo much! Great Job in keeping us all informed n sharing the love!

  3. My biggest fear was surviving the first month after surgery. My aunt had her stomach stapled back in the 80's and died from complications.

I choose the sleeve after having a failed Lapband that ulcerated. The sleeve does not have the malabsorption issues the bypass has and it does not stretch like the band and bypass does.

My doctor was recommended by another physician.

The risks are that if any other surgery as far as the sleeve there's also less than a 1% risk of a leak. The benefits are that it offers healthy weightloss with a better chance if maintaining a healthy weight for the rest if my life.

My asthma' date=' fibromyalgia, anxiety, and hypothyroidism are all under control. I hope to be off most if my meds within the next few months. I still have back and neck pain as I have herniated discs, however, I expect that to resolve too with the weightloss.[/quote']

Thank u for ur input, very interesting, very appreciated!

  4. My biggest fear was not beingbtuere for my kids. That is also what pushed me to have the surgery. I chose my Dr becuase they were a center of excellence. I also chose him because he conducted the seminar I attended and I was very impressed with him. I have lost 61lbs in 3.5 months. The changes have been phenomenal. I can breathe again. I can play with my kids again. My joints dont hurt.........the list goes on. I would do it again in a second.

Thank u so much for ur input!

  5. Here goes.

What is ur biggest fear? That I die on the table or have a leak that causes me more health issues than actually being my lifesaver. And not losing the weight or able to keep it off.

What made u decide to get the GS? I have tried everything else it seems' date=' and it literally cuts out some of your stomach and craving hormone. I never seem to feel full.

How did u pick ur Dr? Research and more research. Talked to patients, used Yelp, looked up top Drs. In US for GS. Lucky to find one of the pioneers where I live.

What are the risks, health benefits? Risks- your life. Benefits- becoming healthy.

What r some of the health issues ur experiencing? Getting rid of my pseduotumor cerebri, high cholestoral, weight, arthritis in knees, asthma possibly, and being able to breathe easily just doing any physical activity.

Pseudotumor cerebri. My body acts like I have a brain tumor when actually I don't. Look it up--could be cool for you to use as there are case studies saying WLS cures 80-90% of cases bc it is weight related.[/quote']

Thanks for ur input! I won't be using names. I really appreciate ur time!

  6. I am a doctor and I have seen all types of abdominal surgery complications. I think I have normal fears but would ultimately be scared that this wouldn't help me lose weight.

I chose my doc after looking through many and checking qualifications and the hospitals they work at. I did not want it done at my own hospital.

As for health benefits I hope to get' date=' I have terrible back pain from a car accident that left me unable to exercise like normal so I hope that getting rid of the weight will help with that.[/quote']

Thank u so much for ur input..!

  7. Biggest fear...it was always a leak. And I wasn't even afraid of losing large amounts of blood during surgery' date=' which caused spasm's for over 24 hours until I was finally given two transfusions...then laying in bed while my lung was being crushed by Fluid in the plural sac...tanking blood pressure...shall I go on? Oh did I mention a leak? So after all of that I only fear the loss of my stomach, or reoperation after testing at the end of the month (I had my first surgery in August). Did I mention I am a low BMI with no comorbidities who was told it was easy peasy surgery???? Ok so leaks...that was my fear and I got one with a tiger attached to it trying to eat me up.

Deciding on the surgery: I did this because it was supposed to be so safe. I did it for cosmetic reasons. My weight was not a health issue as much as it was bothering me when I saw pictures of myself. We are very public people, so I couldn't avoid that. I had gained weight during multiple failed pregnancies and IVF and at 49 it wasn't falling off like it used to. I thought this was a very low risk option with great long term benefits.

Picking the doc....I looked at bariatric centers of excellence, and for possible pending suits, malpractice issues, board disciplines, etc. In the end the doc who did my first surgery is not my doc now, but in picking the second, I threw out the BCOE because I think its BS and looked for the hospital in my area that was the best. I was lucky to have one of the best in the country close by.

Risks...Health benefits? Well I covered the risks but you risk leaks, which can damage your internal organs and can kill you. You risk dying of the anesthesia process or during surgery. You risk the complications associated with the leak, ie failure of those organs and then the chain reaction the body takes when that happens. Blood loss during surgery which requires transfusions...which have risks associated with them (Mostly Hepatitis). Financial risk...my bills, not counting the surgery, will be over half a million total for a surgery which was not covered by my insurance (so the risk of financial failure is very real if you have complications). I risked setting my son back months in his development...which I did due to my lack of ability to care for him. Ok is that enough? Benefits...I guess I'm losing weight so I have to say that's it. Otherwise none for me. I deeply regret taking this course.

Health issues I'm experiencing. I am still very weak months after the first surgery. My lungs are damaged and I have to take special precautions when ill because of the damage. I still don't know if the leak is cured, which means I have to stay on a more restrictive program than others would if they had their surgery in August. I can eat very little so I must manage my diet, which I knew to expect and am fine with, but it's a health issue (self inflicted). I still worry that I might have to have another surgery or lose my stomach (though things look good now).[/quote']

Thank u so much for ur input

  8. People do notice but r afraid to ask. I went down 2sizes n when I finally wore medium scrubs, most of the staff started commenting "it's about time u wear clothes that fit. Ur other uniforms were falling off u" so, they had noticed but didn't say anything. Me, I'm very blunt. I ll tell u the truth n say "ur losing weight, u look good.. Keep it up!"

But it does feel good when they acknowledge it! I know exactly how u feel. Even my close friend who had gastric bypass doesn't acknowledge it. I finally said ,"Cecilia, look at my pic on my iPad( which was a year old)..do I look the same? She said, mmmm u look a lil thinner around ur chin"

I couldn't believe it! But maybe, jealousy has a lot to do with it.at least that's what my fiancé says.

But, I will tell u.. Good job, I know it was hard. Keep it up!

  9. Thank you for the info' date=' I was starting to worry. The doctor put me on carafate and it's not really helping much. How about the hunger? I'm not really hungry as of yet but I can't really feel and pressure with drinking the liquids. when did you start taking your Vitamins and did you crush them at first to get them down?[/quote']

Hi, I too had a hernia repair with my surgery. I didn't have any nausea or vomiting. My nurse in the hosp said for me to stay on warm liq. Not cold. And to drink 1oz evry 15minutes. To decrease any discomfort. I didnt take my vitamins till 2weeks postoperative chewable. I did have an increase in belching n burping , it was so embarrassing but it decreases n stops. Don't drink ur liq fast u will feel the pressure....remember, drink it slow like a Lady! Lol, it works.

  10. I am 48 y/o and have been an ER nurse for 25 years--I am being sleeved on 9/17th --am very excited and a little scared' date=' but ready for this new chapter in my life!![/quote']

I was sooo scared the day of surgery. I was thinking of refusing surgery. I cried n prayed till the last minute. Bcs being a nurse u know too much...I had a nurse pray over me before I went into surgery. But I did what I had to do and I did fine. I got up and walked like I was suppose to. Once I got home I did great. I didn't take the oral liq pain med cause it was a lot. But I didn't need it. The more active I was the better I felt. But, everyone's different. Good Luck, I ll be praying for you!

  11. Hello to all my Nursing Sisters! I've been in nursing 33yrs. I m a pedi nurse, and was was sleeved on June 25. I was out 10 days.

I've lost 40#. I've gone from wearing a real tight XL scrubs to a loose Large. I need to invest in med. scrubs but I'm soooo proud of myself and to be able to bend without feeling like I'm suffocating myself. To be able to cross my legs freely without having to lift n cross my legs by pulling on my pant leg. My blood pressure is normal 118/56 without any meds...woohoo! Good Luck to everyone! This is the best decision I've ever made..
