Will Start Solid Food Soon - Need Opinion On Some Foods..
Hi, I will be starting solid food in 2 weeks (YAY!). And I need your valued opinion on some stuff. I want to try some food but I want to know if I'll get in the required amount of Proteins with these items. 1) Many have commented that they eat cottage cheese for Protein. I love cottage cheese but I'm a bit skeptical about it because of the fat content. I know there are some low-fat brands but I dont get many options in India. So, do you think it is advisable to have regular cottage cheese? How many grams of protein do you think it has in, say, 3 one inch cubes (coz that is what I think I can handle for a day with my sleeve LOL) 2) I rarely eat non-vegetarian food. I only take eggs regularly. So I'm out of touch eating chicken though I used to LOVE it in my school days. I'm planning to start eating chicken when I start solid food. Now, I was wondering how many pieces I'll be able to eat for a meal and how much protein I'll get from it. I know everyone has a diff capacity but I just want to get a rough idea. 3) Some say they eat peanuts, roasted soybeans etc. I'm again skeptical about these because of the fats. Your opinion pls... I welcome any other suggestions from you. I want to have a protein rich diet when I start the solid phase coz I haven't really been able to get as much protein as required till now. Though I'm making sure my food is low carb and low calories, I havent been concentrating on proteins. I just take 1 protein mix a day (20 gms protein), 2 egg whites (6.5 gms protein), lentils and pulses 2 times daily (10 gms protein), milk twice daily (3 gms protein). I barely get in 40 gms of proteins a day. Though I dont have any complications I really dont want to mess up because of my carelessness. PS: What do you think is the healthy amount of fat and carbs that I can take in a day?

Cookies
Better to cheat in your dreams than in reality. But seriously, a cookie or two a week is not going to injure us. So dream away and indulge occassionaly. But keep track of how often you indulge.

No Weight Loss With My New Sleeve This Week
Dont worry. Stalls are very common in this journey. I'm 6 weeks post op and havent lost weight for almost a week now. Same thing happened to me on the 3rd week too, but in the mid of 4th week I lost about 4.5 pounds so I wouldnt be bothered. Your sleeve will never go wrong. It just takes time to adjust.

How Long Does Hair Loss Last?
From what I've read in this forum about this topic, everyone says that you never go bald - thats a good news! Coz I have had very thin hair even pre-op. That said, it is good to take iron and vitamin meds for hair loss. My doc prescribed some for me and it does make a difference though only to a smaller degree for me because there was not enough 'material' to begin with LOL

Soup-a-Woman: Totally off topic - but I mistakenly clicked the Report button on your comment instead of Quote button the first time. But I closed the link right away so I dont think anything major happened. But just wanted to let you know - just in case. Totally unintentional and all blame goes to my stupid stupid mouse pointer that is not moving as fast as I desire.

Protein Powder In Orange Juice...
Thanks, Liliana! The 'grainy' stuff is not much of a problem. I just thought a smooth mix will make me look forward to the Protein mix that much more.. But I have to say - mixing it with Orange juice is soooo much better than mixing it with milk/water!!

Concerns
Hmm -- I kinda feel the same way too. I wouldnt say I would be bitter, but perhaps a bit cynical. I surely wouldnt know what to do with the extra attention. However, this surgery surely has boosted my self confidence. I was never short on confidence with anything related to my work or my studies or my personality. But I never realized that the self-image that I had on my mind about myself was purely as a 'brainy'. All my colleagues call me that and I didnt realize that I was in that cacoon and have been hesitating to see me in another dimension - purely physical. Even now, 6 weeks past surgery, I'm just learning to accept my body as part of that self-image. This surgery was my only chance at a healthy life. But it feels good to know that it has so many un-anticipated good side-effects. legnarevocrednu - I wish you all success in your journey!

Is Anyone Else Able To Eat A Whole Lot?
WHOA! You are right - I dont think an average sleever out 2 months will be able to eat that much. I'm 6 weeks post-op and it takes me a good 20-25 mins to finish off 2 boiled egg whites. Even after two weeks, I dont think I'll be able to cut down the time. I dont mean to sound rude or anything - but do you think you are missing the 'full' signal? I did during the first week when I was on clear liquid diet, and only after I have a clear burp did I end sipping my soup. So probably you are missing the signals and thinking you aren't full yet? But it would be a good idea to bring this up to your doc when you next visit them. All the best!

Protein Powder In Orange Juice...
Hi, I tried Protein powder with orange juice -- it is soooo yummy. Almost like a milk shake but not quite - coz the powder is not mixing well with my orange juice even after I mixed it in a blender for about 30 seconds. I use Optifast (a Nestle product) coz thats what my doc prescribed. As I have said before, I'm from India and dont know much abt the other products. I'll be asking about other brands available here to my doc when I visit him two weeks later. But I was just wondering if I need to add something else to the mix to make sure the powder is not 'lumpy' (for the lack of a good word - coz its not really lumpy - it is just sort of grainy). Any thoughts?

Day 8 And Im Wondering About Pureed Soup .?
I really dont know if that will damage your sleeve, however, if I learned one thing from this board it is this: Try to follow your doctor's advice to a T. Maybe some sleevers would have slightly deviated from the diet plan and did not get into any complications. But I believe the docs prepare your diet plan after considering various factors which are not apparently clear to us. So why mess with a newly done sleeve. But thats just my thought.

Random Thoughts
I wish you great success!! I'm 6 weeks post op and still have not started on my treadmil. I tried to get on it on the 4th week, but I got a stinging pain in my largest incision whenever I tried the treadmil. I will give it a try tomo :-)

Heartburn?
I had to take meds for heartburn only for the first month and it caused a bit of giddiness. Once I was off the meds I was completely okay. I guess it depends on the person.
