I was diabetic with sleep apnea and overloaded knees that were going to need replacement if
I didn't take some weight off them. My doctor finally put it in words I could understand. He said
"You're going to die if you don't do something soon." I wasn't suicidal so I decided to lose some
weight. I'd lost up to 80 lbs a number of times, but seemed to put it right back on. WLS didn't
seem very manly, but then neither did dying, so here I am 50 lbs lighter and wishing I'd done
it many years ago. Everyone needs to make their own decision about this in light of their own
situation, in mine, I really wanted to see my grandchildren grow up, they're just too much fun
for me not to be here for them. I went to the hospital my PCP recommended, which was a
Center of Excellence in Beverly Hills, a horrible drive, but worth every shattered nerve. My
surgeon and the hospital were so good I never the least pain except for my incisions.
To this day, as I sit here with the shirt that didn't fit two months ago,I haven't had the slightest
reason to regret it. When guys ask "Why in the world did you do that?"
I say "Pick up a hundred pound sack and carry it around all day and
    You'll see".

Therapy can be a huge help during this process. I don't think it's unusual to "mourn" the loss of food before your surgery though. I had quite a few Last Meals before I started my pre-op diet. Funny thing is, though, being banded doesn't mean that you can't eat the same things you are eating now. It just means that you can eat less of them and feel full and totally satisfied with that smaller amount.
A big part of being successful is just deciding what you are going to do to help yourself succeed and doing it. I wrote out a pre-op plan for success before my surgery (here is a LINK to it), and it helped me a lot to keep coming back to it. Now that your surgery date is closer, why don't you try to turn your focus from food to what you will do to make the band work for you? I recommend reading up on it, checking out the blogs (and starting your own blog if you're at all inclined -- mine has been a HUGE help in keeping me on the straight & narrow more often than not), and just getting yourself mentally prepared.
I'm 3 years and 5 months post-op and have been at goal for about 2 years. I've also gone to therapy through that whole time (every other week), and that helped me a lot. If you can get your mindset committed to this process, it will be much, much easier for you, and you'll be all the more likely to be a hugely successful bandster.
I hope that helps! Sending best wishes for your success.

My surgery is March 20th too, It was rescheduled due to some projects at the office. I needed to be clear minded going into this, so I chose to have it moved. Keep you eye on the prize (as it were)....three weeks will fly!

Sorry to hear about your delay, especially since you started the pre op diet and have to start again. That was the hardest part of this whole thing for me.
Had surgery Feb 3rd and was also worried about getting something since a lot of stuff is going around this time of year. Good luck, March 20 will come fast.

oh that sucks! I thought I was going to have to post-pone mine back in January too, sound like because of the same type of illness. Fortunately, I was quite a bit through it and my doc said they'd be giving me antibiotics anyway in my IV...so he went ahead with it.
I know its gotta be discouraging. Keep the faith. You can go do this again!!!
