October Bandsters!!!
Hello all. I am now three days post as I had my banding on Monday. After all I read before the procedure, good stories and bad, what to expect, etc. I can say I feel better than I deserve. No pain, no gas and wounds healing well. Swelling is going down and already lost three pounds. NOT hungry. Following doctor instructions to a T and doing my liquids. I was shocked that my doctor said he found a big hernia and fixed it for me. That apparently has been the cause of my severe heartburn and episodes of nausea. I actually feel great. I can even breathe through my nose which was done with the aid of nasal sprays. Go figure. Not sure what the connection is but mine is not to question. Oh and no gas pain. I had a little twinge in my shoulder, took gas x with milanta chewable and it went away. I know I should enjoy my time off but I am bored stiff. I hope this gives all upcoming bandsters a positive view of what to expect. I felt better reading positive stories than bad experience stories. I think they are a small percentage of people who had this done. It's working! Good luck to all.

I got banded today and I have to say I feel better than I deserve! My doctor , dr choi and the staff were great. My only anxiety was praying my blood pressre was good because tha. Is what canceled my procedure on Sept 2. Waking up was a little tough and edge of nausea. But once I got home in my bed I was rather good. My pain Is about a 4 but is tolerable. Would rather not take pain meeds cause it will make me nauseas. End of note it was a good experience and I was given a lot of encouragement that this was a good thing I did and I will be very successful. So will you. Sleep well and stay in touch.- October Bandsters!!!
- Surgery in 12 hours!
Me too! Been on clear liquids all day. Even walked the treadmill for 20 minutes today. Ready to go. Will check back tomorrow evening.- October Bandsters!!!
Ok. One more day. Banding on Monday. I got a call today from doctor. Said my blood work came back with Hugh white cow t so he put me on antibiotic from today through Monday. Don't feel sick but obviously something is going on great way to stop a cold if one is coming on and I certainly don't want to be sick while recouping. My blood pressure today was excellent so I am ready to go. Watched a real life video of the lap bad surgery. Cool p at least I know what to expect even if I'm under anesthesia.- October Bandsters!!!
Hello October people. Ibwas originally scheduled for September 2. Did my 10 day pre op diet and deposed 8 pounds. Got to surgery cent, paper gowned, I've and ready to go. I was psyched and excited. Big problem. My blood ores sure was way too high. 187/110. The nurse thought I was gonna have a stroke. I had not had a bloodnpressure problem before. And I was calm. They gave me a beta blocker and then a Valium. It came down some but not enough for my doctor to feel safe about proceeding with the surgery. After all, I am an attorney and he didn't want to have to answer to something going wrong. Smart move. But I was pissed off and frustrated the whole weekend. But I didn let it get me down and start eating bad. I immediately went to my PCP and he put me on a blood pressure cocktail with a dietetic. Well three weeks later I had had perfect blood pressure and my pcp gave me clearance for surgery. I am scheduled for monday October 3. I started back on liquids and have dropped a total of 14 pounds. I went for blood work today and my doctor was very pleased with my efforts. He even told me I could cheat for dinner tonight. I told him thanks but I was committed. He was pleased to here that. He said I will be very successful with my weight loss. I can't believe I am here. I was very sad and a bit frightened. I never thought of blood pressure being a complication. My pcp says I loose another 15 or 20 pounds and I will be off the meds. This is exactly why I made the decision to do this. I knew I was on a collission course with health issues. I explore all kinds of soups and have great kitchen appliances to help with smoothies and protein shakes and purée soups. I've gotten quite experimental and keep it healthy. Fat free and high protein. You just have to learn to compromise. It's our life. I am doing this for me and for my future. We didn't choose to be fat. But we can choose to get healthy. As mother always says "it hurts to be beautiful.". Never give up!- High blood pressure canceled my banding
Well. Today was my day to be banded. I had been on my prep liquids since august 24 and lost 8 pounds. I was committed and excited. Not nervous at all. My mom went with me. Checked in the surgery center at 9 am. They took me back. Funny thing that I had to do pregnancy test first. Thatbwould have been an eye opener. Then stripped, paper gown, pressure stockings on and hair in cap. They started the iv and then did the first blood pressure check. OMG! 187/110. They kept telling me to calm down and that I was just nervous. I was fine. I felt great. No discomfort or anything unusual. But they were fearing out over my bp. My doctor then gave me a beta blocker to bring down the bp and told me to relax. The juries kept telling me to think of the beAch. I guess they think thatnis relaxing and soothing. It came down a little. Then gave me 5mg Valium. It came down to 151/96. Then comes my doctor with a look on his face and said "I am going to cancel your case today, it just is not safe with the blood pressure issue. Funny thing is I don't have high blood pressure. I was just thereon Tuesday and it was 130/80 and he saw that. But better to be safe then sorry and risk having a stroke under general anesthesia. Dr Choi my doctor was great and so was the staff. He said to go see my pcp and get on some meds and he would reschedule in a week or two. Bummer I had tondo some major schedule maneuvering to do this. But I want it bad enough I will make it happen. He was funny though. Knowing that i am a trial attorney he didn't want to take any chances and played out a scenario of how he would have to answer to a claim Of malpractice should anything have happened to me. Of all the things I have read on this forum and others I never thought that I had a bp problem or that would be a reason for complication. Luckily I am self pay so I don't have to jump through any insurance hoops to address this issue. Damn I was so psyched and ready to embark on my new life. I stocked upnon some great protein drinks I have found and are really tasty. Mr dot or told me to stick to drinks or breakfast and lunch and a sensible dinner during the time to my next scheduled surgery. So now you all know what could happen that could put a stop to your journey. I hate the idea that I will have to take medication now but this is the very reason why I was doing the band. To prevent the inevitable. I don't have a huge amount of weight to lose and I didn't have ay obese related health issues. But l live a stressful life/career (I'm a foreclosure defense attorney) and I knew I was headed for disaster unless I did something drastic. And everyone I spoke with whonhas done it or knew someone said it was the best thing I could do for myself. I guess next time I won't go to court the day before my procedure! Good luck to the rest of you. I will keep you posted.- September Bandsters

Good luck- Today is the day!
So.........?- NO Pre-OP Diet
I am confused. This is the first time I have read so many people that were told a pre op diet was not necessary. Besides getting ready for surgery it is suppose to get you ready for post op and learning how to adjust to liquids after surgery. I'm on dayb5 of pre op. Surgery is on sept 2. I have read that then purpose of pre op diet is to help get your body ready and for a safe outcome.- September Bandsters
Well I just had a big test of will power. Celebrated my parents' 51st anniversary. And I shopped and cooked and presented them with a beautiful gormet meal with my brother and my son. And I had my organic cuban black bean soup 10grams of protein liquified with sodium free beef broth. I've figured out how to be creative and still satisfied. I know I will be eating like this after banding. Whole foods is a good place to find legal stuff. We even brought out the top of their cake from last year's 50th celebration. It looked and smelled great but I was good. I got to be the chef and enjoyed prepping and watching them eat. I set my place at the table with good china and spoon. I also broke down and told a few friends what i am doing and they are thrilled. Day 5 pre op diet and doing well. Even got my monthly bill and althoug have the typical bloating I don't feel it. Lots of water and bathroom visits. Counting down 5 days to go.- September Bandsters
Ok. Have pretty nails and feet and bye bye grey roots. Now I am a lost ready for friday. Went to a party tonight. A Cuban party. I had soup before I went there so I wouldn't be hungry. Paella, maduros snacks and cake. I had a cup of water, danced a little(at least I got some exercise in) and left. I was prod of myself. I broke down and told afewpeop,e what I was doing and I got nothing but positive response and support. I am really psyched for this. Even got into a pair of calvin jeans tonight because of the pre op diet and pounds lost. So much to look forward to. - October Bandsters!!!
