Hi everybody, I am doing well. I had the surgery Monday and came home Tuesday! It went so well that when I woke up and was back in my room, I asked my husband if he was sure I had been sleeved because my pain never got above 3.They did not need to use anything more than tylenol. My surgery took a little longer because two hiatal hernias the size of fists were sitting outside the stomach on my diaphragm which was why I sometimes had shortness of breath on changing positions. Nobody had found that thru all the testing! So I got a two fer!!! Biggest problem now is the gas under the rib cage slowly being absorbed. So I am uncomfortable with that, but not really in pain. The only scarry part was that I gained 4.5 lbs in the hospital on fluids only and I didn't know that would happen. With all the fluids pumped in your body can't rid itself of the extra in the beginning. Biggest challenge is getting all the fluids in to stay hydrated. I wish everyone well and so appreciate all of the help I have received on this site.

My point is United Health Care, who also handles our united health managed plan does cover it if you are under 65!!! Many other major insurance compnies have come on board and are covering it for those under 65. Thus, age discrimination. I wish you luck. Post back after you get it and maybe it would be worth switching over to Kaiser. to those who are trying to wait it out. I would sooo love to be wrong!

I don't know what state you are in, but here in FL if, Christ came down himself to ask, the answer would still be NO. My husband talked to the chief claims manager and he said at this time even though we have aarp united health managed medicare, no one under medicare will have it covered because there is not enough long term data. I had my surgery Monday and we have started the appeal. He also said that if you were UNDER 65 some insurance companies would be able to sell you a separate policy to cover it. Once you are on Medicare no one is able to cover you thru medicare. If you are still working you could probably get it covered under the company policy. Not trying to scare you, but I would get the info they told you put in writing so you won't be in for a major surprise. If you get something in writing from medicare stating it is covered I would really appreciate it if you could share it. Thanks for responding, Monty

Hi everyone. I just got sleeved Monday and I am discouraged. I know I am only two days out but I got on the scale to start my journal for after surgery and I gained 4.5 lbs in one day on nothing but fluids! I sure could never lose that fast! Then other problem is I feel hungry. Is that "normal" amd did anyone else have that and get down (grieve over the loss of food)? I knew this was coming. I did well ( didn't feel hunger) and lost 21 lbs before surgery, which was hard due to Mr Ghrelin hanging out in the stomach. I think now he has taken up permanent residence in the 15% that is left and he is on a rampage. At home I am now allowed protein shakes, yogurt, and pureed fruit, along with liquids from before. But head and sleeve hunger is there. I Would appreciate any of your help. Thanks, Monty

Unfortunately we are being discriminated against!!! (age) You can find a letter my husband and I wrote to the surgeon general and also medicare sent registered mail on a past post. Surgeon Gen passed it on to someone probably the circular file. My husband found out that you have to go thru 7 appeals (6 denials). What a beurocracy!! I was sleeved Monday because I just couldn't wait any longer and will appeal that way. Leters etc. Thank God for e-mails. If you hear anything please let me know. The more people we have behind this the better chance to be heard. Power to the people!!!

Hi, would love to know how you are getting it approved. I had my surgery Mon. I was aproved by my United Health care manged Medicare<BR style="RIGHT: auto" id=yui_3_2_0_16_131780830759345>for the by-pass. However after reading several books and researching on the net, I decided to get the sleeve. My managed care plan refused to cover it on the basis that they only cover what Medicare covers, even though there is a code for it. Better get it in writing as you wil see a people got rejected at the last minute. I am on your side and if you get it in writing I would love to hear back from you. Good luck

Just checked Oct list. I was on for 10-3. Had surgery yesterday and just got home. It was listed under MONTY but I don't see it now Don't know if you stil want that info. Thanks, MONTY

My surgery is Monday and I am trying to get everything together. Has anyone on here come up with a means to track the water, protein, vitamins and other nutrional items, like a spread sheet or tally or journal. I would apreciate your suggestions as I would like to get it together before I come home zoned out!
