Dr. T and the Hartford Hospital Experience

I spoke with my nutritionist and she said it seems as though it will be some time before they are able to get a nutrional group together due to Dr. T's trying to get his Center of Excellence approved, Nina is pregnant and leaving, a new surgeon coming on, etc. They're pretty busy. If anyone at all is interested - please let me know. Otherwise, Sharona, you and I can get together with another friend of mine who had the surgery and support one another. Keep in touch!

Dr. T and the Hartford Hospital Experience

It is almost one year that I had my lap band surgery with Dr. T. I have lost almots 100 lbs. and have about 40 to go. I feel fabulous. Went from a 24 to a size 14 in what feels like overnite. However, this past September I developed ulcers and had to have all the Fluid removed from my band. It wasn't until December that I healed enough for him to start the fill process all over again. Why I mention this is because I don't rely on the lapband entirely for my weight loss. I spent a lot of time researching how the body reacts to food, the glycemic index, metabolism, etc. Fortunatley, without the assistance from the band for those three months, I gained ZERO lbs. In my opinion, the biggest problem we (lapbanders) experience is that there is little to no assistance post op, other than visits to Dr. T. When the scale doesn't move for a week or two, I feel lost. There's no books to assist lap band patients, there's no real support groups that don't include gastric bypass patients, and unless you want to pay your nutrionist $100 every time you cry on her shoulder, you're pretty much on your own.:faint: I have also shared with the office that the support groups are poor (in my opinion) in their information. I have only found a few that were worth attending. There was supposed to be a nutritional support group put together by the various nutrionists, but Nina didn't have time to support the group's organization and therefore, it went no where. Don't know how many people are interested, but I would LOVE to start a support group for those of us that experienced lap band surgery and would like to share the secrets of success, recipes, experiences, etc. If anyone is interested, please let me know. Newly Banded and very emotional

My doctor was very strict about my diet. 10 days prior to surgery, I had to go on a liquid diet with two cups of either cottage cheesse or yogurt per day. I had to drink 3 Atkins shakes per day as well. This prepared me for the increase in Protein intake and also adjusted my body to a different way of nutrition so that post op it wasn't such a shock. Of course, now, post op, I did the two weeks liquids, two weeks full liquids and now pureed food. My surgery was on 2/16. I have lost a total of 32 lbs. and feel great. I talk to my nutritionist regularly and my doctor's office is also great. We have support groups monthly. Life couldn't be better! :clap2:

Dr. T and the Hartford Hospital Experience

Dr. Tishler is a skilled physician. His office is disorganized, but he is wonderful. I had no bruising, the small incisions will leave slight scars and the pain was minimal. I do not believe Dr. T. has lost any patients. It was the best thing I've ever done. I have LOTS of abdominal and lower stomach scarring due to other surgeries and was petrified of an open procedure. If he could do the laparascopic on me, he can do it on anyone! Good luck! Penny

    Any Connecticut Bandsters Out There?

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum here. I live in Glastonbury and am scheduled to have my surgery on 2/16 with Dr. Tishler. My process to get approved took about 3.5 months. I'm on the famous liquid diet now. Doing fine. Hope everyone keeps in touch.
