mufasas-mom got a reaction from AdeptDreamer in Approved.....yippee For Me....
Well, you guys were right - 3 business day's and I had my approval from UHC - they are awesome. So I call my doctor's office to inform them and to see if I can make my pre-consult appt with surgeon and get a surgery date...but they have to confirm it themselves first. they only work 1/2 day on Friday's just like me, So i warned them that I'd be callin twice a day next week so we can get this rolling - as the surgeon is only in the Richardson office on Thursdays.....
I'm so excited I'm just beside myself and I got my passport in the mail yesterday so I'm ready for travel once the pounds disappear!!!
going to be a great weekend........
thanks for all the kind words during this waiting for approval process!! I am so glad i have UHC.

what 'horror stories' are you referring to? I've not really seen too many - except for the unfortunate leaks and such- but even those seem to be small in numbers - at least compared to the horror stories of people with the lap band.

wow - sorry you are going through this, but like prettysleeved1 said - at least he's not a husband. Sorry to say this, but your psychiatrist is 100% correct, these issues are going to continue to grow until they are dealt with, honestly. Don't stay with someone just to have someone....I see this so often and it's so sad....everyone deserves more. I stayed in a bad marriage for 9 years as he always made comments like you posted initially - and i was a SIZE 3 - just had 2 kids.....and was told I was fat....finally woke up and left him and never looked back. I see my friends in relationships where they are always trying to change the guy - and then complain when it doesn't happen. I prefer to be alone and happy - then with someone and miserable.
I'll find mine again....but now I have to concentrate on ME and getting this surgery towards better health is the first step.
I wish you the best, but please don't let anyone make you feel less of person - that is NOT love.

Please remember - it's just hair....after going through many rounds of chemo - and losing my hair...it's just not that big in the grand scheme of things....weight loss = healthy weight = healthy you. there is nothing more important then getting healthy.
You are halfway to your goal - concentrate of the positives....hair will always grow back- maybe since it's summer you can get a really cute short haircut

hello - just found this page - been on these forums for a few months now. I'm Diane - live in North Texas and waiting to be sleeved. All my insurance docs were turned in to UHC this past Friday - called today and it's 'in process' - so hopefully I'll be one of those quick turn arounds and get approved before the week is over....
I'm just so happy to have this option of surgery and get my life back..
My starting weight is 201 - I'm at 195 now. BMI is still over 40, so that's ok for insurance purposes. Hoping to get down to 120 pd range by next March but I do understand that I'll be one of those slow losers and I'm fine with that. Just want to reverse the diabetes and get healthy again.
I have not found many people on these forums who are vertically challenged, as I was trying to see their starting weight and where they are now...
hopefully I'll see everyone on the losers bench soon.

thanks for the info - I've been doing push-ups and light upper body exercises with my 10 pd dumbells for over 3 weeks now to prep myself - I am working on making those 3rd adn 4th boobies disappear and it appears that only push-ups will really help, as I can see them disappearing!! I weigh 195 now - started at 202, but I am only 4'11" - so every 15 pounds on me is a dress size - and by building back up my muscles I can burn more calories while resting and getting the fat burning process started.

I had my final visit at TR today - but won't see Dr Mardsen till insurance is approved (sent in today) and the results from the freaking H-Pylori test. but all in all I have really had a good experience with TR in Richardson and even though they know WHAT the insurance company is looking for, I have stayed on top of it as well for my personal peace of mind.
Glad you like Dr Mardsen - all I've heard in really kind words about him and his personality.

finally after 6 months.....there could be one hiccup - h-pylori test done today. they said they are sending in the all the paperwork for insurance approval today, and that it's not pending the results of the h-pylori - however - if positive, surgery would be probably pushed from end of August to end of Sept....I am hoping i DO NOT get a phone call tomorrow when the lab work is back......
otherwise she said UHC was one of the better insurances to work with and we'd get something back within 7 days.... SO i won't call and bother the UHC people till next Wednesday!
I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel......

At 23 you are an adult and were mature enough to do your research. I just pointed out a pattern of immaturity regarding nutrition and decision making which at 18-20 appears to seriously lacking. Whoever their surgeons are it appears they did not do their due diligence for their patient.

I have seen multiple posts regarding ppl not doing pre-op diets correctly and eating WAY too soon after surgery and the common denominator is their AGE. These are children getting sleeved without psych appts and proper knowledge of nutrition. There should be age appropriate classes that are mandatory. Their maturity level to deal with this lifetime change just is not there yet. It saddens me knowing the road they will face without the proper tools for success

    mufasas-mom got a reaction from Christine1322 in Co-Workers.....
Well, I've been very vocal about having this surgery and my boss, HR and most of my 'work' friends know as well as immediate family. Now that the date is getting closer, one of my 'work' friends (I really hate to actually call her a friend, she is really just a co-worker, as she's done lots of not very nice things to me over the years...but I don't dwell on that negative crap) she is saying things like - I can't believe you'd have surgery JUST to lose weight....so she went to the company gym (we have one here at the office) and spoke with the trainer and such and told him that she'd like to lose weight the CORRECT way, not by having surgery - I was standing right there.....it was like WOW, really - I walked away before my mouth said something I'd regret- pretended to look at the weight machines.
On the way back to our desks - my comment to her was - losing weight is a challenge, at my age and being recently diagnosed with diabetes (5 months ago) I know what I NEED to do, and for me this surgery is to save my life to extend my life - not to just lose weight so i can buy cute clothes again, but to each their own, what works for you is for you - my decision to take back control of my life is my decision. If you are not going to support me, then let's just not discuss it. She got pissy and walked off......but came around later like nothing was wrong.
I don't really care what anyone says about me having this surgery - I know it's the right thing for ME - the hell with everyone else......it is ALL ABOUT ME at this time in my life.
    This is my time.......

as a parent - I'd be just as worried as her parents. it's not about letting kids live their own lives, being a parent doesn't go away when you kids grow up, trust me. all parents want their kids safe and sound, that's all - and yes, the media does paint a horrible picture and i know that all of Mexico is not that way - but there are definately areas to avoid and i'm sure that none of the surgery centers in mexico is anywhere close to them.
do your homework and present it to your parents, showing them where you will be and such and how the staff will care for you while you are there. they just need to be reassured and I'm sure they will support you at that time.

mufasas-mom got a reaction from slojo67 in Is Anyone Else Scheduled For August?
that's so funny - my daughter and i are also planning a 'girls' vacation in March 2013 we are going to Cozumel for a week - i've been purchasing size 8 shorts, and new swimsuits already - I can't wait to drop at least 40-50 pounds by march of 2013 (7 months of being banded).
my last visit with true results is Aug 1st - then submit paperwork that day (at least that's what they tell me) - should be banded sometime late in August (pushing for end of the month due to holiday on Sept. 3rd - that will give me time for the 2 week pre-op diet.
so freaking excited to get this going after the 6 month dreaded wait......
