  1. Is it going to hurt? Will I be throwing up? I can sort of eat anything now, not as much as pre-band, but no restriction. I know I need a fill, but... wah! I'm nervous!!

  3. I was banded on 4/18 and I'm a mess... I really feel lousy. The food is fine. The not eating as much is fine... Even being in bandster hell is fine. Clearly it's not about the food... Cause I'm REALLY feeling down... I'm not normally depressed, haven't been in years and years. Usually I'm happy, bouncy, optimistic... But EVERYTHING is bringing me down. I've been mad at my husband, can't seem to let things go, my mind is racing with minor annoyances, I think my mother may not be talking to me (she has issues anyway) and it's sending me into a small tailspin, and I'm just all over the place. I also know that I'm used to eating to cover my feelings, to numb myself, so intellectually I get what's happening to me... What I don't get is what to do about it!! I want to curl up in a ball and have everyone just leave me alone. I mean, I expected to have some emotional responses after surgery, but I just didn't expect to be THIS upset!
  4. Thanks Jacki! I have a therapist and am seeing him tomorrow, but it doesn't help immediately. Just wondering how long this will last.
  5. For what it's worth, I got a lap band exactly one month ago today and I'm a TOTAL MESS!! No one on the lap band site is talking about this, so I came over here hoping I wasn't alone. I've been crying, yelling at my husband and kid, freaking out, and just flat out depressed!!!
  6. Oh thank you for this thread!!! I got a Lap Band on 4/18 and there are almost no posts on the lapbandtalk.com site about this topic... No one talks about feeling messed up, or depressed from this, so I came here in the hopes that I wasn't alone... I really feel lousy. The food is fine. The not eating as much is fine... What's not fine is that I'm really feeling down... I'm not normally depressed, or haven't been in years and years. Usually I'm happy, bouncy, optimistic... But EVERYTHING is bringing me down. 7. I had the left-side pain really badly the first week and a half... Couldn't even lie on that side. Felt like a major runner's cramp, just under my ribcage. It's gas. My doc showed me this big gray ball of gas on my esophogram, in exactly the area that hurt... Take a lot of gas-x, make sure you walk a lot, and just give it time. It will go away...

I really appreciate Jen75's comment on another thread about how we're used to eating to cover our feelings, so intellectually I get what's happening to me. What I don't get is what to do about it!! Has anyone else gone through this? I feel like I'm supposed to be all happy that I'm losing weight (I've gone down a pants size already) but I just feel anxious and depressed....
  9. You can also bring hard boiled eggs (add mayo for egg salad) cold-cuts, hummus, fruit, a few protein shakes, soup, cheerios...
  10. I'd ask my doc for a trial run of Prilosec... If it works, there's your diagnosis... Obviously I'm not a doctor, and I'm not advocating taking unnecessary medicine, but if this doesn't hurt you, why not try it...
  11. Definitely skip the vitamins until you feel like you've healed a little... Missing a week won't hurt you long term, but stuck when your stitches haven't healed yet... ?
  12. For me, full is a tightening or pressure behind my rib cage, but has nothing to to with my stomach...
  13. Jean, what book did you write? I'm on a mobile device using the app, so I can't look at your profile if it's there...
  14. Hi there-- we were banded the same day. I've been fine up until a few days ago, but I don't think I have any fill. Have my check up on Thurs... I will say though, that while I can get a lot more food down, I'm still eating a fraction of my pre-band self. Today's lunch was 1/2 chicken/avocado sandwich from Pret and 10oz gazpacho. Probably could have stopped before finishing the second 1/2 slice bread cause I was really full, but I don't think I should be able to eat that much...
  15. Thanks!! The veggies thing is a great idea... I'll try to focus on salads and raw veggies which I miss when tighter...
  16. why wouldn't you be able to ride them?
  17. Anyone else suddenly able to eat much more? The last two days have been very hard for me.
  18. I would love to hear from people who've done this for a while. If you know you need a fill, and you're able to eat too much, what techniques do you use? Do you stick to liquids until your fill? Try to white-knuckle it and just diet? Go a little crazy and don't feel bad about it? I'm getting my first fill on Thursday and for the last 2 days I suddenly able to eat again! Like a most of a plate almost if I let myself. I've been trying to go easy on myself, and trying to just be cool for a bit, but I would love some experience to draw on, how do I even think about this...
  19. That's a great NSV, but I want to remind you that even if you were still fat, you're STILL not that person. Fat is something we do, not something we are. You will always be you, and you'll always be awesome and have value, regardless of what shape you show the world. I also would like to offer a suggestion for your husband. Because this student is a kid, even if he's an older kid, this can be turned into a teaching moment... At some point, he could say "I know when you look at this photo all you see is a fat person, but that's because you're a teenager and don't know how to look beyond the surface. As you get older and your brain finishes growing, you'll be able to see more than just that." There's probably a way to tie this into an art lesson, about seeing beneath the surface, and trying to paint what's inside... Or whatever. But if he gets angry, he's telling the kid that he's right... And he's not. He just doesn't know.
  20. Well, I'll just post and assume you're in NY... -- Duane Reade has Breakstones Cottage Doubles (cottage cheese on one side, fruit on the other) -- Duane Reade and all delis carry Sabra 1/4c servings of hummus -- Duane Reade and all delis carry Fage Greek yogurt -- Whole Foods salad bar has mashed potatoes and often tilapia or some other soft fish
  21. Before my surgery I asked my surgeon "Is this really going to work?" He said "Well, tomorrow I'm operating on someone who lost weight and needs a smaller band now" Maybe you need a smaller band?
  22. Hey, I see you went to Dr Ren-Fielding -- I went to her husband! Are you in NYC? I have lots of advice if you are. Tell me where you live...
  23. Anyone know about scars? What I should do to make them heal best. What not to do? Mine were looking AWESOME the first few days, no redness, no swelling, but then I think I made a mistake. Day 5 or so I put some Neosporin on the one near my bra with a bandaid thinking it would heal quicker (they do on tv, after all!) but it suddenly got very red and hasn't gotten white again. :-( Did I do damage?? The stitching under my belly button is neat and white and flat, and I didn't use any Neosporin there. I want to kick myself for doing that!!! But I also wonder if it isn't just that my bra rubs it, causing it to heal slower. I know there are a lot of people in the medical field here, so I was hoping for some advice. Thanks!
