Insulin dependant bandsters
Thanks for the advice. Can't wait to start cutting back on my insulin. You seem to know alot about this. Give me some ideas about what kinds of foods you eat. Sorry it took me so long to respond but I am still learning my way around this site.

Insulin dependant bandsters
Sorry took me so long to respond. Still learning how to navigate around here. I was banded on 9-1-11. I have had 2 fills and am at 4cc in a 10 cc band. I am going again on 11-16-11 for another fill. Still not in the green zone. Hoping he will put 2 more cc in. I have lost 33 pounds so far but it is a struggle for sure. I have got to make myself excercise. I really hate to do it but I always feel better about myself afterwards. My goal is to get off insulin but I need to lose alot more weight before that happends.

Dr. Metz Wouldn't Fill My Lap Band Because I Smoke
I agree with most people on here. I would make early appt. Try not to smoke on the way there. Get your fill and light up on the way home. He won't know the difference and you'll be happier because you got your fill. Cheer up it will get better.

How many CC's are you?
I have had 2 fills and am at 4 cc. I go Nov 16th and I will getting another fill. Not sure if he will put another 2cc in or just one.

First time here...I'm Excited!!
Congrats. I was banded on 9-1-11. This is a great site. I live in a very small town with no support groups so this site is great to have. Hope all goes well for you!

Carbonated Drinks
As soon as I found out I was getting the surgery I quit drinking soda. It was my #1 addiction. Between the taste and the caffein. I thought I was going to die. I had migrain headaches for days. I was sick to my stomach but in the end it was worth it. (not sure how someone kicks illegal drugs) I am a self pay patient and spent 12,000 dollars so I would die if I screwed my band up by drinking soda.

after first fill
I have only had one fill but I had no burning at all.

Feeling Lost and Confused...
So sorry to hear this. I was banded one day after you. I am going for my second fill this Wed. I only have 2 cc in mine right now and am hoping he will put at least 2 more in. I feel like I eat less than I did before the band but still more than I should. I feel bad that your Dr.'s office isn't being supportive. I would die because I just love everyone in my Dr.'s office including the Dr. I guess I would say that you are the one who went through this surgery and you know your body and if you feel you need another fill then call before your next appt. My Dr. said that if I felt like I needed a fill before my next appt. to just call. I hope everything goes well for you and don't let them give you any crap!

stomach streaching
I heard that soda can stretch your stomach but most importantly it can erode the band and that is a big problem. I wouldn't risk drinking it.

Bulimia Issues?
If you are honest on your questionair you probably won't be considered for the surgery. They try to weed out people with eating disorders. Having a labband isn't an easy way out. You have to really change the things you eat. The band just helps how much of it you can eat. Since I got my band I have only been sick to my stomach once and I made myself not throw up cus I am so scared about band slippage. If you do go through with having the band you might just want to consider some therapy or counsiling with it. I wish you the best of luck with whatever happends.

Insulin dependant bandsters
I am an insulin dependant diabetic. I have heard that it is harder to lose weight if you are on insulin? Is anyone else having this problem? It is driving me crazy. If I feel like I let myself be hungry most of the day then I will lose but if I eat when I'm hungry no pounds lost. I go to the Dr. on Oct. 12th and I will be getting another fill which I know I need but this is really getting frusterating. Any input from anyone would be great.

Test Tests!!
The upper GI they do is looking for any stricter or cancer making sure all is well with the stomache before they do the surgery. Do you have a surgery date scheduled yet?

Week 2....Lap Band No 2
Are you feeling less sore. It gets better everyday. The last thing I could do with no pain was sneeze. When are you able to have soft food? I was lucky because my Dr. let me have soft foods 3 days after sugery and then 2 days after that I was able to eat whatever I could tolerate. I probably went slower than that just to be cautious. Take it slow and just heal for now. Best of luck to you!

Hi, I am new here and need some advice :0)
Have you had your thyroid checked. Plus sometimes what we think is not eating that much really is. I am newly banded 9-1-11 and have lost 26 lbs. You should check into it. Go to your regular Dr. and see what he or she has to say. Thats what I did and he said it was a great idea for me. Plus if you can get your insurance to pay for it then it is a long process. I was a self pay patient so it went fast for me but my sisters insurance paid for hers and she had a long wait. Anyway, something to think about. Good luck to you in whatever you decide.

Sept 6th
Hi guys. I was banded on 9-1 so about a week before you guys but am new to the site and don't have any support groups near me so I need some online friends that know what I'm going through. I was a self pay patient too and my cost was 12,000. It hasn't been easy. I have had my first fill and the Dr. put 2 cc in. I am going back on 10-12 and I will be gettin another fill because I don't feel alot of restriction. I really want to be able to get full off of that half cup to a cup portion. I am wishing you all good luck. Friend request me if you want.

before 1st fill Told doc I was full w/1 cu but its really 2cu
I would really be honest only because you don't want to be too full or too empty on the fills. I am going back in 2 weeks for my second fill and I think I am almost where I need to be. I get full at about a cup and a half but would love to be @ the half cup mark. We'll see. 7 cc's is alot to put in at once. I only got 2 cc the first fill and I think he might put one or two more in this time. Just be super honest the next time you go.

Foods you cannot eat
Wow I have a flour tortilla wrap all the time and have had no problem. I will make a pizza with one if I am craving pizza because I can control the sauce and cheese. I have stayed clear of bread though.
-
Im scared
I had my sugery 9-1-11 and lost a little then nothing. I got my first fill 9-21 and really haven't noticed a big difference. I go back to the Dr. on 10-12 and I am pretty sure I will be getting another fill. Because I can eat more than I should be able to.

Is It Normal?
I had no shoulder pain and no gas pains either, just incision pain. My sister had the shoulder pain bad. She said it hurt worse than the surgery pain. I was sore the first week and honestly didn't weigh myself so I don't know about any weight loss. The second week I felt really good though and able to do more. Don't worry it will come off soon.

I SURVIVED MY FIRST FILL!! (SO FAR)
How many cc's did he put in? My Dr. puts numbing medicine in first which stings like a mother. I didn't feel that instant fullness which is why I'm asking how much fluid he put in.My Dr. put 2 cc's in. I am giving it two weeks and if I need it I'm going back for another fill. All my fills are free for the first 90 days then it's $150 a pop which isn't bad considering my sisters Dr. charges $300 a fill. I also didn't feel like the water went down any slower. My son and I have been hiking on the weekends and I find it to be a better work out than just walking the nieghborhood and more interesting, waterfalls and such.Good luck to you!

September Bandsters
Are you on all liquids. I am so lucky because my Dr. had me on soft foods 3 days postop and solids 5 days postop. I can drink 2 of the lemonaid and unflavored protein powder. But my Dr.wants me to get my protein intake through regular food. I drink one a day to help with my daily protein intake. Anyone that says weight loss surgery is the easy way out needs to be smacked upside the head.

Try some sweetener and vanilla. My Mom maded it with sugar and vanilla when we were kids. What kind of shake are you drinking. I HATE the ones mixed with milk. My fav is unflavored powder and the crystal light pur lemonaid.

4 days post op
I had to be on 3 shakes a day and one small meal the first week before surgery and then just 4 shakes the next week. I was eating soft food 3 days after my surgery and regular food 5 days postop. My sisters Dr. was different. She only had to be on clear liquids the day before the day of and one day after surgery but was a month before she could eat solid food after her sugery. Every Dr. is different. None of the things you mentioned happened to me so I would just keep in touch with your Dr. Hope you feel better real soon.
