I think Raven Symone may have had wls, she seems to have gotten very small pretty quickly. Not sure if she was mentioned earlier in this thread.

Wow Lissa, she sounds extremely immature also. What is it about us changing ourselves for our own betterment (is that a word?) that affects other people? Last I checked, I did this for me, not anyone else, so why do they act so ugly towards us about it, as though we did this to THEM or to piss them off.

An ex-friend of mine wanted to take a trip to Vegas. While there it waw suggested that we go to "The Heart Attack Grill" I hadn't heard of this place, but thought...ok. When we first walked in the door, we were greeted by stripper like nurses and hospital gowns. I should have left right there, but I was with my friends and didn't want to make a scene. It was then suggested that I get on the scale, because if you are over 350 lbs you eat free. It was one of the most humilating experiences of my life, and it seems that this "friend" got some benefit out of exploiting my misery. I dropped this person from my life right after we exited the restaurant....right there on Fremont Street. Life is too short to spend it with people that don't support you, people that demean you and people that just don't understand this process.
You might have to make your own family, but its the family you choose, not the family that you were born/married into. Blood isn't the only thing that makes a family. Get yourself to a support group, I found one through my surgeon's office. Go to OA. Join a book club. Anything that will get your focus off what you don't have, and bring you to those that will give you what you need and deserve.

Yeah, I wanted to be private about it as well, but as the pounds dropped, people at work were asking me how am I losing all this weight? I decided not to lie about it if they asked me, but I am not volunteering the information. Of course, there are people who know about it who I didn't tell, so word is getting around even though I told the few people who know that I am trying to keep it private.

I believe Jennifer Hudson had some type of surgical intervention as well, the way her body is shaped, it doesn't look like she's done a lot of exercise to build muscle, and she lost the weight extremely fast. I also wouldn't believe everything that the celebs or the media says, these people's careers are about selling the public a fantasy - and there's not really that many actors who gain/lose weight for specific roles.

I have had this problem too, only with my kids. My husband is out of work right now and we dont have much money. I have to get my Protein. I buy for them, not junk food so much but things they need. They are small, not young, but small for their ages. My son is 18 and he weighs 110 pounds and my daughter is 100 pounds at 14. They are really active healthy kids but small in stature. They need whole milk and things with more fat in them their doc says. I buy them whole milk and me skim milk. They drink my milk first and then theirs. I cant drink thiers. Its like they have no respect for my needs.
I can understand you feeling this way about your husband doing this. Its not that you dont want him to eat healthy, its that he is going to eat yours and then the other stuff too! Its like he doesnt care what you need, he is being selfish and just taking what he wants without considering your needs. I think this deserves a talk with him about it. Seperate your food as best you can, hard to do in the fridge, but try and sit down and talk to him about it. I talked to my daughter about drinking all my muscle milk and explained how i needed it for my health and she can drink regular milk. I will let her have one occasionally but she has to ask me for it. I cant afford to buy those for two people when she can get plenty of nutrition in other ways. She just likes the taste of it, she is not drinking it for the protien.
I hope talking to him does the trick. He is probably unaware that this bothers you and I get that its the underlying thing about him not considering your needs, only his wants for convenience, etc.

She did Weight Watchers commercials. That doesn't preclude the possibility that she had WLS.

    Hello All,
I'm wondering why African American Sleevers is just a thread instead of a subforum on its own within the Special interest support groups. There are a lot of different subjects related to our experiences, and just adding to one thread it's difficult to keep track of all the topics that are brought up here. Do we need to put in a request somewhere?

I have a similar issue. I have a "friend" who is self centered, and probably used to being the prettiest one (in her opinion) and the smaller one of us two. She has always had a little bit of a weight problem but not like mine. She used to always go on diets but not stick to them, and exercise only occasionally. Now since I've had surgery, she is really trying her best to lose weight and she is making all kinds of effort. She bragged to me about losing 15 pounds recently. Normally, I would be happy for her if I felt like she was doing it to better herself, but I know she is only doing it to compete with me, and it irks me. She told me I was her "inspiration". I was thinking, "No, you just don't want me to look better than you."

I know just how you feel. I have a very close friend. We've been friends for 40 years!! She has always been the skinny one and has watched me lose and gain weight multiple times since I've been in my 20s. It has always driven me crazy when she would say she needed to lose 8 pounds. When I would tell her that's nothing compared to 100 pounds her reply was "it's hard to lose weight whether it's 8 pounds or 100". Really? I don't think so.
Like your friend she thinks I'm making a horrible mistake by having most of my stomach removed. She asked me if I would be able to eat healthfully and sensibly after the surgery why don't I just do that now? It was really difficult to explain to someone who has always been thin.
Making a big change like this is going to cause some upheavel in relationships. I think you're right when you say that you're friend doesn't want you to be skinny and attractive. I have a feeling my friend feels the same way. She's very competitive and when it comes to appearences she has always been the "winner".
Do what's best for YOU. If she's a good friend she will come around and accept who you are now.
