MoreganK reacted to Amom2twins in 2 Weeks Post-Op & Feeling Great!
I had my surgery on June 5th & had my 2 week post-op dr. visit yesterday. I have lost 25 lbs so far, I almost cried when I found out because I was so happy. I don't have a scale at home so the number was a total surprise. Other than some pain at the incision sites, I have had no other issues. I totally expected to feel nausea or feel tired but none of that has happened. This was the best thing I ever did for myself. I am doing lots of walking, so off I go for another walk!

MoreganK reacted to CowgirlJane in 6 Months Post Revision - So Incredibly Pleased With My Results!
I started my pre-op diet 11/28/11 at 308; weighed 300 on the morning of my surgery 12/12/11. I was warned that since i didn't do well with the band, I might be a slower loser, i might have learned to "stuff" my esophogus and have poorer results. Well, all I have to say is if my results are "poor", I don't know what good results would look like!!! Yesterday (Monday) I weighed in at 212#!!! 96 pounds shed since I started that pre-op diet. I can hardly believe it.
I went on an annual camping event and one person didn't even recognize me! I feel like myself again. I feel like the person who is capable of doing physical things, enjoying my horses, playing with my dogs, going for hikes all the stuff I used to love. My life is oh so much better.
I have a ways to get to my goal, but honestly, I feel like I have already succeeded - my main objective was to improve health and have a better life and that has already happened! I don't have to shop the plus sections anymore!
The band was a struggle for me, for probably lots of reasons. I tried to learn from that experience and apply to the sleeve but also to let go of the negatives of the band. I can eat salad, I can eat veggies, actually I can pretty much eat anything with the sleeve, just in small portions. I don't need to eat "slider" foods because I no longer fear vomiting, I am actually satiated after meals. I am not in pain and still hungry, I feel pretty normal.
I know that the long term maintenance is the real battle, but I feel like I finally have a tool to help me succeed!
I was terrified of this surgery since the revision risks are definately higher then a "virgin" sleeve, but for me, it has been just a marvelous journey so far! I am so glad I took this risk, this chance, to get my life back.

That is wild! My best friend lives in Cypress and is school teacher in Cy-Fair. My husband and I just moved to Dickinson a year ago to be closer to family and our church. So is your surgeon in the Houston area? What hospital is your surgery going to be at? My doctor is Dr. Shernan Yu at TLC, (their commercials air all the time)... Lol So what is your PRE-OP diet?

Hey Ladies! I live in Cypress! I was sleeved on 6/13!

MoreganK got a reaction from Failure in ".... But You're Not That Big"
I've been told that exact statement many times. I've also had other colorful backhanded compliments such as, "Wow, if you lost a little weight you'd be smokin'" or, "If you lost weight you could be a model!" Really!? Really!?
Most recently, I had some people tell me that I don't have nearly as far to go as some other people do, and it will be a piece of cake for me because I'm not "that big." Mostly, it just made me feel uncomfortable.

For the Protein drinks, have you tried nut milks? My nutritionist recommended that I use plain soy or almond milks instead of cow's milk. She said that the lactose in the cow's milk is a sugar, and if I can avoid it in my milk, then that much better! Even though they are yummy, while you're healing, steer clear of the flavored soy or almond milk, they do have a little bit of added sugar. Silk is the brand that I prefer most for both of these, and is relatively easy to find in most grocery stores.
I also was told to get the flavorings that you buy for baking to add to my shakes or puddings. Add a couple of drops of vanilla, rum, almond, orange, etc... to help the taste or just for variety. My nutritionist suggested also getting the super soft tofu to blender in to shakes and pudding to hide Protein that way.
I'm not where you are yet, so I'll be watching this thread! My surgery is 6/27! I'm in that excited/nervous place now.

Moregan, i cut the quash in half, put about 1/2-3/4 inch of Water in baking dish and stick in the oven. I leave in until the outside of the squash becomes pliable or I can stick a fork through easily. Take it out and flake or scrape out the "noodles" it should have the texture of "al dente" Pasta.< /p>

I was sleeved 7 weeks ago and I tolerate Pasta ok. Of course we are talking very small amounts, but one thing my nutrionist suggested was Quinoa pasta. It has Protein and to be honest I prefer it to any whole wheat, tofu or any other type of pasta substitute I have tried you can get it at most health stores, or Publix (here in the South East) maybe target?? or even Wal-Wart maybe.

I know this feeling all too well. I think the people that say this to us mean well but it hurts just the same. Now that i have lost almost 90 pounds, they say things like "I didnt realize you were that big" or "but you werent that big", etc. Those comments belittle my accomplishments. It makes me feel bad like I didnt deserve this second chance because I hadnt done as much damage to my body as others have or let myself get as large as others did. Its a personal decision to have this tool and to become healthy. I dont care what size you start out, the outcome of living a healthy life is whats important. Whether you have to lose 100 pounds or 200 or 300, it shouldnt matter. The journey to get healthy is the same, we go though the same trials and tribulations and we should not be belittled or made to feel that we dont deserve any help or that our accomplishments are somehow lessened by our starting weight. I have been on a diet for 20 years and if diet and exercise worked by itself, I wouldnt have been 100 pounds overweight and feel yucky all the time. I am proud of my 90 pound loss and I am still working at it to lose the other 12. We should all be supporting each other, not downgrading the ones with less to lose with these hurtful comments, especially at a support group. Everyone should feel supported that we all understand what the others are going through and starting weight should not be a factor.

Hey Y'all! Had surgery on Monday and I am so BLESSED!!! My doc was able to do my revision as well!! WhooHoo!!! I don't have to go back in August to get sleeved!!!!
He said everything went really well, if long. I went in about 10:30 and made the recovery room (which I have no memory of!) about 1/1:15-ish. I did bleed enough for him to mention it but nothing overtly worrying. He was a little surprised was all. Said I had very little scar tissue so doing the revision was a no-brainer for him and he was happy to do it.
Monday night was a little rough. I went too long between pain med doses and got in to a little too much pain/uncomfortablness with it. My BP spiked up to 168/115 and to say my nurse wasn't happy is an understatement. When she checked me again 2 hrs later, after the pain meds had kicked in, I was back in a good place again.
Tuesday was good, drank my 2 oz of shake for Breakfast and again for lunch. Then they went ahead and gave me more at dinner since it was taking so long for the pharmacy to process my Rxs to go home. Didn't finish it b/c my wheelchair arrived and it was time to go home!
Long trip home. An hour. In a 4x4 on big tires and cruddy mtn roads. Took more pain meds and went to bed! Slept well. Had some nausea this morning and dry-heaved for a bit. Called in and got an Rx for nausea. Hubby went and got that for me and I've been fine since.
Getting ready to head to bed in a bit. My kindergartener has "graduation" in the morning and I think I'll be up for it! Very happy about that! I'll be doped up but I'll be there!!!
So that's it in a nutshell. So glad to be on the other side of it all.
Best wishes to all who are following!!!!
