  1. Took the plunge. Gifted my self a scale for the maintenance phase of my journey. I'm no longer actively losing, so it's time for accountability.

I feel pretty confident these days that the retrograde motion of Mars, global warming trends and US politics will not directly effect my weight 😂😂😂

Congrats! Seems like I'm transitioning into that phase myself as well. Fighting it tooth and nail though, even just bought some fat burner/pre-workout supplements to see if I can shake and shimmy some more of this fat off.

Congrats on your progress, you look amazing.

  2. I've noticed that another bad behavior has crept back into my life. I've started not giving a full half hour between food and drink. Today I put the kibosh on that. It's back to waiting the appropriate amount of time. On the other hand, I've been really good about getting a minimum of 64oz of liquid in per day. Often, I am above the minimum. Post-op food lifestyle is a constant balancing act and the trick is catching things when they start to go out of balance.

I bought a 30 min "hour" glass just for this! I use my phone when I'm out... but at home, when I'm not paying attention because of the TV or whatever else is pulling my attention away, I just flip the hour glass and I'm certain. Good on you for forcing those changes to stick... THAT'S what' makes this surgery work long term. Changes.

  3. LOL! I've lost so much weight that I can feel the muscles at the base of my neck. Fat no longer covers that area. Whodathunkit!?

Crazy right! I keep being amazed / fascinated that I can feel my hips, bones, muscles etc... I'm not all that amazed or fascinated with the fact that my ass is sliding off my body now... stupid saggy ass skin...

  4. Uh oh! Something happened to Matty this week. I was in a local Wawa (think east coast convenience store) and a gorgeous girl ran smack into me while I was grabbing a grape Propel - just couldn't deal with anymore water today. She was texting and walking ... okay, yeah, this missed me as Gen X'er. Well she looked up at me and flashed me one helluva smile. I was feeling pretty good that day so it was time to bring out some game, "So you know I can't let a gorgeous girl who crashes into me go without getting her phone number." LOL! She turned beet red, asked for my phone and sent herself a text message from mine. She said, "Because you men never call ..." I don't know quite what I was thinking but figured it would be one heck of a ride. What is it with me and short girls? I seem to attract them and I don't honestly care about height. She's all of 5'4". I knew she was young but it didn't occur to me how young. What did I just get myself into?

I told myself no dating until the scale reads 190 but this new me is feeling sexually driven like I have never been before. Well, she's right I wasn't really planning on calling her so she called me. So I told her my age (41) and was shocked to hear that she generally goes for men older than 35. We must've talked on the phone close to 3 hours. You're going to think I am lying when I tell you she's a 3rd year med student and is interested in training to be a bariatric surgeon. The stars might've just aligned but I want to go slow and told her that I had weight loss surgery. She's totally my type - the professional, highly educated, and ambitious woman. That's what frightens me, because in the past, this has lead to unhealthy relationships. Well, I've got a date lined up for Saturday and I just want to have some fun. I needed money in order to make this happen so I sold a bunch of old computer equipment and managed to raise some capital for this adventure. I know I won't be drinking alcohol but that's okay.

  6. Just wondering how much did y'all lose in the first week? Today is my 7th day since my bypass surgery and I'm down 11 pounds. Now idk if that's normal because I remember that with my sleeve it took me like 3 weeks to lose 11 pounds. I mean I'll take them but just wondering what's everyone first week weight lose?

You can't compare your losses to anyone else. Everyone is going to lose at different rates, from different body parts for all sorts of reasons. So, start now, stop focusing on weight and how others are doing, it'll end up just making you frustrated or unhappy. Stick with your own targets and goals, and be sure to keep your body fat %'s in mind as well, so many people neglect to track this metric and it is really important to do so. I've been stuck at the same weight for more than a week now, but my body fat % is dropping each day, so I know I'm doing something right. Revisions lose differently than first timers, partly because we already started off with some restriction and added the malabsorption. I was down 10.5 lbs after my first 7 days post op.

  7. Had my revision gastric bypass surgery May 29th but now I'm soooooo second guessing myself not that I can go back or anything. I'm just so scared of the aftermath. 5 days out I'm really having a hard time getting my liquids in. I'm breaking my head thinking of what I can eat on my puree diet. I think maybe I'm just being to hard on myself. Just needed to vent. Any advise will help. TIA

It gets better. I was at my wits end by the end of the 1st week of purees. Just stick with it and once you start getting cleared for soft, solids and then finally raw foods, it makes the struggle that much more tolerable. *IT WILL GET BETTER*!

Did they send you home with the Incentive Spirometer? Are you using it every hour? Tip for after laparoscopic surgery is to do deep breathing exercises to help expel the gas from your abdomen. Take a long slow deep breath in, as long as you can then hold it, while holding press down into it slightly (like doing a small crunch) the object is to stretch a little and to slightly increase the pressure in your abdomen to force the gases into the bloodstream for processing. Helps out quite a bit.

  9. Stuck being forced into a 6 month medically supervised diet program.  Not happy about this.  It means that I won't get my surgery until 2018.  Upper GI coming up next week.  First dietitian visit the following week.  I just really wish I didn't have to do this stupid 6 month program.  Having the band for over 5 and a half years should be diet enough.  I'm just hoping all plays out so that I'm close to my weight when I was 20, by my 40th birthday.

NYCGAL000, since I already have the band, I'm going to stick with the same doctor that installed it to do my bypass. I'm aware of all the ways to go around and outside of the US medical system, but I just don't feel like risking it.

Chrystine, the reason I'm not fond of being forced to not only wait, but to go through 6 months of more mandatory check-ins, is because I have already had my band more than 5 years. I've been following all the recommend diet and exercise programs, so being forced to just check boxes over the next 6 months is nothing more than an inconvenience. I fully understand that people that are properly educated have higher success rates. But at this point, I'm no where near new to this process, it's been my life for coming up on 6 years now. So, I still feel like I shouldn't be held to the same requirement as someone that doesn't have an already established, medically approved diet and exercise standing. In fact, I had my first nutrition appointment already, and it went exactly as expected. "you are already doing everything we are going to tell you to" that's what I was told... yet, insurance is forcing me to waste 6 months and $240 just to meet their generic guidelines rather than actually look at my medical history and waive this requirement.
