  1. Hi. I'm doing ok 1 week post surgery but have a rotten taste in my mouth as if I'm not brushing my teeth or using mouth wash. Used to do it 2x a day but now feel like I need to do it every hour. Anyone have any clues???
  2. I'm 8 days out now and plan to start land based workouts in two weeks. I still do not understand about not chugging Water. Will someone PLEASE explain it so it makes sense to me not to drink when I'm thirsty? Will drinking more than a 'sip' (and I may actually throttle the next person who says that word to me) damage the sleeve? I mostly can swallow larger than a sip without pain or reflux. So does that mean somethings wrong with my sleeve? Thanks
  3. Thanks, Monty. Am worried that my bubble maniac game will run out of bubbles before the wait is over. Grin
  4. Today, Monday, is my day, too. Pleased to share it with you. Had a horrendous trip to the hospital...lost control of my bowels and just couldn't continue riding in car. Until we found a store with a public rest room.... Now in hotel. Surgery at 11 45 but check in at 10 45. Playing games on my android to pass the time. Good luck to you. Let's share when done!
  5. Maybe you need to contact the hospital and ask them to reimburse you for the hernia repair. Or maybe the hosp billed insurance for the hernia repair only? You have the answers. Think it thru before getting riled up and jumping to unnec. Conclusions.
  6. Thank you, Betty! My friend and I are staying in the hotel across from the hospital the night before the surgery and we'll be good to go in the morning without a 45 minute drive. Ahhh, this is a nice turn of events. The rest (please gd) should be smooth sailing.
  7. Just got the news....new belly on 12/5. Any words of wisdom?
  8. Update: somehow after howling, ranting raving pleading on my part with anthem, the hospital team got them to approve my surgery for vsg 12/5 Medicare could still approve this in december or january but there was no guarantee. And I didn't want to give up aanymore of my life than I already had...so I said ok, I will pay upfront.....and then the hosp contacted me to say that anthem approved it. Holy cow.
  9. I use a personal trainer 2x a week once on land and once in pool. When not with her I work on treadmill alone (up to 11 minutes) and lap swims (up to six now). Still waiting on my sleeve but doc told trainer I could start exercising 2 days after my surgery!
  10. Thanks, trip. I've got boarding secured for doggie. My friend will drive me to the hosp and bring me home. My neice will stay with me a few days. I'm pretty sure if. Don't change mylife now, I will not have another chance again. I am just fearful that I might not like the surgeon's answers to my questions. I already know he will not do hernia repair. I am so worried that I am guaranteed to have severe reflux because of that. But what will I say to the surgeon?
  11. Meli, Your words are the most helpful. Thanks.
  12. I"m worried about boundaries after weight loss
  13. Been reading the board like a religion and it seems everybody stalls somewhere and then losing starts again. Noone reports HOW that happens. I've lost a few lbs since july when I started looking for this surgery. I was 320 and now 311 but the last 6 lbs fell off these past 2 weeks. Been fooling with the south b*tch diet and a few proteon shakes but still basically eating as usual. Shrug. Mayb e its the exercise? Who wants to give in and adm8it that????? Suspect it'll happen for you, too just you haved to go thru the agony like everyone else, I guess! Its a big cosmic joke
  14. Hi. I work out with a personal trainer. If anything hurts, she finds another way for me to exercise the same group of muscles but without the pain. I don't know if this will help you but...just an idea.
  15. Chickadee You lost almost 100# since May???? Holy cow, woman! Stick a feather in your hair and do a happy dance! Wow! Bowing in awe! What an accomplshment. I hope I have similar losing luck. Wow. Ande thanks for the words of encouragement. You got NO IDEA how much it means
  16. Were u pleased and are you happy with your choice now? That's most important
  17. Yesterday, I freaked out and decided not to have surgery in the morning but in the afternoon, id changed my mind again! I suspect I'll be up and down like this for the next 2 weeks. However, I asked my personal trainer if she would add a 3d day for us to meet until the surgery and she agreed so I have that to look forward to on Friday and perhaps it won't be so terrible. I greatly admire anyone who is going thru this completely alone. My friend had agreed to go to MX with me if I went there. But I'm gonna be in new haven not too far from home and still clutching at hher willing hand. I wonder what would be a suitable gift for this woman? Any suggestions are very welcome! So, that's where I am. Right now, calm...but in 5 minutes, I might read or see something another person experienced as a negative and freak out. Plus the stupid ball game is on tv and I can't zone out to House! If the yankees don't play, there ought not be a series on tv!
  18. Hi folks, I'm going to be sleeved, please God, on 11/7 by dr. Andrew Duffy of Yale New Haven Hospital. I'm in the hartford area but opted for this group. What are your dates?
  19. Dr Pleatman posted a. Link to a webiste where folks can petition cms to cover vertical sleeve gastectomy over in the insurance part of the forum. Could someone make that a sticky until the end of the month when solicitations are no longer accepted and perhaps post a lead to it on the main forum? Thanks
  20. I added my comment. I said that vsg provides the most choices for leading a normal life afterwards and that private companies are sponsoring the procedure...why should senior citizens be denied access to the most desireable procedure. I also pointed out the enormous amount of positive annecdotal information available on various listervs and said there's gotta be a kernel of truth here Basically, I told them to google it but I did thank them for considering my comments. The govt loves to be thanked...maybe that'll help. Thanks for providing the link
