Sistah...Sistah... thank you for coming back to revisit your original post and respond to several posts. I hope your sister responds to the stem cell therapy with stimulated tissue regeneration and can at sometime in the near future return to normal nutrition and the good times life affords us at holiday gatherings, etc. and those private moments of sipping a cup of coffee without a care in the world.
Your sister's story helps me appreciate my own uncomplicated surgical outcome more each day!!

I read story after story about people who do get complications and have ALOT of trouble getting a proper diagnosis until the patient gets into REAL trouble and it becomes life threatening. Why is this so? I would think if there is even a remote chance of having a patient experience complications, you would go above and beyond to make sure the problem is diagnosed properly and that a suitable plan of action is quickly in place.
Just today I am reading about people who can only tolerate 10-20 oz of fluids and nutrition and they are so weak, but the doctor keeps sending them home. I am just bewildered that a doctor would do such a thing.
To the OP - sorry to hear about what happened to your sister. It is a horrific experience as you described it. I hope that at some time she recovers - even if that is hoping for a miracle. Of course you feel the way you do...you nearly lost someone you love dearly!!!

Well, however it happened, your stomach needed to be repaired from the damage the band caused. The gastric sleeve is a safe option for your continued weight loss and you should not have to worry about the procedure beyond getting through the various stages of your new nutritional guidelines. I suggest you pick up a handbook for VSG patients, many are available thru Amazon.< /p>
Many of us who have had no complications now realize this is the best choice we could have made in regard to our health. I feel incredible these days and I have strength and stamina. I'm closer to goal than I have been in decades.
Of course, your husband thought he was doing what you wanted, and you know what, someday I have a feeling you will be thanking him for having your best interest at heart.

Thanks for the update Liz. My prayers will be with you and your friend. My daughter has fibro as well, I know everyday tasks can be daunting! Hopefully you will manage the babysitting like a champ! Sometimes we need to step up and that is what we do for our loved ones. I am doing some caregiving for my mother, but I work full time as well, and my mothers health is declining very quickly...it is so hard at times to work through the tough times, but don't lose focus on your own health, and I am trying to do the same, to stay in a good place while I work the rest of this weight off. I stopped losing so I have to do something to shake it up, I know it involves exercise and reducing carbs...I will get there!!

I have been here for over two years and I never ran into nasty posters most of that time. Really its been in the last year or less... it only takes a few to change the mood. This site has been so good for me, a few great people really helped me along the way with advice and support. Be who you want to meet on the site, and let the rest go. Understand that some who have been here a long time hear the same questions over and over. Please do a search before you ask. Then you can post specifics on those threads already in play. Im sure I asked the "stall" question at least once, and answered it multiple times. I know it is hell! Lots of the people who are years ahead of you have left the site. Some of them drop back in now and then to catch up, get support, and perhaps lend some insight to being further out from surgery. I really appreciate those that lend their expertise and advice from further out. The easiest part of this process is losing the first year or less... the honeymoon. Losing the last pounds, figuring out how to maintain is an even longer process for some of us. At two years, I have not gotten to my goal, but still happy to fight for it, and better off by far for the surgery. How about a one year stall? IT happens to many. Anyway, just take this time to learn about yourself and take heart with the many people here going through the same thing, some are grouchy or mean, but most are friendly and helpful. We are in for the long haul, and remember what you think is true at 3 months or 8 months may not be true at 12 or 24 months. One day at a time.

Hope you find lots of good info here. I visited Anchorage a decade ago in the summer and loved the charm of the town, went to see the glacier at Portage, went to a wedding. Gosh the food was amazing too, smoked salmon and the best lobster. I still love those foods and can still have them with my sleeve, but without all the sides and starters!! Welcome!!

Being that I'm older, actually I'll be 58 this July - this next chapter of my life includes being able to enjoy so many of the things I avoided when I was really huge. As I move toward retirement, I look forward to those long walks on the beach, heading to the YMCA for morning aqua-aerobics, traveling abroad (without the seat belt extension) riding all the rides at theme parks with my grandson and enjoying many tasty but tiny meals along the way....oh and there WILL be shopping

Dee Dee....it's been a few weeks now, I am wondering how you are doing? I am so glad that you got such supportive responses. It is hard to admit when we are struggling, but you know what, most of us struggle at times during this process. I am a slow loser, but after tracking for so long now, I see the pattern. My body holds onto the weight for awhile, then I lose 3-5 lbs overnight. I was going thru my closet this weekend and getting rid of the rest of my larger sizes and trying stuff on, I had this favorite brown jacket and it was my "small jacket" of all my jackets, I could snap it closed but barely. I thought I could get a few more wears out of it, and as I slipped it on and the jacket wrapped from side to side...the buttons under my armpits...I had that NSV my little private reminder that I am so much smaller. Lately the scale isn't moving...and I started to think that I was the same size I was before....I still have weight to lose and have my tummy fat to contend with you see....but I allowed myself to realize that I am already a success with my healthier me campaign!!! I am doing it .....and so are YOU !!

Just caught up on the Veterans posts. Enjoying the easy banter and stories about everyones culinary delights and dislikes!! I do love me some PB but not nutella, hazelnuts are not a fave of mine. Still weaning myself off holiday carbs, and getting there, albeit slowly...
Culturally, a piece of my heritage includes Mexican delights but seeing my mother opening a strange foil packet from the oven when I was a kid was a total gross out...a goat head that she declared a delicacy...especially the brain, but also the tongue and eyeballs. I ran out of the room! Over the years I've enjoyed foods that my grandmother made including nopales (cactus) with tortas de cameron (shrimp patties) in a rich red chile sauce, chile rellenos which I still enjoy post op, beautiful stews and Soups, etc.
This is the year I intend to hit goal. 2012 was an amazing year for me losing 100 pounds and I feel really proud of myself and I feel normal, not the fattest girl in the house. I enjoy getting dressed up and enjoy feeling sexy again at 57 no less! I may do plastics down the line, but for now, I'm feeling ok and look ok dressed up. Still wear Spanx for a night on the town. My face looks pretty good for an older gal and I have a neck again!!

    Amen to that BTB.....
I am trying to get myself back to losing. I didn't gain weight over the holidays, but I didn't lose any either, and I grazed, a little of this, a little of that, and so on and so on.
Got rid of snacky items that collected at my house over the holidays. I have 3 young adult children and 1 grandson, and they were all at my house for nearly two weeks, plus my girlfriend who came in from out of town for the holidays. I got a box of Sees candy from a co-worker. The kitchen was always alive with participation. Not the best recipe for a sleever like me.
Getting back on track this week. The closer I am to goal, the harder it is to lose...but I know I have to keep up my momentum.
Scold me if you think I need it. I promise not to call you both meanies.

My one cup containers are my staple! I get perfectly full with one container and that is my limit. Most mornings I fill one container with 1/2 cup of low fat cottage cheese and 1/2 cup canned pears or pineapple. Keeps me full all morning with no Snacks before lunch. They are perfect for Soup too and basic leftovers. Makes Portion Control easy and food tracking as well.

I had to take a pregnancy test just before my surgery in pre-op. I even stated that I am already in menopause, but they said it was mandatory.
Follow up with a nutritionist will be paramount for you. I have read of others who got or are pregnant post-op and still lose weight, but having a high quality diet will be so important, and of course pre-natal Vitamins, etc.
First thing is to coordinate with your doctor and nutritionist, and get your first appointment with OB/GYN so you have constant monitoring.
    Good luck.

Who woulda thought a cheeseburger post would incite a riot?
I enjoy slider size cheeseburgers at home without the bun with some sauteed mushrooms and onions., maybe some pickles on the side.
I haven't eaten any donuts, but I did enjoy a few pieces of pie over the holidays. Once in awhile I think its normal to have a little indulgence! I'm not at goal yet but I will be, I have faith in my ability to get to my goal.
