  1. Good Morning, Sunshines! :tongue_smilie: Make it a great day!
  2. Finished. Interesting. Not the type of book I usually read. Don't know if I'd recommend it. I think it's one of those that you have to mull on for awhile after you're done. Hmmmmm. (Wonder if that would come up "Hammy" on the spell checker! :tongue_smilie:) (Mammy... Hammy...) & with that, I bid you all a good night!
  3. Judy... I *do* remember reading about that, I just forgot it was today. Sorry that it was even more awful than you imagined it could be. What a heartbreaking situation. So sad. Yet you maintain your sense of humor... just one of the reasons I love ya! Keep breathing!!! I got the Women & Finance textbook job! How exciting! I meet w/the author on Friday... of course it's a *rush* job and she wants it back by the Friday after Thanksgiving! Ack! & I'm hosting DH's family that week! Judy, could you e-mail God for me & let him know I'll need some of His help to make all that work out? Thanks! It's a lollygagging evening... I'm going to finish reading "The Magicians" as it's due back to the library on Thursday... sip some chai tea... and breathe...
  4. I read "The Tipping Point" but yeah... I don't remember it... But he's got such great insight...
  5. But she's got her laptop... + Bob has 'puters... don't they have like 5 computers between the two of them?? Maybe she's just busy...
  6. Ok... it's posted on the recipe thread! Again... thanks to whoever was the original chef! Hi Laura! I was wondering about you w/the weather... hope it's not too bad! Coffee w/friends is the BEST! It's so important to get some "me" time (well, "you" time... you know what I mean!). FINISHED the proof. Ahhhhhhhhh (sigh of relief, not screaming, lol!). Now off to the Fed Ex drop & then I can relax the rest of the day! (If cleaning the kitchen & vacuuming is relaxing... ha ha... for me, it is!) I've been following DH's conference on Twitter today... it's pretty cool to have the real-time thoughts/insights of the attendees. It's the "Learning 2009" conference, and it's all about how we learn/lifelong learning/technology & learning/teamwork/organizational knowledge, etc... This a.m. was a session w/Capt. Sully Sullenberger (sp?)... the pilot who landed the plane in the Hudson. Yesterday the keynote speaker was Malcolm Gladwell, the author of "Blink," "The Tipping Point," and "Outliers". Looks like really interesting stuff!
  7. I don't know who originally posted this... Terri?... but it's "mmmmmmammy" good! :tongue2: I took the time to calculate the nutritional value on dailyplate.com and it amounts to 200 calories per 2 cup serving...and 22g Protein, 3g of fat and 19g carbohydrate and 4g of fiber! And what a great way to get a wide variety of veggies and micronutrients! Getting enuf veggies is always my challenge. I eat salads but need more variety. I'll post my recipe just in case anyone wants it. CROCK POT VEGGIE BEEF Soup 1.5 # lean stew meat 1 qt (32 oz) beef broth (I used Swanson's) 1 sm can organic tomato sauce 3 cloves garlic - chopped seasoned garlic salt to taste(I use Garlic Dude Dust) black pepper to taste 1 can chopped tomatoes (I use Rotel 'cause we like it spicy) 1 zucchini cut into bite size pieces 1 yellow squash cut into pieces 1 crown broccoli cut into pieces 1/3 crown cauliflower cut into pieces 1 can Green Giant niblets corn 1 small bag baby carrots 1 sweet onion, chopped I trim the stew meat of all visible fat and gristle. If I have time I brown it in oil..otherwise I just throw it in the pot. I just mix all this stuff together in a 4-5 qt. crock pot and cook on low all day (10 hours). I think you can get the same result by cooking on high for 4-5 hours.
  8. Just sent it! Here's a funny... I typed "mmmmm" in the e-mail & the spell-checker suggested "Mammy" as the correct word! It cracked me up! :tongue2: I can't say -- or think! -- that word w/out an Al Jolson accent!
  9. Pammie's playing hooky... Pammie's playing hooky! I think it is, Haydee... I know I got it from someone on here... I think it was Terri... if it's not on the recipe thread, then I can e-mail it to you... wherever it came from, I copied it into a Word doc w/other yummy-sounding recipes... Yes... in the crock pot... so *very* easy, figure-friendly, and tasty, too! Phew... Just the appendixes to go on this book & then I'll ship it out of here! :tongue2:
  10. "Michelle, I just love your avatar!!! Every time I see it, it brings a smile to my face!!" Thanks, Janie! It's fun seasonal silliness! So glad you enjoy it! The beef veggie soup was a BIG hit last night... the kids loved it... & actually gave me a standing ovation!! Now that's something you don't get every day as a Mom!! I don't know who originally posted it... but thank you!! More work work work today... I got a voice mail yesterday from a professor @ Bryn Mawr College who's looking for an editor for a textbook on women & money & I was recommended to her... will call her back today! Sounds interesting... Haydee... sorry you're so busy... don't they know you have a wedding to plan? Judy... sorry 'bout your 'puter! How was the church meeting? Janie... that is a great book title! Is the book as good? Pammie... What's on our agenda today? Make it a great day, everyone! Smooches!
  11. Time for bed... sweet dreams, Vi's! :tongue2:
  12. "Skip over it" Pam? Never! I live vicariously through you and your fun & funky So. Cal life! LOVE IT!
  13. Good Monday Morn, Vi's~~ It's a new week full of limitless opportunities and possibilities... who knows where it will take us?! Regular day on tap here today: work, house stuff, taking dd to riding... DH is still in Fla... I'm making the veggie beef Soup in the crocker today... mmm... w/homemade bread... double mmm! (Have you noticed that our lurkers are getting bolder by the day? They don't even bother to log out when they "stalk" us any more! :smile2: ) Everyone make it a good day!
  14. 4 tubes of cinnamon buns later... they're still here... still gaming! Teens are amazing! :w00t:
  15. Is it morning already? I barely feel like I slept! FIFA is the world-wide governing body of International Soccer, they run the World Cup every 4 years (& all the preliminary matches in the years inbetween). FIFA 2010 is a video game, like Madden football or NBA basketball, but w/soccer. I have half the soccer team snoring in my family room right now! LOL! I don't know what time they finally zonked out... I know I didn't fall asleep 'til much after the 1am smoke alarm that went off because of crumbs in the oven when they were making more pizzas... lovely. Then DH called & woke me up around 8am... he's all perky & rarin' to go down @ Disney & I'm groggy & 3/4 asleep and he's surprised? He was actually checking out the Times Guides to the parks and thinking about maybe going to one this trip! Usually when he goes for work he just stays @ the resort and doesn't venture into the parks. This is progress! Judy... did you see a doc about your knee? Maybe it needs to get scoped out? Or a corizone shot? I've got bacon in one oven & 2 tubes of cinnamon buns in the other... am off to make dozens of scrambled eggs! Enjoy your days! :w00t:
  16. Good Eve, Vi's~~ What a gorgeous day here today! Crisp & clear & just beautiful! Left the house @ 10am and didn't get back 'til just now... DS ref'd 4 soccer games, DD was @ the barn, & DH flew off to Fla for his conference... then DD had a quick change & it was off to pom for the playoffs! Came home to a house full of 15yo boys having an all-night "FIFA 2010" tournament in my family room (I knew this was happening, which is why I stocked up on the BOGO Freschetta pizzas, sodas, cookies, and yes, I've even put out baby carrots/cukes & dip lol!) So, basically, a busy but fun day! While hanging out @ the soccer field I got to bask in the sunlight, sip a latte, and read for enjoyment -- bliss! I'm reading "The Magicians", which so far is a strange amalgam of "Harry Potter" and "The Chronicles of Narnia" but with an edge... not sure I'm loving it, but am curious where it's going, so am sticking w/it... I'm about 1/3 through it... will let you know... Sweet, shirtless dreams! :w00t:
  17. "jumps and hip hopping"? Wow, Judy, your Zumba sounds different than mine! There is no jumping in the one I do. It's just lots of "Island" music-type dancing... rhumba, salsa, reggae... leaves me thinking we should be on a beach w/umbrella drinks by the time we're done! Interesting!
  18. I didn't know that about the coupons, either... interesting! Thanks for the tip, Janie! Judy... I just printed off some of your soup recipes... they sound so good on these chilly days! DH is leaving on Sat - Weds for a conference--@ DISNEY!--and I think the soups will be great dinners for the kids & I! Off to get ready to go pick up DD @ school & take her to the barn! Have laptop, can work anywhere! Enjoy the afternoon, everyone!
  19. Ack, Judy! :cursing: Quick -- think CRUISE!
  20. What a day you had, Pam... poor dear. I hope you make it through the meeting, & then can come home & zonk out on the couch. Laura, sorry to read about Carson's teething... do kids today still use those frozen icy teething rings? My kids loved those. In an odd way I'm happy to read that you're pb'ing -- it means your band is working! Yay! Janie, I hope Glee is back next week now that the stupid World Series is over (now if the Phillies had won, I wouldn't have called it "stupid"! It's a grey, quiet day here... all alone & loving it... working & sipping tea... Make it a great day, everyone!
  21. Wow, Pam. Intense. Lucky he has a great, caring teacher like you in his life.
  22. I've had a headache ever since I woke up this morning. I slept from 11:45am - 2pm. I woke up and it's still here! It hurts to look through my eyes, if that's a helpful description. Ow. Wah. Feel fine all other ways, so don't think it's a flu. Hmmm. I'm the same way when I have cleaning help... DH teases me because I'd clean up before she came! Ah, the good ol' days. I want a dumpster, too! I'd just chuck out everything in every closet & the basement. Nirvana!
  23. As I type this (with one hand so forgive any typos), I am simultaneously dialing and re-dialing (gotta love the re-dial button!) the phone number that opened @ 9am for folks in our county to *try* to make an appointment for a swine flu vaccine. There are only 800 doses. This is the first batch that we've gotten in. Of course, I get either a busy signal, a fast busy signal, or a "all circuits are busy" message. This is what I expected, but it's still frustrating. I'm concerned about dd, w/ her asthma... if she got it, it wouldn't be good. Remember last winter when every time she coughed, she'd throw up, too? This feels a bit like trying to win concert tickets off the radio when I was a teen!
  24. Good Morning!
  25. Phew! Just finished w/the chapter from hell! For a second time -- because the author messed up and did a re-write... but didn't use the edited file so I had to line-by-line check one file against the other and re-do all my corrections all over again! ARGH! Also... may I just say... I hate this time change! I don't like it being dark by 6pm (or earlier!). It's only 7:44pm and I feel like it's 10 & time for bed! I'm doing well w/eating today -- no sweets -- which is probably the reason for my crankypantsness above. Sorry! Here's a funny: My Sis was online @ a diet site and her DH was looking at the screen and he asks her: "Who is this 'TOM' who is making all these women fat?" She said she laughed and laughed at the visual of some dude named Tom going around the country force-feeding chubsters on diets to keep them rotund! "Who is this TOM?" ha ha ha Sweet dreams!
