I don't come here as often anymore because like B52 said we moved on to Facebook. The reason we left is because of people preaching constantly. You must read this, you must do that, people who would go against their doctors orders and want to be coddled because they didn't do what they were supposed to do. There is still preaching going on from certain people and it gets old. They post and blog the same crap over and over again and think that it is a joy to read but it's not. Also if you don't say what people want to here then the get mad and attack you like you killed their mother. It gets old. You either want advice or you don't its that plain and simple. You can't expect someone who followed their doctors orders to the T not be upset about someone who is three days post op eating a whole pizza. I used to blog about nutrition because that is what I was doing before this year. People said they were sick of me talking about what I do and had a big rant on here for nothing because in the end she is the one that looked like an idiot. You either want information or don't. Oh let me not forget the person who said we veterans need to get back here to help the new people out we owe it to them. No I only owed myself to get well. It's people like this that make us not want to be here. We would love to help but too many people put their hands in the pot and stir it. I am 50 years old and don't need a mother or someone to get pissed off about what I blog or what I do for a living. Yes I have worked in the medical field for 30 years and I do think I know what I am talking about. I taught nutrition classes but when I gave my opinion or blogged about it I was told they were sick of me throwing my career around. Well I wasn't I was just trying to be helpful. I don't need someone to email me and say I still read your blogs and I think you are a nice woman. I know I am and I don't need anyone to confirm that. I was just trying to help those who didn't understand their nutritional needs. Shot down every time. So this is why we don't come here anymore. We stay on face book and have a blast. I stop in on occasion but try not to make this my daily habit because I don't need undue stress in my life from people I don't even know.

Definitely call your surgeon, but in the meantime try to sip Water or suck on ice chips.
Nausea can be a symptom of dehydration, and that can cause you to possibly end up in the ER for IV hydration. I didn't realize this newly post op, and ended up in the ER.
I hope you feel better fast...

Success with weight loss is dependent on getting the upper hand with your relationship with food. There is a psychology behind eating patterns which have taken WLS patients into the realm of obesity.
Though I am not a physician, I do feel that you would benefit to see a nutritionist to devise a healthier eating plan.
As a psychology professional, I can say that the other part to your equation is to reign in on your choices of food, and accept that we must adjust our beliefs about food. We must revise our thinking to "eat to live" rather than "live to eat" if we want long term success with weight loss and maintenance.
I have found it useful to use sipping Water or other no calorie drinks and distraction to keep my thoughts away from feelings of hunger. And I also use "self talk" and ask myself prior to eating anything which I know I should not have, do I really want this, or would I prefer to continue to move towards my weight loss goal?
The band is around your stomach, not your mind. You have an incredibly self empowering tool to use for weight loss...
    Best wishes....

Sojourner got a reaction from parisshel in I really like what the author of this blog has to say about weight loss/maintenance success
The article you posted has some valid insights into the the realities of weight loss and how the number of calories consumed is not the only factor involved. That is just too simplistic to be a "one size fits all" concept.
I recall my surgeon advising me that "carbs are the enemy of weight loss". I know from my own experience that if I eat unhealthy carbs, it creates a craving for more carbs. However, our brain needs carbs as it's energy source, so the key is to revise your accepted foods to include the lean Proteins and healthy carbs in accepted portion sizes. Part of the psychology behind successfully being able to do this is the need to change one's relationship with food, and to accept that the cake you may be craving is not the best choice for carbs.
That equation has allowed me to continue to move towards achieving my weight loss goals.
    An excellent article...thanks for sharing!

Stay with the love that led you to intervene with weight-loss surgery and you'll be ok.
Remember there are stages you go thru and things get better as the days pass.
The worst part for me was being on Clear liquids for 2 weeks post surgery. Those first several weeks of healing are extremely important -- so pay attention and follow your surgeon's orders. It's what will give your body a good, solid foundation for the whole rest of your journey.

Everyone is different...and I found that post op the Gas-X did nothing to help me with gas pain. What DID help me was to walk laps around the inside of my house. I was advised by my surgeon to move a number of minutes for every hour I was awake to minimize the chance of post op blood clots developing in my legs.
Good luck...and best wishes for a successful weight loss journey.

Well good for you for reconizing the problem and getting back on track ! Way to go !! Take it 1 day , one meal at a time, not the whole picture , ok ? As far as Christmas and moms cooking, just remind yourself that you will always have food in your world, there will always be chocolate in your life , and you are not going to be hungry if you eat your protien first, fruits and veggies 2nd, etc. I had my lap band 2 weeks before Christmas 2011, and just tried to focus on the family and fun, not the food ! Good luck !!

I am sorry to read of your Dx, but at least now you know what you have to,cope with, and it is doable. My Dx with Systemic Lupus was nearly 25 years in the making...and it is something you definitely can learn to live with.
There are many resources for you to learn more about this disease, and receive emotional support from others who are walking along similar paths.
I was on a Plaquenel regimen several years ago. It is a strong drug, but not everyone has vomiting. I felt very nauseaus at first, but it resolved after a week or so.
I find it helps me immensely to get my rest, and to manage stress to stay more serene. Anything is possible with the right dedication and determination.
My diagnosis does not define me, it is only something I need to be aware of and take measures to keep it in remission.

While I am not a physician, I can share my similar experiences and what I did to cope...
For some Bandsters, TOM can increase restriction for a band. And from what you are describing, the tissues around your band may be irritated and swollen.
When I got that way, I went back to my post op diet for a few days, and only had liquids and Protein Shakes. That seemed to give my pouch the rest it needed. After the days on liquids, I stayed with soft foods for a couple of days before returning to my regular foods.
And yes, the "Obamacare" regulations are wreaking havoc on many people. It is being discovered what a bad and misguided "idea" it was from day 1.

You have already been given some excellent advice by the former posters.
What I would like to add is that the weight loss journey is one both of mind and body. What I mean by that is learning and understanding what your relationship with food is. Like Jim said, self talk helps a lot.
"Head Hunger" is real, and recognizing it is essential to successful weight loss. There are differences between authentic hunger and head hunger. Recognizing these differences will help you to avoid overeating, and recognizing satiety.
Making a commitment to exercise and making it part of your day is also essential. I understand that not everyone has the block of time to go to the gym, but we all should have the ability to walk extra steps by parking further away from the building or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. Move any way that you are able...it all adds up over time.
I use self talk to keep myself mindful of everything I put in my mouth. I stay with a structured schedule for eating and making sure to drink enough Water as much as possible.
It may help you to have an appointment with a nutritionist to look at your current eating habits and identify ways to modify them to break through your plateau.
And it is also important to not compare your rate of weight loss with others. A loss is a loss. You are unique, and your weight loss journey will also be unique to you. Look at how far you have already come instead of lamenting that you are not losing as much as others.
We all take a day at a time...and remembering that you gained weight over time, and it will take time to lose the weight is essential to keep you in good emotional health.
Best wishes for a successful journey...

Honestly, I talk to myself a lot. I am always analyzing whether or not I am in need of food or if I just want it. I will admit since finding the green zone last January I have rarely had head hunger issues.
Some good questions have been asked above already. How long can you go in between meals before feeling hungry? Also, you need to remember the band will not keep you from over eating. Do you measure out your portion sizes and keep a journal to track? If not those may be good options to see where you're at. For me I no longer journal or measure. At this point it is all habit but if I start having issues I will do it just for analysis purposes.
This is a great article on the band and an easy read.

You apparently missed the point of the discussion...the government is not supposed to get into the private affairs of citizens. Sadly, our government is not longer for and by the people...
There need to be limits on how much intrusion the government can impose on private lives. A physician-patient relationship is sacred, and the only means by which adequate and quality healthcare can be delivered.
