My psych eval went ok, they just asked me a bunch of questions. They primarily wanted to see how I would cope with weight loss surgey and if I was ready for it. I answered honestly but wasn't severely honest on things that may teter too much information. At the end my therapist said she believed I'd do ok and would clear me. Now waiting on the approval to get surgery. I hope everything works out for you and you get cleared soon. Good Luck

With mine they have two categories that you could fall into. I fell into the BMI 50+ category. I called them when I started my journey and they assigned me a case manager and sent me a packet of everything. And from time to time I'd have phone meetings with my case manager. Ask questions, etc. Good luck with everyone's journeys

Thank you ladies! My surgeon is Dr. John Gonzales Jr at Texas Center for Medical & Surgical Weight Loss. I'm hoping to hear from the office this week . My advocate said last week on Thursday the file was sent but hadn't gotten to her yet. Starting my pre-op diet tomorrow. So nervous.

Had my last appointment Tues and they are submitting the paperwork. If UHC replies back in a timely manner I could have surgery on March 27th!!! I'm nervous yet excited. Hope I get approved. I feel like my body is giving out on me due to the excess weight I gained. I'm ready to change my life and get healthy. I do have a question about getting approved.Do I wait for them to call me or should I call after a certain amount of time?. Also anyone who has UHC how long did your approval take? Thanks!

I had the same problem. Mine was going to be $350 and I told my surgeon that was outrageous. She recommended me to a place where it was $75 instead. I'd call your doctor back and tell him you can't afford $300 and if he has other recommendations that are cheaper. If that doesn't work check out the ministries to see if they offer services for cheap.

Finally was able to get a psych evaluation scheduled and only have to pay $70 vs $350. Excited yet nervous at the same time. Only 2 more appointments left before paperwork is submitted. Any advice on what not to say during the psych eval? I just don't want to give them any reason to think I have issues and deny me based off the psych report. I've been kind of depressed lately, my weight is going up and I'm 15 pounds away from hitting 400 pound status and I'm absolutely disgusted with myself :-(. It's been really hard and my health problems have started to creep up on me again. Any words of encouragement is greatly appreciated.

You should call the bariatrics dept for UHC, I have UHC as well. They assigned me a case manager and answered all my questions about coverage and the process.They told me they go based off of the starting weight and BMI from what I recall. I have the Choice Plus plan. Give them a call, they can best help you. Good luck! The number is 1 (888) 936-7246 and it's the bariatrics center for United Healthcare.

The best way to find out would be to contact medicaid or if you attend a sleeve seminar they will check your information and let you know what's covered.

I choose the sleeve (still pre op) because I didn't want my organs rearranged with the bypass and didn't want dumping syndrome. I originally went with lapband but that was before I knew about the sleeve. So many surgeons tried to shove gastric bypass down my throat, I actually walked out of an appointment and never went back because the PA put gastric instead of lapband because it'd be better for me. Ugh! The new surgeon I'm with didnt shove anything down my throat, he educated me on my options. Told me most people go with lapband because they don't want the gastric but don't know about the sleeve which is in between the two.So... Made my decision, sleeve it is! People used to tell me gastric because I'm over 300lbs but now that I'm doing sleeve and not lapband anymore people have been much more supportive and don't mention gastric anyone.

Funny this with the insurance the most they could charge was $350 since I didn't meet my deductible yet. Yet regular rate was $225 without insurance....WTF? Ugh those people made me mad, glad I didn't give in and do it after all.

Thanks Rootman and Dom1985. I spoke with my insurance coordinator at the surgeons office and she recommended me to a place. Funny thing is the $350 place was recommended by the office, the lady was outraged that with insurance it'd cost that much! So I'm going to a $75 place. It's the LAST piece I need for my file. So I hope to get that done this month so That on my last appointment in March they will send off my file! I feel better now. Least I won't pay $350 and 2 more months will be here before you know it. Got my out of pocket quotes and ready to get this going!

I don't live in NJ so i cant recommend locally.but I can tell you I went thrOugh 4 surgeons and walked out of an appointment with one before I found the current one. What sold me is he kept it real with me. Told me his suggestions, educated me and didn't shove a procedure down my throat. I felt comfortable and at ease. Took me 3 years to get to this point. Good luck and congrats on your decision to start the process.

Ive learned to tune people out. I just say "Oh ok thank you" and move on to the next subject. People are entitled to their opinion but only you know what's best for you, you know.

Make matters worse just found out I have to do 2 more months of visits and will have to find a new surgeon so I can pay $0 out of pocket. No big deal about the surgeon just took me forever to find one I was comfortable with. Lord give me strength to hold it together and make it through. I know it'll be worth it.

Well the psych place told me with insurance it's be $350. Haven't met my deduct so that's what I pay out of pocket?

So the only thing stopping me from getting my papers submitted is the psych evaluation. Tried to get this done "last year" psych place kept stalling. New insurance kicked in. They tell me $350 please or can do payment plan but we will harbor the report from the insurance company till its paid. I'm already in a financial burden as it is trying to save for this surgery. Was in the hospital last week. That set me back.I'm at my breaking point. My health is getting worse and nothing is going right. Maybe I'm just meant to be as is till I stop kicking. This is just so depressing. Not sure if I want to keep trying. Last thing I need. :-(
