Eating Does Get Better....4 Weeks Post Op
For the guys out there (and gals) that were worried about if they could ever eat a normal portion of a food or drink after their sleeve, for my experience its yes. I'm four weeks out from surgery and never had any food or drink issues. Today I downed a whole 11 oz Protein shake with ease with no bad feeling afterward. Also I'm having normal portions of things like roast beef and fish. Mind you I've now been trained to eat slower and I'm paying attention to properly chewing things. Maybe its were I'm still eating softer foods...but I'm moving more toward my protein goals from foods from shots and shakes...which is great. The atkins bars make for a great high protein snack and greek vanilla yogurt. My diet for this week will consist of deli turkey breast dipped in spicy mustard maybe wrapped in 2% milk cheese, denty moore beef stew, campbells chunky Soups, frozen fish and salmon, canned chili. My sleeve absolutely loves WHEAT THINS...has for over a week now. I guess its where it chews up into a nice mush. For the folks who loved meat before, the post op diet is going to fill right back into track.... thought I'd share that! Worm

Eight Weeks Out And Im At A Stall, Why? What Can I Do To Jump Start This?
Same here..I've hit the 3 or 4 week stall. Dropped 40 pounds in 2 and half weeks...now dropped like 4 in a week. I figured it was just the body adjusting back from the shock of surgery. I'm still watching what I eat and doing healthy choices so I figured I'm doing my part. COME ON SLEEVE GET BACK AT IT

Recommend A Great Protein Bar
for side protein I use Greek Vanilla yogurt (15 grams of protein tastes great goes down smooth) and for others I use the Atkins bars. I try to find the ones with lower calories but with higher protein. I just had a peanut butter bar one that had 19 grams of protein, 1 gram of sugar...but has 220 cals...based on what I've ate for the day I was able to fit it in.

What's A High Protein Drink?
I too use the pure protein brand of pre-made drinks in a can. Walmart has the Choc and Vanilla kind..or you can order different flavors online

Wastefulness
This was my biggest thing to overcome and realizing that showed how much I was really over eating just to not waste anything. Its just something I've come to expect now...at least we have plenty of leftovers!

Special K Protein Shake..thoughts?!
They tatste great but TOO much sugar. I stopped buying them after that. Look for shakes like Ensure that have 5 grams of sugar or less.

Giving Blood?
Odd that you mention getting light headed when getting out of a chair. This happens to me also BUT only in my living room recliner after I've been sitting for a bit..What would be the cause of that? It never happened prior to surgery

So Very Frustrated!
No worries..I'm on my 3rd week stall as well..but I can't complain in over two weeks I lost 40 pounds and been the same weight for the past 5 days

Caloric Intake Too Low?
Yea Im two weeks post op but only getting around 300 cals in a day...no worries though I don't feel it. Living on vitamins and the energy from the "B" vitamins keep me charged up. Living on reserves and vitamins has helpped me lose over 30 pounds in two weeks. Good luck with those isopure drinks..I HATE THEM...I moved over to the Gatorade recovery's which have protein in them and taste much better!

My Incisions Are Worrisom
Yea you should go back into the doc. There is a protective glue thats suppose to be over the wounds. The glue on me lasted two weeks before it started pealing and then when I took them off last night my sites were FULLY healed. Don't be afraid on this, its a small thing but you don't want to get an infection from non action...

Someone Explain This To Me..
Don't fear the "JP Drain" if its used on you during your sleeve surgery. You don't even know its there and its easily pulled out before they discharge you. On the list of worries of the surgery, the JP drain should be down at the bottom. I had one, no big deal...

Question For People Who Not Insured Through Their Job.
You're not going to find specific health insurance rates online without calling into a company and giving your medical history/selecting your options first. I recommend finding one of the bigger carriers in your state, usually an Anthem or Humana because they have the biggest network of doctors. Most individual plans DO NOT COVER Sleeve surgeries. The plans that do cover it are usualy on large group plans offered through an employer. Hope that helps I'm an insurance agent...

Full Liquids...but Some Hurt!
I've been told the body can only absorb roughly 25 g of protein at a time so you may want to streatch those drinks out

I Feel Like Maybe I Should Cancel My Surgery?
Its ok to reschedule surgeries. It sounds like your support system on this is already failing. The pre-op diet is SO important to shrink down your liver prior to surgery to make the proceedure go more safely and to also see if you can mentally follow the diet after surgery. No one said you had to be in a hurry in doing all this. Just make sure you feel ready to do it and know your support is going to be there and you've made the mental commitment to follow the change in lifestyle. Once its done, there's no turning back!
