One Week To Go.... Week 1 Pre-Op Diet Complete.
LOL - nothing interesting about it! Sugar free jello and popsicles are nice and they are a little solid. Bullion is good too, there are different flavors of that, just make sure you get extra water to flush out the salt.

Whoohoo
Well hello surgery buddy! Mine is for Monday too! Best to be careful then to have problems develop because of those drainage issues. Hope mine isn't cancelled but if it is hope I can feel the same greatfulness I do for you having a diligent doctor that cares about your health first and not just making $$

I'm So Fearful Of Surgery / Anasthesia!
I have had few surgeries and been under anesthesia and always came out okay, but still I have a tiny bit of concern that maybe this time it won't be that way, even though I am pretty sure that it will. I think it is just natural to wonder how things will turn out when someone else has complete control over your body. I am letting God have each time the thought enters my mind. I have however placed all my important documents in the hands of those that would need them.

I Have Been Horrified By The Chewable Vitamin Samples
My doctor also had these Fusion Vitamins and told me this would be all I needed 3x a day. He said that if at blood work time I needed more Iron or anything else then I could start taking the supplements. Have you found these have been enough?

I Am More Than Just A Weight Loss Surgery!
It's funny that so many in the medical field have not heard of this surgery. My sister-in-law had the Gastric Bypass 4 years ago and is a registered XRAY techinician in a hospital and she had no idea what I was talking about. Fortunately, I have complete support of everyone that I have shared with. My family and most of my friends know. And, fortunately they only asked questions in the beginning and that was regarding the procedure and if I was comfortable that I could remain healthy over the long term. This was my explanation to them: I have done my research for the last couple years and I don't want the by-pass or lap-band, however for about a year I was researching the lap-band and going back and forth on whether I would do it or not, liking that it was reversible. Not liking the re-routing of the RYN. But, then I accidentally happened upon the Sleeve and was at first freaked that they remove that much of the stomach, but it made sense to allow that restriction, since this is one of the main issues....too much food. I struggled with "Am I crazy to have them remove part of my body in order to win this battle?" But, eventually I came to the realization that I am trying to overcome my diabetes, high blood pressure, weight, over working my other body parts carrying the weight and become healthy overall. The Sleeve would allow me to do this. And......everyday doctors are removing parts of peoples bodies to improve their health situation.....gall bladder, appendix, etc. After that the questions were pretty much gone and they left it alone. My 16 year old daughter is funny, normally she allows me to fix her dinner and such, but since I started my Pre-Op she has insisted every night that she is good and can do it herself. How sweet that she is silently supporting me and understanding that fixing her food might tempt me! I will be praying that your approval comes fast and that your friends become tongue tied! LOL

Preop Diet Stress
Amen vsgmarys! Put the scale away and do what you know you are supposed to do! Log your food intake and take in your logs and have the nurse put them in your chart so when your doctor comes around if you are 267 he can see that you followed his guidelines and by george your body is stubborn and went into starvation mode, so not your fault!! Well that's what I am going to do anyways!

How Did You Choose Your Screen Name?
I have changed my name a couple of times since I signed up for this board. My old name MickeyMouse50 represents my real given name of Mickey and of course all my life people have called me Mickey Mouse. In fact on the phone when I give my name I say "Mickey, like the mouse" and they usually get it right instead of writing down Nicki or Vicki. And 50 is my age. My new name comes from something I read today that really struck me in the core of my heart and is what I am seeking to do with my surgery and that is to liberate myself and let my light fully shine. Here is the quote I took from someone else's comments: OUR DEEPEST FEAR IS NOT THAT WE ARE INADEQUATE Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkenss, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that Other people won't feel insecure around you. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously Give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fear, Our presence automatically liberates others. Nelson Mandela

What Scares You?
Thanks Suzanne for your looooonnnnngggg post! I have done alot of research and watched this site and read these stories for some time before I actually joined in. I picked up some new items from your post and am grateful for that. I am encouraged by you and your age. Since I am 50, have diabetes, high blood pressure and sleep apnea I am preparing myself that it may take me a little longer to heal then it would have 10 years ago, but that if I am patient and follow my doctor's orders to the T it will be a success. I am very confident in my surgeon and even more so after reading your post because nearly every point you made he or his staff have covered with me. My process moved alot quicker then even I expected it to. I went to my seminar on January 16 and started my Pre-Op diet on February 24 and my surgery date is March 5. I have excellent insurance who did not require me to jump through hoops but they do require I pay a portion of the hosptial's fees for the surgery. So even today I was struggling with should I put my portion of the surgery cost on a credit card or postpone my surgery until I had the cash to cover it. So one of the best things you said (for me anyways) was....."You know we never think twice about making car payments. If you have to borrow the money for this surgery just look at this as “body payment.” That is so true, this is an investment in the rest of my life and therefore putting my portion on my credit card is so worth it!! Only the Lord knows how many dinners I have paid for with a credit card doing the social thing! God bless you and I hope that we become friends during our journeys!

Pre-Op Liquid Diet...
My Pre-Op diet is very similar to yours CarlosG, but don't start the vitamin/antibotic/etc regimen until after surgery. Currently taking the mulitvitamins and Calcium Citrate though. I agree I have been hungry, but knowing I get a meal at night has made it bearable. My doctor told me if throughout the day it becomes ugly and I become ugly (irritable - ) I can have a cup of bullion to help. The heated drink does help. So I have used decaffinated hot tea as well. Good luck!!
