  3. Dr. Yu is doing mine on June 11th....that is true about the staff, very nice, but you have to stay on top of them for follow up
  4. well I'm still in grad school working on my doctorate, so when I have the surgery in June I know what I will fill the extra time with....researching...hey maybe I will finish my degree a year early!! Hey one can hope.... Great question!! I still need to conqueor this habit of eating while studying...
  5. YES! I know right....the psychologist told me to consider starting therapy before my procedure, I'm starting to understand what she means....I think in going to look into it on Monday....
  6. Looks like a lot of us June people are teachers! How cool!
  7. I thought you had food funerals pre-op too..because I feel like I'm starting to drift into one....I'm fighting the urge to start eating crazy stuff....because I don't want to feel like I'm giving up something, but I am gaining a new life
  8. Im doing good! Had my psy consult last week and I think she gave me the green light....my surgery is scheduled for June 11 so I'm trying really hard to watch what I eat but so far I have gained 10 pounds....I need to be more strict on myself....I think everything will be okay when my students are finished testing
  9. Soon to be sleeved here...June 11th is my date...also single...
  10. I too live alone, but will be in the hospital for 2 days, after that I'm going to spend 2 days with my aunt then return home....I'm planning on stocking up the week before I have to go into the hospital and take some stuff to my aunts beforehand...after I come home my other aunt and uncle will be coming over and checking on me, so I have a supportative family...they are beginning to get excited for me...I am trying to start my pre-op diet 6 weeks early...I really dont want to lose 30 pounds before the procedure...
  11. Does anyone know of any WLS or VSG support groups in the Houston area???
  12. Yes I am scheduled with Dr. Yu....he has a great bedside manner...I like him....looking forward to my procedure
  13. Hi, can you tell us where you had your procedure done???
  14. Hi, I too am still banded....was banded in 2005, at 315...then got down to 280, now its 2012 and I'm 320....yeah, I typed it, 320....I am the same as you, no history of erosion or slippage or herina or anything.....but I eat slowly, very slowly and I will sit there and eat and eat..... When I got the lapband, my surgeon warned me that it may not work, I should consider RNY....and the RNY scared me....so I insisted on Lapband....now 7 years later, what scares me more is diabetes, high blood pressure and premature death....with that said, I made the desicion to do the VSG... I've decided to get sleeved in June of this year in hopes to finally have a tool to end this battle of the bulge.....I believe that and finding a good therapist is what I need....I have alot of issues with food that go back to childhood (been over weight since age 6, went on my first diet at age 8) One thing I have learned since having this lapband is that I am a food addict....I know, understand and accept it...now I need to work on my mindset and being healthy... I believe this surgery will work.....but you (and me) will need to put in the work...its not a magic procedure that will cure all and end all...
  15. I believe only the people who matter most should know what I am doing...anyone else I choose to tell is my choice....I work with majority women....some of them are overweight, and I have heard them make comments about other who have had surgery and was open about it....those people choose to ignore the ignorance....me, well I know me, if someone come at me or make a stupid remark about taking the easy way out, I will tell them off, friend or not... So to maintain the peace, I rather not share.....plus I'm planning on leaving there, and they will not see me in the losing phase....
  16. Seems like you are doing great!! May I ask...does the 51 pounds include any weight you lost in the pre-op phase??
  17. oh congrats!!!
  18. PEvette commented on Lyra's blog entry in Lyra's Canto
too funny! Glad you are ok!!!
  19. I cant wait to not be so paranoid about going out in public, thinking people are watching everything I do....I also can't wait to travel more....two of my cousins, both around my age, agreed to go on a fun trip with me once I make it 100 pounds lost!!! SO I'm looking forward to that!!
  20. I just had mine today....my revision is in June....He required it so he could see what my stomach looked like after 7 years with the band on it
  21. I'm still pre-op...but when I lost 120 pounds (the first time) I used leslie Sansone walk away the pounds....low impact and you can use the weights if you want to....I plan to buy the DVDs when I get closer to my surgery date....
  22. you can look for a plus size cosignment store...I know there are a couple here in Houston...
  23. Great idea...I need to make a list like this! Congrats to you!!!
  24. well said! People have asked me over and over again if I am scared about having this surgery, my response is "no, what I am scared of is developing high blood pressure, diabetes, and cardiomyopathy and dying at 55, like my mother, now that scares me" You did an awesome job expressing how most of us feel... Thank you
  25. Praying for ou...it will get better....you will be successful.... *positive thoughts*
