  1. Thanks everyone for the information! I seem to be addicted to the site it's so awesome to be able to get information from people who have had the surgery.

I love your post. Sounds so much like my own experience. I didn't realize how eating was so much of my life until I started fearing not being able to eat after surgery. I to was taught to finish my plate. Food has always been a comforter to me. While I hate to admit feeling a sense of loss that I will no longer experience the comfort of one of my favorite foods when I need it I am super excited to gain my life back and finding new sources of enjoyment. Thanks for the post. Surgery is coming on Wednesday and I can't seem to get enough of this site.
  3. I have that med also but under another name Carafate. My doctor states it's like a coating for the tummy. My coworker recently had surgery and states that it helps a lot.
  4. Hey my operation is Wednesday. Like you my nerves have gotten the best of me. Keep in touch it will be great to have someone to chat with as we go through each stage. Good luck and praying for speedy recovery.
  5. Thanks Lissa. I actually start the acid meds the night before surgery. I was just curious. So many people struggling with nausea and I just spent a ton on prescriptions. I was hoping they worked a little, lol. Thanks again for answering. Can't wait to get this over with if my nerves don't kill me. Ugh so excited but super nervous. These next couple of days are going to be something.
  6. Hey everyone my surgery is scheduled for next wed 2/29. I've been reading a lot of post about newbies having a lot of nausea. I have a ton of prescription meds. To include ondansetron & promethazine to control nausea n one also controls vomiting. Zegerid to control acid. I have some pain meds and other stuff for my stomach to heal. Anyway just wondering if anyone else had access to these meds or similar ones and did they help???
  7. Any posts on how much you guys had to pay would be helpful!! Your insurance sounds identical to mine. The hospital will allow me to make payments on my portion. Hour this helps
  8. My nerves are in overdrive just checking if anyone else has surgery next week. If so are you as nervous as I am. I'm super excited but do not want to end up having a horror story to share. This site had been awesome. I haven't been sleeping well so I just pull up my app. on my phone and all the success stories are awesome.
  9. Welcome. I just discover this site also. My surgery is 2/29 in less then a week which explains why I'm up at 4:30. My nerves seem to be in overdrive these days!!! Good luck on your journey. I started around mid December. Could have probably gotten a date sooner but took my time making all my appointments. Your family may change their mind after sugery when they see how healthy and happy you are. I'm the fatty in my family also and find that skinny people who can eat all they want and never gain a pound can never understand my weight issues.
  10. My surgery is scheduled for 2/29. My doc says most people need 4-6 weeks to recover but sometimes less depending on the job. Not sure how I'm going to feel and hopefully will gave a speedy recovery. At this point I an going to take off two weeks and do two weeks of 1/2 days. Also I just told my boss surgery for female issues. That tends to stop further questions.

  12. I hear the same thing your not really heavy enough. I generally answer that my diabetes and BMI says otherwise. I'm scheduled for surgery on 2/29. I honestly think the general public is just ignorant about weight loss surgery. You hear comments like that person only lost weight because of surgery. Many people aren't aware of everything that comes with surgery. Weight doesn't magically drop off it still requires eating well and exercise. Hopefully with time people will gain more knowledge on weight loss surgery and get rid of the judgemental comments. Just venting
  13. That sounds like my numbers. Tired of all of the insulin and feeling tired all the time! I know I will have some side effects but has to be better. Thanks for your story. Hey by the way how do you add the ticker on your profile. Thanks
  14. I originally posted this in the pre op but realize now maybe it should be in the post. So I'm scheduled for surgery on 2/29. My BMI is 36 (5'7 240). I have severe diabetes that helped me get approved with my insurance. I've been a diabetic for approximately 5 years.I was put on insulin the day I was diagnosed. Problem is all of my diabetes medications continue to make me gain weight. While I definitely need to LOSE WEIGHT and my BMI makes me obese I also know that my BMI is low for BS. I'm very hopeful that I see some significant changes with my diabetes after the surgery. I also don't want to end up weighing 95 pounds which my doctor assures me won't happen. Just wanted to see if anyone has a similiar story and how are you now?
  15. I'm scheduled for surgery on 2/29. Just curious you stated in your post that you are eating solid foods? Are you seeing a nutritionist? Mine won't have me eating solid food for awhile. Just curious?
  16. I will definitely keep you updated. hoping for great results
  17. Yea my nutrionist said she's seen people change after surgery but I'm not holding my breath.
  18. One thing I forgot to mention in my earlier post. The psychologist who did my eval said that there is a great success rate for diabetics and the sleeve. The sleeve is just newer and there is not as much data. Just FYI.

  20. Yea I know that there is a chance it could cure my diabetes my primary doctor really tried to get me to do it. But honestly I guess I read to many horror stories online and it scared me. I called back and actually changed my procedure. It was a hard decision to make with a lot of praying involved. I know now that my diabetes may not go away completely but I'm hoping to be no longer insulin dependent. The side effects of gastric bypass scared me. The dumping syndrome alone was enough. Good luck with your decision.
  21. I was in a pretty similar situation. My diabtes is pretty bad. My BMI is not that high but the diabetes got me approved. My doctor said the same thing about diabetes reversing. I had a hard decision to make but after A LOT of research I decided to go with the sleeve. I'm really scared of the side effects of gbs. I did find out that there is a huge chance of diabetes getting better with the sleeve. I think overall its a personal choice. My last visit my doctor said he's confident my diabetes will improve. My surgery is 2/29. Check in for updates. Praying for good results. Do your research and talk to another doctor.
  22. Thanks for all of the good information. I'm lactose intolerant now but my nutrionist says that may change. I wondered about the cooking for my boys (14 &16). Im going to cook this weekend. It will keep me busy. Im excited but my nerves are starting to get to me.
  23. Hey guys my surgery date is scheduled for 2/29. I'm so nervous and excited. Having two teen boys I am looking for tips on savings my first few weeks after surgery when I am on protein. What's the best shakes to get the most protein. Any recipes for shakes that don't taste horrible and had lots of protein? Thanks
  24. Hey like you the waiting was driving me crazy so I called my insurance company and they were able to tell me over the phone I was approved. Good luck
